This paper may be written as a Word document or developed as a PowerPoint presentation using slides instead of pages. Citations must be footnotes on the slides in the Notes area with a References slide(s) at the end. Students will select a broad topic, narrow it, and perform in-depth work on that topic. The project must be sufficiently complex to require the expertise of junior-senior level students.
If a PowerPoint format is used, then evidence of advanced PowerPoint techniques must be incorporated into the final presentation–timings, mobile graphics, use of effective transitions, etc.

Additional Considerations
Note a few of the common reasons why the research term paper would not meet the minimum standards:
Too easy. As stated above, the work must be “sufficiently complex to require the expertise of junior-senior level students.”
Too little time spent in research and writing.
Overlap of another course. If the content of the research paper involves concepts covered in another course(s), then it must be of a different or more complex nature. It includes the understanding that the student will complete all of the work. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Park University’s honesty regulations as found in the School of Online Learning will be followed.
Using only one source for the research.
All topics require the approval of the instructor.
Discuss questions relating to the paper with the instructor at any time necessary.

Research Project Format
The research paper should follow the grading criteria listed below. The paper may be written in MLA format or APA format. If a PowerPoint presentation is completed, then the font must be readable when shown to a group on a screen. The research should include a minimum of 4 to 6 references cited. The number is largely dependent on the quality of the sources and the research paper topic. The research paper should follow a similar format to that found in technical journals and the format of this syllabus. In particular, it must include the following items::

