What is Your Theoretical Orientation?

Personal reflection: “What is Your Theoretical Orientation?”

This assignment is designed to prompt you to explore the dimensions of your personal theoretical
orientation. We spent the first several weeks of class discussing various schemas that can be used to categorize the theories and questions they raise and seek to answer. In this reflection I want you to articulate the viewpoints that most closely align with your own views. This is not a definitive declaration and is not meant to limit you, but rather to encourage you to make a deeper connection with the material.

OUTLINE:

Part 1 – Defining Communication
2 paragraphs
How do you define communication? In your answer, be sure to address what it means for
“communication to be central.”

Part 2 – Philosophical Assumptions
4 paragraphs
Define epistemology, ontology, and axiology. Within each section be sure to address the questions each paradigm raises, and which perspective do you agree with most. Note, you do not need to address every aspect of the 3 perspectives, but rather you should focus on the elements with which you most strongly agree.

Part 3 – Craig’s Traditions of Communication Theory
6 paragraphs
This section requires you to synthesize a framework for organizing theory with a tradition of
communication theory. First, select a tradition for organizing theory that you favor most (see readings and slides). Explain the framework providing a definition for any necessary concepts. Next,
select and explain the tradition of Communication theory you find the most interesting. How do the framework and tradition align? Or does it?

Part 4 – Conclusion
2 paragraphs
This final section is an opportunity for you to reflect on how taking an intentional and theoretical look at communication changes your views of it. Or, in other words, to position communication as central rather than peripheral. In your response, you can address how this impacts the way you view communication in your personal, professional, and civic life.

Write a 3–5 page paper in which you do the following:
Determine if the NFP’s statements conform to the FASB guidance, explaining how the selected NFP uses the required fund categories and recommending at least two areas of potential interest to stakeholders concerning the NFP’s revenue and expense status.
Analyze the selected NFP’s financial statements to determine if the statements conform to the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) guidance from Not-for-Profits. (Note: You have to click “Accept” to see the guidance.)
As part of the analysis, explain how the selected NFP organization uses the required fund categories and recommend at least two areas of potential interest to stakeholders concerning the NFP’s revenue and expense status.
Explain the format utilized to prepare the Statement of Cash Flows, pointing out at least two areas of emphasis that differ from GAAP accounting format.
The financial statements of NFP organizations include a Statement of Cash Flows.
Analyze this Statement of Cash Flows in order to explain the format utilized.
Point out any unique areas of emphasis that differ from GAAP accounting format.
Compare the organization’s reporting of pledges and contributions to its reporting of exchange transactions, discussing at least three of the funds used.
NFP organizations report pledges and contributions in addition to reporting exchange transactions.
Assess the fiscal condition of the selected NFP organization, interpreting financial indicators specific to NFPs and financial ratios widely accepted as being indicative of fiscal health.

Sorry, ADHD is not on this list, we will get to it in a few weeks. Explain what the exceptionality is, how it is addressed in schools, and any common problems these students may face.

Introduction Section

Participants
The overall goal of this study was to see how task selection affects procrastination. This study involved the participation of forty Barton college freshmen (male and female). All of the participants were to complete four tasks individually. All of the 40 participants were assigned the same tasks. The participants were selected from freshman enrolled in Psychology 101. The participants were handed the four tasks in a shuffled order to show that they did not have to complete the tasks in any order. Additionally, the participants were told that they would be able to choose whichever task they wanted to complete first. There were no groups in our study, the researchers collected data from all the participants, then compared the data to see if there were any similarities in the demographics of the participants. The demographics that our research group asked from the participants were gender, ethnicity, age, grade, and major.

Materials
In this experiment we used the Irrational Procrastination Scale (IPS) questionnaire, a short essay prompt, four math worksheets, including one addition, subtraction, division and multiplication pages. We also included a coloring page, colored pencils, a reading passage with questions, a data collection sheet and a pencil. The IPS measures how much of a procrastinator the participant thinks they are.

Procedure
In this experiment, we had the participants come in and sit at the desks in the classroom. Each desk had a number to identify the participants as. They then received a packet with the IPS questionnaire, a short essay prompt, four math worksheets containing one page of multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. In this packet was also the coloring page and reading passage with questions to answer. The instructions were simple: there is 35 minutes to complete all of the tasks in the packet. The packets were all in the same order so that there was no confusion and we could keep the experiment as controlled as possible, to reduce confounding variables. On the front of the packet, there was a cover sheet that had them list their favorite of our tasks from one to four. Next to that was four other lines they would fill out at the end of the experiment. Before they started the experiment we, the researchers, had the participants read and fill out the informed consent document so they understood the procedure of the experiment. When the participants were done filling out the informed consent document, we started the clock and said to finish one task at a time before moving on to the next one. At the end of the 35 minutes, we had the participants write the order that they had completed the tasks next to the lines that they had listed their favorite tasks from one to four. When everyone had finished writing their orders, they were allowed to get up and leave.
OUR HYPOTHESIS: Students who procrastinate tend to experience higher levels of anxiety and stress
