SEWS stands for Sequential Enhancement
of Writing Skills. It is a writing requirement for all undergraduate
programs. All students in 4-year baccalaureate degree granting programs must
complete a Junior (300 level) and Senior (400 level) SEWS paper. To fullfill
this requirement students enrolled will write a research paper on a
vulnerable population. Please see the rubrics.

Minimum of 4 pages but no more than 6 (not including title and reference pages)

Advert Analysis

Advertisement Analysis
(100 points)
Purpose:
Demonstrate skills in semiotic analysis, basic argumentation, essay structure and source integration.
Process:

Assignment:
Write a detailed structural analysis of a print advertisement.
Upload your essay in PDF to Canvas by the indicated due date.

Tips:
Analyze the meaning of colors, setting, framing, expressions, words, etc.
Draw conclusions about what these signs and symbols represent.
Which “appeals” do these signs elicit within the consumer (Fowles)?
Who is the consumer, according to the VALS2 chart (Twitchell)?
How do the signs manipulate the consumer into “purchasing” the product?
Your thesis statement should identify the ad’s target audience (VALS2) as well as its message / purpose.
Structure:
This essay usually follows one of the following structures:
The first structure is to devote one body paragraph to each emotional appeal that you wish to analyze and to show how the visual elements within the image evoke that emotion, which then evokes the sale.
The second structure is to devote one body paragraph to each major visual element you wish to analyze and then to show how each major visual element evokes specific emotional wedge(s) that then evoke the sale.

Demographics and Mission Statement

District Summary:
Write a descriptive narrative about your school district.
Include information on your district’s:
size,
location,
demographics-ethnicity breakdown, socioeconomics, etc
District Report Card,
student achievement,
strengths/weaknesses,
name of the superintendent,
number of administrators,
number of teachers,
average salaries,
number of special education population, and any other information you feel is relevant.
You may also want to compare the districts percentage of identified special education students to the state average.
The summary should give a thorough description of the school district. The Oklahoma State Department of Education is an excellent source of information.
District Transition Mission Statement:
Write a mission statement detailing purpose and goals of the Transition Plan. Google how to write a mission statement. Do not just use your district’s mission statement. This will be one specifically for transition. You will include it as part of your District Transition Plan.

Observe
Observe or participate in interprofessional team interactions or a team meeting.
The suggested time is at least one hour for the activity.
Interprofessional team interactions/meetings could involve collaborative team planning or clinical interactions such as joint goal-setting, assessments, interventions, or service planning.
The format of interactions could be face-to-face meetings, team rounds, or team huddles. They should involve two or more team members of different professions/roles.

Final Research Paper
At the end of this course you will be submitting a completed research paper. This will include
selecting and narrowing a topic, preliminary research, and establishing a focus for a 12-15-page
research paper. Throughout the process, you will use information literacy skills to analyze problems,
research and select relevant information, and evaluate the credibility of that information. The final
paper includes an abstract, an introduction, discussion, conclusion, and references. It is imperative
that you strictly adhere to APA formatting and citations, including but not limited to:
• Cover Page
• Running Head
• Abstract
• Parenthetical Citations
• Alphabetized Reference Page
• Double Spaced
• Times New Roman 12-point font
The Research Paper is built in smaller milestones so that you prepare it while you cover individual
modules. The details of each milestone can be found in the respective discussion boards and
assignments.
Module 3
In the “Identify Potential Paper Topics” Discussion Board, you will identify a list of three to five
potential topics that you would like to research for your 12-15-page final paper.
Module 4
In the “Develop a Research Question” Discussion Board, you will write three possible research
questions you could use to write your paper. In the “Develop Two Introductions” Discussion Board,
you draft two separate introductions to your essay paper. In the “Incorporate Summary, Paraphrase,
and Response” Assignment, you should practice incorporating sources through summary,
paraphrase, and analysis. Your draft should already be between 300-400 words, and to complete this
assignment you should revise it to be between 600-700 words.
Module 5
In the “Working References List” Discussion Board, you will identify and upload correct APA
reference citations of four potential articles that you might use in your research paper. At least three
of these must be scholarly academic articles. In the “Outline for Research Paper” Discussion Board,
you will draft an outline for your research paper. You should write and post an outline that includes
main points for your introduction, at least three body paragraphs, and your conclusion. In the
“Annotated Bibliography Draft 1” Assignment, you will write an academic summary for two articles
you found in this module and include the correct citation at the beginning of your annotation for
each article.
Module 6
In the “Topic Sentences” Discussion Board, draft at least three topic sentences that you will use in
your research paper. In the “Annotated Bibliography Final Draft” Assignment, add two more
citations and academic summaries to your Annotated Bibliography and submit your final draft. In the
“Body Paragraphs and Conclusion” Assignment, you will add at least three body paragraphs and a
conclusion to your discussion section of your paper.
Module 7
In the “Peer Review” Discussion Board, you will post your most recent version of your research
paper for peer review and comments. In the “Paper Abstract” Assignment, you will upload an
abstract for your paper. In the “Primary Research” Assignment, you will upload a document where
you describe how you would incorporate primary research into your research project.
Module 8
In the last module, “Final Research Paper” Assignment, you will upload your final research paper. It
should be fully and carefully edited and should use proper APA citation. Remember that the final
paper should be between 12 and 15 pages (not including your title page, references, and abstract
page) and should include a minimum six sources, with at least four being scholarly s

Juvenile Delienquency Research Paper

For this paper, you will identify and analyze a narrative about “juvenile delinquency.” You may
choose to write about a popular narrative (i.e., one that is commonly expressed and/or written
about) or you may choose to write about a less apparent or well-known narrative. You may
even choose to develop your own narrative. Regardless of the narrative, you select, you should
develop a thesis that supports or critiques the narrative. In a 1,500-2,000-word essay, you will
provide evidence from at least four sources (at least one of which must be a primary source*)
to support your argument. While you may focus on any period in the United States history, your
essay should be clear about the time period you are discussing. Be sure to consider how social
and political factors might have impacted why your narrative was or was not broadly accepted
at the time. (Be sure to consider how narratives might be viewed/experienced differently by
different people.)