This assignment should be submitted to the proper TurnItIn Drop Box by 12:00 NOON on the due date listed here. The submission will be graded according to the rubric appearing above, and should be thoroughly proofread and properly cited. Limit your response to no more than 1,500 words (not including citations). Remember that all assignments can be turned in early for evaluation, and you will receive feedback within 72 hours. This assignment can be turned in after the due date listed here, but any submissions after the due date will receive a grade of either 0.0 (Fail) or 2.0 (Pass).
For this assignment, you will need to refer back to the Ethical Intuitions Survey from the first quiz of the term. Review the statements for items 8-15 (I’ve attached a copy to these instructions), and base the thesis of your essay on one of these statements. Your essay should contain four sections.
1. Introduction & Narration. First, clearly state your thesis, defining any key terms. If you completely agree with the statement, then you can simply quote (and cite) it as your thesis. If, however, you have any other position, then you will need to write your own, clear thesis statement on the same TOPIC as the item on the quiz. Your thesis must be a MORAL POSITION on the same GENERAL TOPIC as one of the items 8-15 from the Ethical Intuitions Survey, but it need not be one of the specific positions written on the Survey itself. There is no right or wrong answer here, and I am not concerned with whether or not I agree with your position on the statement or your reasons for choosing it. I just want you to clearly describe what your position is regarding one of those same topics appearing on the Survey .
Do bear in mind that the position you state here is the one you must ultimately give the most support in your essay. However, if, after writing your essay, you think your best arguments ended up supporting a different thesis, then CHANGE YOUR THESIS to the one you actually ended up supporting in your essay.
2. Affirmation/Argumentation. This is where you provide an argument in defense of the thesis you described in the previous section. Imagine a reader who has no opinion one way or the other on the statement you chose, and try to use logical argumentation to rationally convince them that your position is the one they should adopt. That is, tell me WHY you have the position you do on this statement, and why I, the reader, should adopt the same position, using the argumentation skills we have discussed in class. Make sure that your argument includes both moral principles and factual claims in support of the conclusion you described in the previous section. I don’t expect you to do any outside research for this essay, but if you do use any outside sources at all, make sure you cite them properly. Above all, avoid making any fallacious arguments.
The important part here is to formulate at least one clear, logical argument in defense of your thesis (more than one is even better). The lectures and assigned readings from Section 1 of your syllabus reading schedule will instruct you how to do this; this is the first thing we study in this course.
3. Refutation/Counterargumentation. This is where you provide at least one counterargument to the argument you just provided. That is, put yourself in the shoes of someone who disagrees with your position on the topic, and thinks some other position is better. Describe their position and provide least one good argument they might give in defense of that position, OR describe at least one problem or objection such a person might give to the argument you gave previously. Make sure that this counterargument also uses both moral principles and factual claims in support of a position that contradicts your own. The moral principles should still be plausible, and the factual claims should still be accurate, but together, they should support a position you DISAGREE with. Once again, cite any sources you use, avoid fallacious arguments, and focus on clear, logical argumentation.
At this point, you should have presented at least twoequally good, but contradictory arguments on the issue, leaving your reader on the fence as to which is the better position to have. The reader should know where YOU stand, but since you have argued both sides so well, THEY should be undecided at this point. If you have chosen a thesis that you feel VERY strongly about, you may find this to be the most challenging portion of the essay. As such, you might want to consider an issue you have a less committed position on, as that will make it easier to fairly present different positions on the issue, as this assignment requires.
4. Resolution/Conclusion. By now you have presented and defended both your position AND an opposing position on the core issue, and must now convince the reader that YOUR position (the one stated in your thesis) is the better of the two. To do this, you must respond to the counterarguments raised in the previous section. This is where you “break the tie” you established in the previous section, and sway the reader BACK to the position you initially asserted. You can do this in several ways:
(A) You might refute the counterarguments by highlighting a problem or flaw in the form or content of the arguments presented in the Refutation section; or
(B) You might counter the counterarguments by providing arguments against some core aspect of the arguments presented in the Refutation section; or
(C) You might argue for your initial thesis a second time, providing NEW arguments you had not already raised in the Affirmation section, thus presenting more argument for your thesis than against it, but allowing the arguments against it to stand.
You might also do all of these, or do each one more than once. Whichever strategy you choose, this will require additional arguments or counterarguments, evaluated according to the same standards as the previous two. Do NOT merely repeat points you’ve already made. Utilize both moral and factual premises, avoid fallacies, cite any sources you use, and argue clear and logically.
Proofread, Edit, and Cite!
After completing your essay, re-read these instructions, and make sure you have completed ALL FOUR SECTIONS as instructed, doing everything you were asked to do in each. Some sections might only be a one or two sentences long, whereas others will require at least a paragraph. The key is not to write a certain number of words or pages, but rather to COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT AS INSTRUCTED. Also, DO NOT FORGET TO CITE YOUR SOURCES. While it is possible to sit down with the Ethical Intuitions Survey and write this entire essay using no other resources, many of your will choose not to do that. If you use any other sources to help you, it is absolutely imperative that you cite them properly, using both a works cited/references page AND in-text citations of some kind, as you were taught in ENC 1101. Part 1: You will conduct an interview with one to three individuals, beginning with a structured (formal) interview, that you gradually allow to evolve into an informal open-ended interview(2). Plan at least an hour for this interview (longer if you have more than one person). The interview topic will be regarding the social, personal, and economic dimensions of the exchange of gifts. Focus on the following idea: Is there any such thing as a freely given gift, with no reciprocal action warranted? Make sure you have read the relevant material in the textbook (not Wikipedia, Google or other quick internet source) prior to embarking on this interview. Specify with your interviewees that you are concerned with gifting between individuals or families, not charitable donations/activities nor “random acts of kindness” which follow separate social conventions and carry different cultural meanings. Note: Saying “thank you” for a gift is not a reciprocal action; reciprocity would involve a return of at least equal value in goods or services.
In the M6 discussion forum, post a description of the approach you used and a description of your interview. Attach copies or images of your rough interview notes for the additional required 10 points.
Part 2: Gift something to someone and refuse reciprocity. This gift can be something that you made (which means that you need not purchase something in order to carry out this assignment, although it must be recognizable as “a gift”). You are conducting an experiment to determine how the person will react to receiving a gift that they cannot reciprocate. We often say we believe one thing (“it’s the thought that counts”) but then do another. See if you can give someone you know a gift and convince them not to reciprocate, without lengthy argument, because people say gifts are about thoughtfulness (rather than economic exchange), yet when it comes right down to it, they have trouble with actually doing this. You will want to follow these guidelines to get the best result:
• Do not gift to anyone you interviewed in Part 1 as they will be forewarned of your intention!
• Do not gift anonymously; this must be someone you know. Charitable acts and random acts of kindness follow different rule sets.
• Do not gift to someone who may feel you “owe” them.
• Do not gift a “rescue”, such as a lift to stranded person, or a jump for a dead battery, even if you know them. Rescues aren’t “gifts”, they’re “rescues”.
• Do not gift a close family member or particularly close friend, as the concept of delayed reciprocity will impact your results.
• Do not gift someone for an occasion like a birthday, or an event, like someone moving to your neighborhood, or any other culturally acceptable gifting reason, like an illness. You will trigger delayed reciprocity and might also find yourself in a gifting relationship for these types of occasions in future.
• Be very cautious about your gift recipient choice, as you are potentially modifying your current relationship with that individual!
• FOR BEST RESULTS: give your recognizable gift to an acquaintance that you’ve never given a gift before, refuse reciprocity without explanation, and don’t ask for a “thank you” nor state that a “thank you” is all you require (for some reason students often resort to this “thank you” business).
In the M6 Discussion forum, post a description of the gift you gave and to whom, the circumstances, and the reaction upon refusal of reciprocity. Conclude with a synopsis of all your research findings from Parts 1 & 2. Your essay should consist of at least 500 words. communication. With CQ, there is always more to learn and room to grow, and this course is an
opportunity to practice exercising each of the CQ capabilities. You can use your journal entries
to track your progress through the journey of this course, but hopefully you will feel inspired to
continue to develop your CQ beyond this course.

