Whether we realize or not, popular culture is a pervasive influence in all our lives. It is the source of entertainment, controversy, and even academic study. In this paper you will evaluate and analyze a text from popular culture; you may choose a text that addresses a topic related to our Preface text, but you are not required to do so. You will begin by selecting one television series, film, popular song, video game, music video, comic book… on which to focus. Your goal is to analyze the language, structure and craft of the text, to make a claim and draw connections between the style and the author’s purpose. Research
For your research, you may start with the resources for English 101 students. You may also want to search the websites of major publications such as the New York Times or Entertainment Weekly. You could research what others have had to say about your chosen text, or you could research what experts have had to say about what is  portrayed in your text.
Audience
This essay should be directed to actual and implied audiences: both your fellow students and professor as well as an imagined audience to whom your chosen pop culture text might appeal. For example, you might choose a movie to analyze. In that case, your paper might be geared toward others who have seen that movie. You might choose a song or album by a particular musician. In that case, your readers would be fans of that musician. Make your essay meaningful and appealing to others.

Overview
This assignment asks you to select, engage critically, and analyze a text from the world of popular culture. The goal of this assignment is to encourage you to think critically about the text, conduct a small amount of relevant research pertaining to the creator’s (or creators’) background, genre-specific context, style, or content, and to write a cohesive paper synthesizing your research with your own interpretation. Your paper must:
• identify the text and its creator(s), and discuss its social context/situation;
• contain a clear thesis, or claim regarding the text: make a specific argument about how the text reflects society and why it is so popular.;
• summarize the text(s) and incorporate evidence in the form of quotes and paraphrasing
• develop the analytical argument offered in your thesis, including careful evidence from the primary text and from secondary sources; and
• cite your research appropriately according to MLA format.

What are the Primary Source Analysis of Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.: Include your proper title page,
add to your thesis—include important or key ideas and arguments that you will
address based on the primary sources you are using from Sources of the Making of the West or another approved primary
source so that you have a basic introduction (with your main arguments and ideas),
an outline of the body (a small paragraph or “bullet points” of key ideas and
arguments with a one sentence description of each main point), and a possible

primary and secondary sources in a properly cited format (in-text or parenthetical

bibliography as necessary. The outline
should be 2-3 pages in length.

more refined conclusion. You should spend time proofreading and editing before
you submit so that the paper is in a polished form (relatively free of grammatical
and other errors). Finally, properly
cite all your sources (in-text or parenthetical or footnotes or endnotes and a
bibliography). I will be looking for
changes based on the feedback you received on the paper outline. Doing well on the draft is critical to doing well
on the final paper.

Final Paper: The final paper, now 5-8 pages of actual text, needs to
include everything required in the draft and should also include any corrections,
additions, or modifications (including more extensive editing and proofreading)
needed for final submission. I will be
looking for changes based on the feedback you received on the paper draft. Be sure that you properly use and cite your
sources—you can earn no higher than a “D” if you don’t.

Introduction: introduce the author and the work, and talk about its context in a specific movement or genre.
Body of the paper: your analysis. Give examples to support your main thoughts.

On quotations and your own analysis: we are not interested in your copying from sources. You can use the information you find when you look something up, and comment on it, for example, if you look up information on literary history. Quotations should trigger your own analysis.

Explain the legal topic that engages business in some way, for example “How is trademark law in Canada applied to the fashion industry?”

Explain why the purpose of the discussion board is not to analyze data, it is to design a study that you could conduct with existing data or data you collect. Your dependent variable in this case is whether a student goes to public vs. private school. Therefore, your literature review should be about the characteristics that differentiate whether kids go to public or private school.
You do a good job describing the HSB data set and the variables you use.
Rather than analyzing the data, you should describe how you would analyze and validate the study.
You should also talk about threats to internal validity. What other variables or factors aside from the ones you listed might account for differences in whether students go to public or private schools?
Right now I would give you 75% on this work. Since I was late in reading your paper that you submitting early, I will give you until Sunday at midnight to submit a revision if you would like.
