Lab notebook 7

*IMPORTANT: Directions for using the Lab Notebook
Maintaining an electronic lab notebook is required for the duration of this course. The labs will be conducted by an experienced instructor. As you watch the labs, you should keep a lab notebook like you would if you were conducting the lab. A well-kept lab notebook is the key to successful labs. The lab notebook acts as the record of your experiment, the procedures used, the results obtained, as well any additional information that may be beneficial to recall later. This is a great way to organize your thoughts and understand the overall goals of each lab experiment. Note: Your lab notebook may be used as you take the lab exam.
A lab notebook document has been provided for you to use, and should be downloaded and used for each lab notebook submission (this can be done by clicking the following blue link at the top of the page titled Download BIOD 171 Microbiology Lab Notebook.docx). You should add notes to the same document so that your lab notes are all in one place, and are easy to access and utilize during lab exams, and the lab final. The lab notebook template provide includes bookmarks (blue hyperlinks) and will allow you to quickly move from one lab to another. It also provides headings of the required content that you need to include for each lab. The required headings are the following:
Title:
Objective:
Procedure:
Notes:
Results:
When you are done with the lab and you have taken all necessary notes in your lab notebook, upload your Lab Notebook document by following these instructions:
To complete this assignment, click “Submit Assignment” at the top right hand of the page. Once you do so, scroll to the bottom of the page, and follow the directions below for submitting your work:

Insurance and Healthcare Reimbursement

Assignment:
For this assignment, you create a Power Point Presentation discussion ACA and health insurance. Address the following questions in the presentation
Title slide
Discuss in your own words at least 2 advantages and 2 disadvantages to MCO’s (2-3 slides)
Discuss the specific characteristics of HMO’s (how are HMO’s different from other plans?) (2-3 slides)
Discuss the specific characteristics of PPO’s (2 to 3 slides)
In your own words, explain how Obamacare/Affordable Care Act has changed healthcare in America. (3-4 slides)
Show the case scenarios (below) (4-6 slides)
In each case scenario that follows, calculate the financial responsibility of the patient and/or carrier and the discounted amount that the physician must write off. Show calculations and identify amounts. Student should complete each case on a separate slide. Students can place the questions on the slide, then provide the answers with calculations.
Felix Grossman was seen today for an upper respiratory infection. Total charges for today’s services are $140. The allowed amount is $90. What is the discount amount and the amount the carrier pays to the provider?
Emma Mastrangelo had a CT scan of the brain today because of recurrent migraines. Total charges are $720.50. Her benefits pay 90 percent of this procedure. The allowed amount is $462.60. What is the patient responsibility, discount amount, and the amount the carrier pays provider?
Mabel Smith was seen in the office today for a checkup on her rheumatoid arthritis. Total charges are $85. The allowed amount is $52. She has a copay of $10. What is the discount amount, and the amount the carrier pays provider?
Rufus Durst had a cholecystectomy performed today. Total charges are $2995.70. His benefits pay 60 percent of this procedure. The allowed amount is $1745.32. What is the patient responsibility amount, discount amount, and the amount the carrier pays? What amount will the physician write off?
For this section, insure information is referenced and cited in your slides. The presentation should start with a title slide and end with a reference slides. If you include pictures, you pictures should also be referenced and cited.
Assignment Expectations:
Length:
15 – 21 slides
Use the tips at http://www.garrreynolds.com/preso-tips/design/ to create the slideshow.
Because good PowerPoints have very few words, submit a script that describes the content of each slide – about 50 words per slide. Place this script in a separate Word document that shows each slide number and the text for each slide as shown in the provided PowerPoint Slide Notes.docx.

Reading Notes: Puchner on Manifesto

You can turn these in however you want. Photos of handwritten notes, typed notes, Pdfs of crazy flow charts. Whatever. Just show me that you’ve done the reading carefully and on time. Quotes, key passages, questions, outlines, are all acceptable ways to take notes. This link is the video to show you what we need for the reading notes (https://voicethread.com/myvoice/thread/7007713/37272001/38441781). Covers the glottis during swallowing
Contains the vocal cords
Connects the larynx to the primary bronchi
Balloon-like structures at ends of the respiratory bronchioles
Section of the lung that lies on the diaphragm
Outer double-layered serous membrane
Impression on the left lung to accommodate the heart
View the histology slides Figure 36.6 (b)and Figure 36.7 (a)and (b) in your Laboratory Manual and identify the microscopic structures indicated by a leader line, number, or bracket. In the threaded Discussion Area below, briefly describe the function of:

**Please read these instructions carefully!**

Reserve a Key Topic
Key topics are addressed within each chapter. Select a key topic to research and discuss. Post the topic you wish to reserve in the subject line of your thread. You may choose the same topic as a peer, but the topics must be addressed from different vantage points (perspectives).
The Thread
After you have chosen your key topic, use the Internet to search for at least 5 scholarly resources that relate to the topic and have been published within the last 5 years. Academic articles and journals must be reputable and obtained from professional websites that address the content of this course. Popular magazines and online sources such as Wikipedia are not permissible.
After reading the articles, select 1 article relating to your key topic that you wish to use in your thread. Adhere to the following format:
1. Key Concept Explanation: Define your key topic by using a source other than the
textbook. Give a clear, concise overview of the essential elements relevant to
understanding your key topic. In addition, explain why you are interested in this topic
(e.g., academic curiosity, application to a current issue related to employment, or any
other professional rationale). This section must be at least 100 words.
2. Comparison: Compare your research with what you have studied during the module in
which the key topic/thread is assigned. Note differences or commonalities about your key
topic, providing evidence that you have extended your understanding of this topic beyond
the textbook readings. This is an opportunity for you to cite the additional articles you
originally researched. This section must be at least 200 words.
3. Article Summary: In your own words, provide a clear and concise summary of the
article you selected. This section must be at least 200 words.
4. Biblical Integration: Include at least 3 appropriate biblical references. Explain the
relevance of your key topic to God’s law and how it can be applied in a Christian context.
This section must be at least 100 words.
5. Application: Specifically state how your key topic has been applied to real-world
businesses or describe the potential your key topic has to influence today’s business
world. Your application must possess a professional rationale that demonstrates the
significance of your key topic. This section must be at least 100 words.
6. Annotated Bibliography: Cite the articles you researched in current APA format. An
annotation must accompany each citation. Each annotation will consist of a descriptive
and evaluative paragraph that is at least 100 words. The annotations are designed to help
your classmates in their understanding of your topic. In addition, provide a persistent link
for each article.

Identify an organization in your industry (but not the company you selected for your course project) that used one of the seven common winning moves.
Which move did they use and why do you think they elected to use this move?
How effective was this move in establishing meaningful differentiation? Support your response with references to this week’s materials including Chapter 9 from Sherman.
