What is it that Jericho Brown wants us to say “Thank You” & “I’m Sorry” for?

You will choose only ONE of the available pieces below & answer only ONE of the available questions in the form of a 4+ minute video presentation. Again, ONLY ONE QUESTION FOR ONE PIECE. That’s it.
Jericho Brown’s “Say Thank You Say I’m Sorry” https://www.myerberg.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Say-Thank-You-Say-Im-Sorry-Jericho-Brown-poem.pdf
1. What is it that Jericho Brown wants us to say “Thank You” & “I’m Sorry” for? Please explain. Make sure to develop a focused analysis that makes a point and uses evidence (quotes) from the story to illustrate and support. Don’t just simply make a list of examples.
Jamiaica Kincaid’s “Girl”
Girl_by_Jamaica_Kincaid.pdf

1. Why would the “mother figure” in this story speak to her daughter in this manner? Explain what you believe are her motivations. What is she trying to achieve? Make sure to develop a focused analysis that makes a point and uses evidence (quotes) from the story to illustrate and support. Don’t just simply make a list of examples.
Ernest Hemingway’s “Hills Like White Elephants”
Hemingway_Hills+Like+White+Elephants.pdf

1. The reference to “White Elephants” is crucial to this story. Explain why & how. How does it apply? Make sure to develop a focused analysis that makes a point and uses evidence (quotes) from the story to illustrate and support. Don’t just simply make a list of examples.
2. One of the clever mechanisms that Hemingway uses in this story having his characters speak in “code.” Throughout the entire piece, they never say what they truly feel. Why does he do this? What does it say about the nature of their relationship? Make sure to develop a focused analysis that makes a point and uses evidence (quotes) from the story to illustrate and support. Don’t just simply make a list of examples.
3. Many consider Hemingway’s story to be FEMINIST. Do you agree? Why/how? Make sure to develop a focused analysis that makes a point and uses evidence (quotes) from the story to illustrate and support. Don’t just simply make a list of examples.
John Updike’s “A & P”

UpdikeAP.pdf

1. Explain how this particular short story explores the idea of socio-economic divisions & the reasons behind them (Example: Rich vs Poor, Small town vs. Big City).  How does the story show it? Make sure to develop a focused analysis that makes a point and uses evidence (quotes) from the story to illustrate and support. Don’t just simply make a list of examples.
2. This story is considered a classic “coming-of-age story.” As discussed in class, the critical moment in stories like this is when the character makes the transition from innocence to the “real world” & many times it happens via conflict or violence. When does this happen for the main character & why? How do you believe it changed him? Make sure to develop a focused analysis that makes a point and uses evidence (quotes) from the story to illustrate and support. Don’t just simply make a list of examples.
Dorothy Allison’s “Jason Who Will Be Famous.”
AllisonJasonWhoWillBeFamousComplete.pdf

1.  When most people dream of becoming famous, they envision themselves becoming athletes or music/film stars or famous business people and/or inventors or creators. Why then does Jason only envision himself becoming famous through the experience of TRAUMA? By being abducted & kept locked inside a basement for months? Why do you think he believes that’s the only way for him to become famous?  Make sure to develop a focused analysis that makes a point and uses evidence (quotes) from the story and interview to illustrate and support. Don’t just simply make a list of examples.
2. Considering that Jason fits the profile of the “unreliable narrator,” how does this unreliability affect the way you understand the story? Do you believe Jason? Does anything (or everything) need to be questioned due to his unreliability?  Make sure to develop a focused analysis that makes a point and uses evidence (quotes) from the story and interview to illustrate and support. Don’t just simply make a list of examples.
3. Do you see parallels between Jason’s obsession with fame, his twisted fantasy & contemporary society today?  Make sure to develop a focused analysis that makes a point and uses evidence (quotes) from the story and interview to illustrate and support. Don’t just simply make a list of examples.
Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird.
1. Explore the relationship between Lady Bird & her mother. How does it affect Lady Bird? Make sure to develop a focused analysis that makes a point and uses evidence (quotes) from the story and interview to illustrate and support. Don’t just simply make a list of examples.
2. During the lead up to the film’s release, the film’s writer/director, Greta Gerwig, stated that more “coming-of-age stories” told from a female perspective need to be shared with the world. Why? Because unlike the traditional male coming-of-age story which centers on the idea of obtaining something, she claims that female coming-of-age stories focus more on the idea of “letting go.” So, with that in mind, what is it that Lady Bird has to “let go”? Make sure to develop a focused analysis that makes a point and uses evidence (quotes) from the story and interview to illustrate and support. Don’t just simply make a list of examples.

