Prompt 2—Creative Character Analysis
Analyze one of the following characters:

1. Emilia from Emilia’s Lament

2. Hamlet from the play, Hamlet

1. Create a cartoon (with three or more strips), poem,
sonnet, skit/ re-enactment scene, or news report showing what you’ve learned
about one of the characters. This is a creative assignment.

2. You also need to write a brief paragraph analysis: Submit
a paragraph summary explaining your work and the traits you are trying to show
in the creative work you made. Does this character represent the complexities
of being human? Briefly explain how he or she reflects the complexities of
being human in your paragraph.

Whichever format you choose, ensure that your work is
accompanied by appropriately documented sources within text, and in a reference
list.

If choosing to do a
cartoon representation of the character, ensure that you use a software
program—hand-drawings will not be accepted, and you should have at least three
strips with callouts. Here are a list of free software programs you may use—MS
Word, Power Point, Powtoon, Animaker, Toony Tools (https://www.toonytool.com/),
etc.
If choosing to do poem or sonnet, ensure you use poetic
elements such as figurative language and other techniques to represent the
traits of the character; for example, your poem could be an ode to that
character; it could also be written in the voice of that character.
If doing a skit or re-enactment scene, ensure you include
dialogue that includes words that your character would say or dialogue that
represents the character’s feelings and other traits of the character.
If creating a news report, you could add elements such as
interview questions, and other news feature elements.

After reading Chapters 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6
in the Blocher Text, the student will select 2 techniques/concepts of interest.
Submit a thread of at least 500 words examining the relationship between the
selected techniques/concepts and strategic allocation of financial resources.

Then
use the Bible, Keller text, and other sources to provide biblical application
of the concepts.

Support your thread by citing at least 3 peer-reviewed journal
articles. Your thread must be in current APA format and must include a
reference list.

This essay should include quotes, paraphrases, and summaries taken from the primary texts we have read in class and any other relevant primary works, include at least four secondary sources (at least two of which must come from the RSCC library databases). Be sure to properly cite any sources that you do include in your essay in MLA citation format including a Works Cited page.

The grade of your essay will be determined based on how well you respond to the topic and provide support for your argument. Your topic should be well supported by a good understanding of the texts discussed and effective references/quotes from those texts and secondary source(s). You should also proofread your essay and adhere to college-level English standards and conventions. These standards and conventions should include, but are not limited to: an interesting vocabulary, powerful style, and appropriate voice and tone.

As always, you should assume that your audience has already read the work, so avoid plot summary. Keep your paper focused on analyzing the works. Make arguments for your particular analysis and then support them in the individual paragraphs. Any plot points should merely be made in supporting your arguments of analysis.

Compare any two or writers working in similar themes or genres. Be sure to focus your analysis on one or two particular points of comparison, such as values, beliefs, rhetorical strategies, character, plot, symbolism, etc.

Try to dissect the movie, see what its underlying message was. Think, for example, the following questions: How does the movie you review fit to the theme we were studying? What does it tell about the topic? What were the underlying points the makers of the movie tried to convey about, for example, globalization, poverty, terrorism, society, modernity, and other topics it covered? Avoid simple “I liked/did not like it” – reviews. Push your analysis to an intellectually rigorous and challenging direction.

Prepare two short documents, a memo and a letter, addressing the same topic. You will imagine a workplace scenario within your chosen field or major. (ENGLISH/COMMUNICATIONS/JOURNALISM. This could be a medical office, a school, an engineering firm, the IT department in a corporation, a public health agency, or any other setting in your field. You have been been given a task, and must report on it in-house, or within the workplace, via a memo, and to outside stakeholders via a letter. This task could be addressing a problem or complaint, doing some needed research, forming a taskforce or committee. Use your creativity and your knowledge or research into the field to identify this task, which will be your topic. Your audience and purpose will be different for the memo and the letter. Therefore you need to understand the uses of these genres, the expectations and conventions of each, and the required format and content.

The memo:
A memo is used for communications within a business or organization, so the writer and the audience either knows each other or knows of the other and has common knowledge and interest in the workplace. The tone may be more or less formal depending on who the writer and audience are. The purpose will be to notify those who need the information of your task, the problem or need or research, and the outcome you have reached. Your memo may require a summary of the problem or need, a presentation of research or information, and a recommendation for solutions. These would be set apart in sections with headings for ease of access for the reader. The need for explanation and detail will be different from that need in a letter to someone outside the organization. Assess that need. You are expected to use appropriate memo format, tone, and content, demonstrate understanding of this rhetorical situation, and effectively write a professional communication.

The letter:
A letter is the genre used by businesses, professionals, organizations or other entities to communicate with those outside their own workplace. Determine who your task will affect outside of those within your company or organization. Who would you logically need to communicate this information or solution with? Would it be a stakeholder or customer or client? What explanation and details would they need, and how would their understanding and response differ from those you addressed in your memo? Consider your audience and your purpose for this letter—is it to inform, to persuade or motivate, to appease, to sell? Determine how you will adapt the content accordingly for your letter,
You are expected to use appropriate business letter format, tone, and content, demonstrate understanding of this rhetorical situation, and effectively write a professional communication.

Revision, Documentation and Submission
Once you’ve drafted your memo and letter, revise carefully for content, and then for clarity, mechanics and style, as well as the appropriate format for each genre. Even though you might submit a references page with these communications, for this class you should cite sources and include a References or Works Cited page for any research you used as support for your content. Use your discipline’s documentation style (e.g. MLA; APA; Chicago) to attribute information and expression of ideas to your sources. Include as the last page of your submitted paper a “Works Cited,” “References,” or “Bibliography” page, according to the conventions of the style.

The prompt is How can we distinguish between good and bad interpretations? Discuss with reference to the arts and one other area of knowledge. You need to find an example for natural science. I’d prefer if you used natural disasters such as volcanoes, tornadoes, earthquakes. The purpose of the capstone project is to provide the student with a culminating experience where s/he applies the knowledge and skills learned in their program of study to conduct independent work (under the supervision of the student’s Capstone Advisor) on a project related to a specific issue. The capstone project allows undergraduate students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their courses to the work environment. This project is completely individualized. Students are encouraged to select work-related projects that are of particular interest to them and that will result in professional growth. Students should address an issue and apply analytical research to address the issue.
Guidelines:
Your paper should be 15-20 pages in length and have a minimum of 15 citations from scholarly and academic sources (10 scholarly/5 academic). Follow the guidelines for APA 7 writing style. The sections should be clearly marked with headings, so your instructor knows which points you are addressing. The title page and references page do not count towards the minimum word amount for this assignment.
