Identify the brand you selected to evaluate and its brand objective.

In this discussion, you will evaluate an example of a brand failure and diagnose what mistakes were made in the creation or maintenance of the brand. You will also make recommendations as to how the brand failure could have been avoided and how future brand failures can be avoided through effective brand maintenance.
For your initial post, with this examples below.

SAME TOPIC EVALUATE:
In 2009 Hershey rebranded their logo and went for a more modern look. People were critiquing how awful the Hershey kiss looked and how the new logo didn’t match the brand. After social media hate and some bashing online, Hershey decided to get rid of the kiss emblem and just stick with the word Hershey itself, which I feel like was not a good option. Although realistically Hershey is a good brand that everyone knows of, I think they should listen to their customers on brand representation. According to Crowdspring, the rebranding was done to appeal to a more modern time. The second thing that this article pointed out was that social media can be the make or break of a brand. If customers disapprove of something you should often work to fix that because your customers are what make a brand and you should want to make them happy. When preventing brand failure in the future i think taking a poll from your clients is most important. You should want to know the opinions of your customers because they are the factor on if a brand is successful or not.

Then, address the following:

Explain why you agree or disagree with your peers’ diagnosis of the brand’s mistakes and their suggestions for possible preventative strategies.
Provide an alternative suggestion as to how the mistake could have been addressed in order to minimize the damage it caused the brand. Use academic resources to support your suggestion.

DIFFERENT TOPIC EVALUATE:

I chose Coca-Cola’s Rebranding Failure in 1985. I can speak from first hand experience on this one. I was a late teenager and new to the Army when this happened. When Coke switched to what they called “New Coke” it was everywhere. I’m talking all the soda machines, and grocery stores. The commercials were on all the time about this new coke. So people really liked it, but most were looking for a slight improvement on the original taste. After about a month, people were not shy about letting their feelings be known about how awful New Coke tasted. It was a different time then. No cell phones, no Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. The only way to affect change was to not by the product. It was a great time for Pepsi and not for Coke. Eventually, Coke put the original back on the the market and kept the New Coke, but eventually it went away. I personally, thought the New Coke taste was good, but not better than the original.
I think the objective was to take the lead in the “Cola Wars” that were going on between Coke and Pepsi. Ever notice how when you go somewhere to eat you can only get either Pepsi or Coke products, but cannot choose? When it did not work, they reversed course immediately so as not to lose more in sales. I think the biggest mistake made by Coke was the fact that they just put the new product out there and because Coke claimed that New Coke was so great, the masses would just fall in line and accepted the New Coke as something better. It did not happen. I can only imagine the backlash if that happened in today’s automated world?

Explain why you agree or disagree with your peers’ diagnosis of the brand’s mistakes and their suggestions for possible preventative strategies.
Provide an alternative suggestion as to how the mistake could have been addressed in order to minimize the damage it caused the brand. Use academic resources to support your suggestion.
