In what way does the story reinforce or challenge (or simply describe/exemplify) some social norm or cultural value?
Choose one of the short stories we have read for this class. Write a paper addressing the following matters:
In what way does the story reinforce or challenge (or simply describe/exemplify) some social norm or cultural value? Provide evidence from the story to support your assertion. In other words, what is some statement or message you think the story is making about people or society–and what is your evidence for that?
Do you agree with the statement or message you think the story is putting forth–why or why not? Wherever possible, use evidence to support your position. (For example, if you believe the story is making a statement about institutional racism in the real world, refer to studies or statistics to show why you agree/disagree with the statement.)
What other considerations should the author or readers take into account as it relates to the underlying message or statement of the story? Did the story get some things wrong, or leave some things out? Could it have gone further to illustrate its point? Discuss matters like character, setting, plot, etc., as you analyze the story.

Write a paper on Environmental aspects of Linton Crosstown LRT project.Research Project
One of the perks of living in an urban area is to witness the development of complex construction
projects such as transit projects and high-rise buildings. In this research project you will study one
of these projects: Linton Crosstown LRT project. More specifically your work includes
analysis and critique of one aspect of the Linton LRT project. We will have a few guest lectures
to provide high-level information about the project. But your research must go beyond what has
already been presented in class.
Topics
Environmental aspects of the project: E.g., what aspects of the environmental issues
have been properly addressed in this project? What are the limitations? This can be
divided into subtopics such as CO2 emissions, fauna and flora, air quality, etc.
Guidelines for the final report
You are free to write the report as you want but it should
include two main components as outlined below: gathering information and a critique.
1. Gathering information: A detailed description of the aspect of the project you are
analyzing
o You are encouraged to include some information about your topic as related to
engineering and management of large projects in general (e.g., some theory, or
typical considerations, or examples from other projects), but please ensure that
you also apply this information specifically to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT case
study.
o How is your topic being implemented specifically in the context of the Eglinton
Crosstown project? (Please provide some detail here; consider including
diagrams/figures if relevant); What have been the major challenges? How have
stakeholders responded?
o NB: these are just some examples of possible guiding questions. You don’t
necessarily have to answer all of them, and you should not restrict your report just
to answering these questions
2. Critique: A critique of how your aspect of the project is being implemented
o Which parts are standard, and which are more innovative?
o What is being well done and why?
o What could be improved on and how?
o As above, these are just some examples of guiding questions for your critique. In
all cases, please be sure to explain your reasoning and to back up your argument
with evidence from project documents or other sources.