You will need to observe a child of a family member if possible (where you are not exposing yourself
to COVID) or watch one of the videos to complete your observation. The observation will be for the
developmental period – infancy (6mo. to 24 months). During the video or in person observation
complete your running record that is listed in the module. You want to make sure your obsrvation
focuses on just what you see. You should not include any opinion. Make sure to write down what
you see, hear…not what you think.
For the observational report, you will spend a half hour to hour observing a child or watching a video.
You need to make sure you address all of the developmental domains (biosocial, psychosocial and
cognitive). If you don’t get enough information from one video you may need to watch two. During

your interpretation of observations, you will prepare a written report. Your written paper will be based

Ratio analysis provides another set of patterns to evaluate before deciding to buy or sell a company’s stock. Ratios reveal more than just the past performance; ratios reveal how effectively the company converts product sales into shareholder returns. Ratios provide a gauge for comparison across time and across the industry (competitors), while removing the impact of size differences. Would you rather invest in Company A, with $1.0 million in earnings, or Company B, with $10.0 million in earnings? It’s hard to say. However, if Company A earns a ROA of 25%, while Company B earns a ROA of 2%, the decision becomes clear.
Liquidity ratios provide clues to how effectively the company manages its cash collection cycle. Asset turnover ratios reveal how efficiently the company uses its assets to generate profits. Debt management ratios reveal how leveraged a company is, which provides an indication of future risk. Taken together, a company’s ratios and its ratios compared to the industry competitors provide important insight to the investment strength of the company’s stock. In this assignment, you will review the trend in your chosen company’s financial ratios over the past 3 years and compare your chosen company’s ratios to the average ratios from top competitors in the industry.

Summarize the trends in your company’s ratio performance over the 3 most recent years. Be sure to address the following ratios included in Appendix C:
Profitability ratios: ROA, ROE, return on investment (ROI).
Liquidity ratios: quick ratio, current ratio.
Debt management ratios: long-term debt to equity, total debt to equity, interest coverage ratio.
Asset management ratios: total asset turnover, receivables turnover, inventory turnover, and accounts payable turnover.

Interpret whether the trend for each ratio (listed in Part 1) is an improvement or a decline in performance for the company.