Important Things to Remember:
Analyzing any work of literature involves making an argument: You must make a claim (thesis) and support it with specific evidence, details, and examples from the text — this means your analysis MUST include quotations from the texts to be successful. Only with careful attention to detail, solid evidence, and careful reasoning will you persuade.
Make sure your video responds specifically to the question you’ve chosen.
A clear position. Are you specific? Does your video follow that claim all the way through to the end? No deviations. No rambling. No “freestyling.”
Have MULTIPLE examples & quotes to defend your position.
*A NOTE ABOUT PLAGIARISM:
DON’T DO IT. Please review the course policy and definition of plagiarism included in the course syllabus. Plagiarism results in failure of the course. There are no exceptions to this course policy.

*Be sure to organize your thoughts ahead of time, but do not record yourself reading a paper. This video is private (only I can see it), but think of it as a product that best represents you and the best of what you can accomplish.

A five minute speech can range between 600 – 900 words depending
on the speaker’s pace.

Does Mirands make it for the police to gather information for the report, not to mention the entire investigation?

FDor this discussion, consider some of the road blocks to gathering information for a report. As you can see, the title of the weekly content mentions the Miranda warning. Does Mirands make it for the police to gather information for the report, not to mention the entire investigation? Why? Should it be hard for police to gather information? Explain your position.

Can you find examples? Real or fictitious.

You can think about other issues that may cause problems as well. Are there any other legal hurdles?

Write a program that inputs three integers and outputs the smallest, the largest, the sum and the average.

For compatibility with my compiler, the following must be
used:

Chapter 2:
1)
Write a program that inputs two integers and
outputs the larger of the two.
2)
Write a program that inputs three integers and
outputs the smallest, the largest, the sum and the average.

What, in your view, is one of the most pressing concerns of our time?

Step by step:
What, in your view, is one of the most pressing concerns of our time? For example, climate change/gender-based violence? Read Treadwell chapters for quantitative research and decide on the topic that is feasible to subject to study quantitatively. For example, climate change coverage and its impact on mental health? Or gender-based violence in the news in the US versus a non-Western country of your choice?
Conduct a scholarly literature search on the topic of your choice to explore how other scholars have approached it. Reference the sources to discuss the theoretical background of your project and refine and justify your own disposition.
Formulate a research question/interest of your own, and a hypothesis. For example, what is the impact of climate change media coverage on mental health of the millennials and the elderly? Hypothesis: The magnitude of climate change coverage increases anxiety and stress experienced by both the millennials and the elderly. OR Who speaks about gender-based violence in the news media in a Western versus non-Western news outlet? Hypothesis: The status of women in a specific country has a relationship with who appears as a subject, victim, or survivor in the news in the context of gender-based violence.
Decide on methodological tools: for example, decide how to operationalize climate change coverage and mental health (anxiety and stress); how to make them measurable? For the independent variable (media coverage), you could draw upon existing literature, and design a survey to measure its link with aspects of mental health (dependent variable) OR you could design and conduct a content analysis of media coverage to establish the fact that climate change coverage has increased over the past years, and then design a survey to address the link between the independent and dependent variable (mental health).
For gender-based violence, decide what constitutes gender-based violence in the news, e.g. femicide, technological abuse, sexual assaults etc. Once you have identified your keywords, news outlets to be included, the sample, and finally, the stories that you will include in your study, code each observation to a code in alignment with quantitative content analysis standards. Process, analyze, present, and discuss the data.
Revisit your hypothesis to prove, revise, or reject it. For example, extensive climate change coverage increases anxiety and stress more among the millennials than the elderly. If this is the case, how to address and exclude other possible reasons for your findings, e.g. the assumption that perhaps the elderly are equally, if not more, worried about it than the millennials, but just do not talk about it? And about the gender-based violence, for example: hypothesis rejected because the global “me too” movement brought the countries closer together in their ways of addressing gender-based violence, at least momentarily.
Summarize and discuss your findings in your report (appr. 7 pages, 1,5 spaced). The report explains the research process from beginning to an end in detail. The paper should include a scholarly section focusing on the background of the topic, explanation of the key terms, and quantitative method used for collecting and analyzing data, description, justification, and analysis of original or secondary data, presentation and discussion of research results, and a conclusion. At least one scholarly source required in addition to the class readings.

Do you consider yourself a customer at CCBC?

Assignment:
Please be thoughtful in your responses. Your original
response should be at least 200 words. Please respond to two of the discussion
comments with some level of insight or opinion. This discussion assesses the
course goal #1 – Examining the nature and reactions of various customers.

Read the article “Students as Customers” by Melodi
Guilbault. This article examines the nature of customers in an educational
setting. Please answer the following questions as it relates to the article. In
the process, please consider the reality of you being a customer (or not) at
CCBC.
Do you consider yourself a customer at CCBC? What types of
behaviors do you demonstrate as a customer?
Are there other groups or individuals that are considered
customers?
Why would faculty think that students are not customers, and
what behaviors would students exhibit when they consider themselves customers
in a faculty members class?
What does CCBC do that show that students are customers?
Please be thoughtful in your responses. Your original
response should be at least 200 words. Please respond to two of the discussion
comments with some level of insight or opinion.

