Now that you have some idea of how media coverage works, you have the chance to take on the role of an editor. Choose a protest or event in which people are calling for change and create a photo essay or podcast about it. You will then write an ‘artist’s statement’ about your piece.

Part 1: Create a photo essay or podcast
Option No. 1: Photo essay
Some considerations
Since you were likely not taking photos at any of these events, you will have to research online for images. As this is a school project, not for profit, you will not have to pay royalties, but be sure to credit the photos you choose using proper MLA format.

Task 1: Create a photo array of 6–9 images
Before you search for photographs, research the event.
Why did the protest take place? What was the inciting incident?
What is the background to that incident?
Who organized the protest? Who were the protesters?
Where and when did it take place?
Did it remain peaceful or were there damage or casualties?
Did any change result from the protest?
Aim to tell a story with your photo essay. Title or write a caption for each photo.

Part 2: Artist’s statement
Once you have your photo essay or podcast completed, write an explanatory paragraph for the reader that meets the following criteria:

Connor, Denise, Larisa, and Sam recognize an essential early step in creating Viral Clean (‘Clean”) is to agree on a business organizational form and clarify the owners’ roles because each has different priorities, interests, and expectations about the business.

Businesses are created in one of several organizational structures or forms. Choosing a business structure involves several factors, including which structure is most favorable for the company and its owners.

The goal for Clean is to minimize legal risks and liabilities and tax liabilities for the owners and the business. The owners understand a business organizational structure can achieve this goal and define their managerial roles and responsibilities clearly to satisfy their interests and maximize their areas of expertise.

Connor, Denise, Larisa, and Sam agree that weighing and balancing advantages and disadvantages for the company and its owners is the heart of the process of choosing a business structure. controversy relating to the exchange of human organs. The case does not need to be a court case.

Directions

Follow these steps when composing your essay:

1. Start
by selecting a controversial case found in the media involving the sale, trade,
or donation of human organs. For example, an appropriate case might include a
story in the news about an organ broker, and the term to define might be “criminal.”
2. Decide
what category you think your case belongs in, with the understanding that
others may disagree with you about the definition of your category, and/or
whether your chosen case matches your category.

In the opening of your essay, introduce the case you will examine and
pose your definition question. Do not simply
summarize here. Instead, introduce the issue and offer context.

To support your argument, define the boundaries of your category
(criteria) by using a commonly used definition or by developing your own
extended definition. Defining your
boundaries simply means naming the criteria by which you will discuss your chosen
case involving the sale, trade, or donation of human organs. If you determine,
for example, that an organ broker is a criminal, what criteria constitute this?
A criminal may intentionally harm others, which could be one of your criteria.
5.
In the second part of your argument (the match), show how your case
meets (or does not meet) your definition criteria. Perhaps by comparing or
sizing up your controversial case to other cases can help you to develop your
argument.
This essay is NOT simply a persuasive essay on the sale, trade, or donation of human organs.
It is an argumentative essay where the writer explains what a term means and
uses a specific case to explore the meaning of that term in-depth.

FSocial Media Perception
Our choices of social media shape our perceptions of events, issues, and people. Cultural memberships influence the content of digital and online communication. Social media have altered how we perceive time and space. People tend to feel anonymous online, even when they have a name associated with their avatar. On the internet, computer mediated conversations lack body language, voice intonation, and other important nonverbal elements. Without these features, people are compelled to fill in the gaps with assumptions about the nonverbal elements.
For some reason, people become much more sensitive when they’re online, and they tend to blow things entirely out of proportion—for example, taking a couple of sentences originally meant to be humorous or sarcastic entirely the wrong way. It’s even worse if you’ve had a bad day and you’ve decided that “no one likes you” (we’ve all had those moments); you’re much more susceptible to misunderstanding messages. Once that happens, everything can go downhill quickly. Instead of asking for clarification (“You were kidding, weren’t you?”) or just ignoring it, many people—forgetting that they’re dealing with another human being on the other end—decide to defend themselves and tell the originator of the offending message exactly what they think of him or her. This outcome is what’s known in the business as a flame. If both sides begin insulting each other, it’s called a flame war (kind of like fighting fire with fire). These digital battles often erupt in “public” and can sometimes be very entertaining to the lurkers.”

If outside sources are used, proper citation of the source should be included at the end of the PowerPoint on a reference slide.
