Does the paper show a good a grasp of the relevant thinkers and issues?

“An overall trend in American history has been the increasing dominance of national over local politics. This is a good thing for our society. It is more efficient, more democratic, and better suited to a country as large and diverse as modern America.”
Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why or why not?

Discuss in relation to two of the following topics, discussing one topic from group (a) and one topic from group (b):
Political Parties; Interest Groups; Civil Rights; and Public Opinion/Voting
Race and American Politics; American Political Culture and National Identity; Identity, Gender and Cultural Diversity; Political Polarization and the Media; and Economic Inequality/The Culture Wars
Please note, that while you should focus on two main topics, you should feel free to incorporate material from other topics where it is relevant to your argument.

Approved Thesis: (this thesis was approved by the professor and you can write about this if u want)

Increasing dominance of national over local politics is bad for our society because many times issues at a local level are not present at the national level and is harmful for society because it distracts public opinion to national issues that may not be present at the local level which is also bad for equality of races as a lot of funding for defunding the police for example is more of a local issue but people were lobbying at the national level and not enough on a local level.

This is a college level US Government class

In terms of content, the most important thing is to answer all aspects of the prompt clearly, accurately, and concisely. Please make sure you address the particular question asked, rather than the one you wish you were asked, or simply telling me about the material in general. These papers are short, however, so you won’t be able to give a comprehensive answer to the question. Instead you need to pick out what you think they key points are and then give an answer. Remember, there is no single “right” answer to the question, and there is certainly no way you will be able to say everything that you think is relevant (although it is possible to give a “wrong” answer if you significantly misunderstand the material). What I’m looking for here is an engagement with the key ideas we have covered, and evidence you have thought about how they might be useful for understanding contemporary US politics.

The grade will be broken down as follows:
Presentation (15%): Is the paper free of typos, grammatical mistakes etc? Does it fulfill the technical requirements re formatting, word limit etc?
Clarity and Organization (20%): Is the paper concise? Is it precise in its use of language? Is there an identifiable structure to the paper which helps orient the reader? Is the writing clear and effective at communicating the key ideas? Are the transitions between ideas and paragraphs smooth? Are there any particularly elegant pieces of writing?
Summary/Description (25%): Does the paper show a good a grasp of the relevant thinkers and issues? Does it summarize the relevant material accurately? Are there any major misunderstandings or omissions?
Analysis/Argument (40%): Does the paper answer the prompt directly? Is there a clear overall argument which is supported by reference to the course material? Are there any interesting interpretations of the thinkers/topics we have covered? Does it contain insightful critiques or raise interesting examples? Are there any original ideas that go beyond the source material?

Provide an example from your own experience of how these frames can inform one another and benefit from an ability to “see” both at work in the system.

Systems and Frames
Students often equate the structural frame with red tape and bureaucracy and see the human resource frame as soft and simply concerned with how people feel. Sometimes the important understanding that participate (people-focused) structures are also possible outcomes of rational thinking and organizational design efforts, my get missed. Consider the ways in which the two frames are potentially complementary, not necessarily inconsistent or adversarial.
Provide an example from your own experience of how these frames can inform one another and benefit from an ability to “see” both at work in the system. What does holding both frames reveal about the system or change effort that otherwise might be missed? Some of the chapter case studies can assist you in brainstorming an example.
