Brainstorm ideas related to the roles of others in your doctoral/dissertation journey. Use a personal perspective to recognize those who are impacting your journey and the direction, feedback, and support they are providing. Consider peers, friends, family, colleagues, college experts, etc. – perhaps those individuals you would mention is the acknowledgements section of your dissertation.

In the Module 5 assignment, you will complete and submit a paper on how you have grown as a leader so far in the doctoral/dissertation journey. You will use the Module 4 assignment to collect information and write a section of the leadership paper before finalizing it in Module 5.

Step 1. Brainstorm

Compose a 1- to 2-page paper discussing the role of others in your doctoral/dissertation journey and how they are impacting you as a doctoral student and a leader.

Writing proposals and writing persuasively

In this scenario you will outline a proposal for a presentation on “Social Media for Seniors” in
a professionally-formatted business letter. (For an example of an informal proposal in businessletter
format, see Ch. 12, 435-38.)
Norma Bates, the Community Life Coordinator at the Shady Acres Assisted Living Complex
in Mission, organizes a series of seminars for residents. Presenters receive a stipend of $175
for participating. Your Communications instructor has suggested you give a presentation on
social media to the residents. Since you could always use an extra $175 and the experience will
make a useful addition to your co-curricular record and résumé, you have agreed.
To be considered as a speaker in this seminar series you need to describe your intended
presentation in a letter to Ms. Bates. Your informal proposal should identify what you intend
to talk about and why this topic is relevant to the intended audience.
Most of the selderly people living at Shady Acres have experience using Facebook and many
have smartphones, but they are not very unfamiliar with the social media platforms favoured
by their children and grandchildren. This is where your expertise and familiarity is an asset.
Your goal will be to explain to this audience of seniors how two or three of the social media
platforms popular in 2022 work, and why younger generations prefer them to Facebook.
In your proposal to Ms. Bates make sure you cover the following:
1) Why it is important that seniors understand the social media platforms favoured by their
younger relatives.
2) How two or three of these online communities operate: When were they created? How
popular are they? What are their defining characteristics? (Comparing and contrasting with
Facebook might be a useful method of making connections here.)
3) Are you planning to advise your audience to join these social media platforms, or is it
sufficient that they know a little bit about them in order better to communicate with their
children and grandchildren?
4) What makes you a good candidate to deliver this presentation? This could be specific
background and training, or informal qualifications including personal familiarity with the
platforms under discussion and/or experience working or living with older generations.
5) Provide a brief description of one or two activities you might employ to engage the
attention of your audience and help them understand the material you’ll be presenting.
6) Finally, indicate the resources and equipment you will need from Shady Acres in order to
make your presentation a success.

individualized fitness program template

Students will design a 4-week training program that incorporates the following health-related fitness
components; cardiovascular, muscular strength/endurance, and flexibility. Using data from your fitness
labs, you will identify your profile, how you scored, and your normative rating. From these measures you
will develop a specific goal based on your needs and wants (remember, be as specific as possible). You
will then develop a 4-week program incorporating these components in a manner that utilizes the FITT
principle (Frequency, Intensity, Time, Type). For each week following week 1, you must explain how you
applied the progressive overload principle (how is it more challenging than the week before). When
providing intensity, be sure to identify what weight, intensity range, or HR range you plan to exercise at
This is not only a project, but your own personal log, so use it to keep track of your progress. ONCE
AGAIN BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE, about exercises, intensity, how many days a week your training, the
rest times, if you incorporated a warmup or cool down. After 4 weeks re-test yourself, see if you made
progress?

Money and Opportunity Costs Activity

Identify the kinds of things you purchase with your money. Now, think of as many alternative uses for your money as you can. If you have not done this often, begin doing it little by little, even for small purchases such as a pack of gum or can of soda.

How does this relate to opportunity costs?

How do your decisions relate to scarcity?

Analyze the relationship between your purchases and budget constraints.
How does this impact the circular flow model?

Explain your reasoning and show graphically, utilizing the circular flow model. You may use yourself as an example to demonstrate this in the circular flow model. Students may utilize Paint, Word (the shapes tool under Insert), OneNote (Draw tab), or hand-draw the model.

American History Progressive era (1900-1920)

Students will construct a well-organized thesis-based essay that integrates your interpretation of the primary sources listed in documents A-J. Students must also supplement these documents with readings from the American Yawp online textbook in order to demonstrate knowledge of the period referred to in the question.
Prompt: Evaluate the effectiveness of Progressive Era reformers and the federal government in bringing about reform at the national level. In your answer be sure to analyze the successes and limitations of these efforts in the period 1900-1920.
High scores will be earned only by essays that both cite key pieces of evidence from the documents and draw on outside knowledge of the period. For this assignment only you may cite sources referring to the documents listed below as well as the chapter from American Yawp for your additional research. The next two essays will require CMS (Chicago Manual of Style) citations which we will go over before then.
Note that this is the only essay in which primary sources are provided. If you chose to add in outside primary sources, it is completely acceptable. The reason I’ve provided primary sources for you in this assignment is so that you have examples to fall back on of different types of sources to use in future essays.