My Response:
I would like to start by defining
what a customer is. A customer is anyone who purchases a goods or services. So
to answer the first questions, I do consider myself a customer at CCBC.
Behaviors that I demonstrate as a customer is receiving promotional information
about the college and the services they offer. That shows me that CCBC values
me as a current customer and they also support my goals to better my education.
Another behavior is the monetary exchange made. At CCBC I pay for a for the credit,
but CCBC offers great professors to help me do so. Those professors are where
the service provided is involved. If
they didn’t have great professors, student retention from freshman-to-sophomore
would be a concern.
Since I do not know the specifics
about other staff and the hiring process. It would be difficult for me to say
who other customers are at CCBC. As stated, I think a customer is someone who
has purchased a goods or service. Anyone who was wearing CCBC branded clothing
or swag. Anyone who attends sporting events, or utilizes CCBC campuses for
whatever reason. Anyone who is purchasing a service or a product from CCBC. I
believe CCBC even offers youth summer camps. Those families would be considered
customers.
Faculty may not consider students
as customers because they feel as if customer service would require all
students to receive an A. That they cannot provide a service when our grade
outcome is based on our performance. I’m sure it puts a lot of pressure on the
faculty members. I have taken many classes with all different faculty members,
and there are some that go above and beyond to support you. And there are
others who are just there to give work. But as a student, having the professor
that goes above and beyond to make sure I am ready for the midterm exam, or that
I am respond to my email with care are the teachers I don’t forget, and the
classes I learn the most from. As a student, the professor who doesn’t give
study guides, or equip you with what you expect on an assignment, I spend more
time frustrated and searching for pointless information, and learn little to
nothing. If I am reaching out as a student for a study guide, or for help on a
topic covered in the module, or continuously turning my work on time, I expect
to be treated with care and concern by my professor. I feel like this is when
faculty customer service skills need to be turned on.

One thing that CCBC does to show
that students are its customer is by always providing up to date information to
students. I feel like CCBC does care about their students and their experiences,
and they do that because they want you to continue at their campus instead of choosing
somewhere else.

What factors lead to the differences, and are these important for a person in the field to recognize?

In response to my collegue post, what differences were there between the type of violence you discussed and the type of violence your peer discussed? Discuss the differences and explain your reasoning. What factors lead to the differences, and are these important for a person in the field to recognize?

Collegue post #1:
In this week’s discussion, we had been asked to read over 27 pages on Family Violence: Treatment of Perpetrators and Victims. In addition, we had been asked to research different types of domestic violence and to discuss what we had found on the topic. This is to include any surprising findings as well, if there were different forms of domestic violence found within different groups.
Domestic violence is a form of violence that tends to fall within the realm of domestic abuse or intimate partner violence. The violence itself can be defined as behaviors within a relationship that is used to gain/ establish or maintain power and control over an intimate partner and or family members. According to Huss (2014), domestic violence can be referred to as any form of violence and harassment within a close social relationship. This means that this form of violence can happen to all races, any age groups, sexual orientation, religion, and gender.
Throughout my military career, I have witnessed many different forms of domestic violence in and out of the military community. As a military leader I had witnessed physical violence, sexual violence, emotional violence (verbal), psychological violence, spiritual violence, cultural violence, as well financial abuse. What I was surprised to learn was that each form of abuse mentioned is a type of domestic violence. The one form of violence I chose to discuss was cultural violence. With concerns to domestic violence, cultural violence can be said to be the actions of individuals and institutions that have been influenced by the norms, values, language, and other cultural factors that are like pollen floating in the air during springtime, it is everywhere. Cultural factors are ingrained in us from the day we are born and can play a role in either ending or perpetuating violence. Meaning that in some countries and communities/ cultures (let’s say IRAN), violence against another man could be considered a serious offense and warrant a sentence of death, yet violence against an intimate partner (woman) is often seen as acceptable. With knowing that cultural norms can play a big part in what the culture considers to domestic violence, it is important to acknowledge the cultural norms that victims can bring with them. By acknowledging the norms, a mental health professional can further understand how a different culture experiences and views domestic violence.

Collegue Post : After doing an extensive amount of research, I learned a lot about the different types of domestic violence. We know about the common types of abuse like emotional and physical, but there is much more when we look into the different types. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone, between a man and a woman, woman and woman, or a man and a man. It also could happen to children or the elderly. A victim might be afraid to speak up due to fear, reactions of family and friends, victim-shaming, etc.

Discuss two team-building strategies from a human perspective as well as the impact of these strategies on team development from a management perspective.

Assignment Details
Teams can exist for a myriad of reasons; however, the development process will always be relatively the same. Understanding each of the stages is important because doing so will allow for an understanding of the process that the team must progress through when brought together for a common goal.
Discuss two team-building strategies from a human perspective as well as the impact of these strategies on team development from a management perspective.