Meat scraps were also found being shoveled into receptacles from dirty floors where they were left to lie until again shoveled into barrels or into machines for chopping. These floors, it must be noted, were in most cases damp and soggy, in dark, ill-ventilated rooms, and the employees in utter ignorance of cleanliness or danger to health, expectorated at will upon them. In a word, we saw meat shoveled from filthy wooden floors, piled on tables rarely washed, pushed from room to room in rotten box carts, in all of which processes it was in the way of gathering dirt,
splinters, floor filth, and the expectoration of tuberculosis and other diseased workers.

Knowing as educators do that thousands of the city youth will enter factory life at an early age as early as the state law will permit; instructed as the modern teacher is as to youth’s requirements for normal mental and muscular development, it is hard to understand the apathy in regard to youth’s inevitable experience in modern industry. Are the educators, like the rest of us, so caught in admiration of the astonishing achievements of modern industry that
they forget the children themselves?

I believe in providing for direct nominations by the people, including therein direct presidential primaries for the election of delegates to the national nominating conventions… I believe in the election of United States senators by direct vote. Just as actual experience convinced our people that presidents should be elected (as they are now in practice, although not in theory) by direct vote of the people instead of by indirect vote through an untrammeled electoral college, so actual experience has convinced us that senators should be elected by direct vote of the people instead of indirectly through the various legislatures.

How can a man of President Wilson’s intelligence possibly delude himself into believing the extravagant claims which he makes on behalf of the Democratic legislative achievement? How many sincere progressives follow him in believing that this legislation has made the future clear and bright with the promise of best things? After every allowance has been made for his justifiable pride… there remains an ominous residue of sheer misunderstanding. Any man of President Wilson’s intellectual equipment who seriously asserts that the fundamental wrongs of a modern society can be easily and quickly righted as a consequence of a few laws… casts suspicion either upon his own sincerity or upon his grasp of the realities of modern social and industrial life.

[Suit was brought] by a father in his own behalf and . . . his two minor sons, one under the age of fourteen years and the other between the age of fourteen and sixteen years, employees in a cotton mill at Charlotte, North Carolina, to enjoin [stop] the enforcement of the act of Congress intended to prevent interstate commerce in the products of child labor. . . . The controlling question for this decision, is it within the authority of Congress in regulating commerce
among the states to prohibit the transportation in interstate commerce of manufactured goods, the product of a factory in which . . . children under the age of fourteen and sixteen years have been employed or permitted to work more than eight hours in any day, or more than six days in any week? In our view, the necessary effect of this act is purely a state authority. Thus, the act in a two-fold sense is repugnant to the Constitution. . . . [I]t not only transcends the authority delegated to Congress over commerce, but also exerts a power as to a purely local matter.

We are returning from war! The Crisis and tens of thousands of black men were drafted into a great struggle. For bleeding France and what she means and has meant and will mean to us and humanity and against the threat of German race arrogance, we fought gladly and to the last drop of blood; for America and her highest ideals, we fought in far-off hope; for the dominant Southern oligarchy entrenched in Washington, we fought in bitter resignation. For the America that represents and gloats in lynching, disfranchisement, caste, brutality and devilish insult, for this, in the hateful upturning and mixing of things, we were forced by vindictive fate to fight also. But today we return! . . . This country of ours, despite all its better souls have done and dreamed is yet a shameful land.

In a 3-5 page academic paper: 1) describe the organization; 2) declare the organizational strategies and intent/purpose of the compensation plan; and 3) present the components and justification of your compensation plan that enables this organization’s success. Include a minimum of two credible references that were used in your research. Employ the aforementioned “Guidelines for Writing Papers” instructions in the development of your work.

Malignant Hyperthermia

Support and reply to the following discussion board post from classmate using two references no later than 10 years old:
Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a critical emergency that can occur from common anesthesia medications used in surgery. MH is linked to a rare genetic musculoskeletal hypermetabolic disorder (Spruce, L., 2020). Currently the only way to definitively test for predisposition of developing MH is through genetic testing and muscle biopsy testing (Hommertzheim & Steinke, 2006). MH is very rare and therefore these tests are not easily assessable or frequently used to determine risk prior to surgery. The best way to evaluate risk for MH prior to surgery is through assessment of patient and family history, as the disorder is autosomal dominant. It is the perioperative nurse’s role to know the risk factors for MH as well as the triggers agents which include inhaled general anesthetics and succinylcholine (Spruce, L., 2020). If the patient is deemed a risk prior to surgery the triggering agents must be avoided, but all patients should be monitored throughout the operation for potential signs and symptoms. Despite the name malignant hyperthermia, elevated temperatures are a late sign, the early signs are elevated CO2 levels, rapid heart rate, rapid respiratory rate, muscle rigidity (Hommertzheim & Steinke, 2006). It is very important all surgical team members are vigilant of these early signs as they can be easily masked in the operative setting. Later signs include elevated temperature, EKG changes, and disseminated intravascular coagulation that can result in multisystem organ failure and death rigidity (Hommertzheim & Steinke, 2006). MH can occur at any time from the induction of the anesthetic agent up to 12 hours following the last administration. If MH is suspected it is critical that the anesthetic agent is stopped if it is still running, the patient is hyper-oxygenated, the emergency response is activated within the OR (or the PACU if the symptoms present late) and the reversal agent dantrolene is administered rapidly. The patient may experience rebound symptoms up to 24 hours after the onset of MH and therefore must remain under observation for 48-72 hours (Hommertzheim & Steinke, 2006). If a patient develops MH it is critical that following treatment and stabilization the patient and family is educated on the recurrent risk for any future procedure requiring general anesthesia.
