Is it clear that the photograph/image that you chose is appropriate to the concept?

GOALS
1. To evidence that you fully understand the theoretical concept
2. To evidence that you can apply these theoretical concepts to your everyday life.
3. To display creativity in your choice of how you apply these concepts to your photo.
COMPOSED OF THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS
1. A summary explanation of the theoretical concept.
This section should be a comprehensive but concise summary of the concept. Think of
this short section the following way: Imagine that you are going to visit my Soc 003 class
next quarter and teach the concept to that class. What needs to be understood? What is
relevant? This section of the paper should be no more than 2 paragraphs (8 sentences)
maximum.
2. A picture that reflects some essential qualities of the concept.
You will take a picture of something in your life that reflects this concept. You must take
the image yourself. The photos should get at some fundamental quality of the concept.
The photos must be appropriate for a college class, that is, no offensive material (your
paper receive zero points in this case).
3. An analysis that discusses the ways the photo reflects the concept.
The TAs will be looking to discern the extent to which you are able to connect the
sociological concept to current/everyday social life. What is your photo/image showing
that specifically displays the concept? Did you capture all of the dimensions of your
concept? Is it clear that the photograph/image that you chose is appropriate to the concept? These are all very important here. This section should be 3 paragraphs (12
sentences) maximum.

This document should be laid out as follows:
At the top left of the document include your name and your TAs name. Under that include the
photograph, which should take up about half of the page. Underneath that photo, include a three-
sentence maximum description of the photo. What is happening in the image? Explain to your
TA the who, what, when, and where of the photo (if you have an image of an object, you can
skip the who).
Underneath the picture description, include your two-paragraph summary of the concept After the summary, include your analysis of the photo.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
All papers should use 12pt Times New Roman Font with 1” margins.
Bibliography/references cited page not needed.
These papers must be one complete document, not a separate written and image document. If it is
not one complete document, it will not be graded.

What is the cause-specific mortality rate for injuries per 100,000 people and the case fatality rate (%) for injuries?

What is the sex ratio for total injuries?
What is the crude mortality rate per 100,000 people?
What is the cause-specific mortality rate for injuries per 100,000 people and the case fatality rate (%) for injuries?
Autism is a serious and lifelong disability that is characterized by a severely decreased ability to engage in communication and social interaction. In 1998 citizens in a New Jersey town were concerned about the number of children diagnosed with autism, and a study was undertaken to establish the prevalence in the community. Data from the study are reported below:
Age Category
Diagnosed with Autism
Number of Children in the Population
3-5
19
2,479
6-10
17
5,817
Calculate the prevalence rate of autism for these children for the two age categories.
Convert the prevalence rate to a rate per 1,000
You are working in a Health center which serves a population of 24,500 people. In the period from January to March you treat a total of 126 new cases of upper respiratory infection, and from April to June you treat a total of 60 new cases of respiratory infection.
Calculate the incidence of upper respiratory infection in January-March per 10,000 people and the incidence of upper respiratory infections in April-June per 10,000 people.
What may be some of the reasons that there is a change in the incidence?
Why are we measuring incidence rather than prevalence in this example?
In this same health center that serves a population of 24,500 people, you treat a number of people with asthma and with diabetes (Type II). Since they all come to the center for their medication at least once every two months, you count all the persons with asthma and all those with diabetes in the months of June and July. You find that during this time you have treated 45 people with asthma and 265 people with type II diabetes.
Calculate the prevalence of asthma and the prevalence of type II diabetes in this population per 10,000 people.
Why are we measuring prevalence instead of incidence in this example?
During an entire year approximately 4,000 people, both adults and children, come to your clinic to receive care. During that year, the diagnosis of diarrhea was made in 1500 people who came in to be seen for the problem.
What was the annual incidence of diarrhea in your clinic population that year per 1000 people?
Can you say that was the incidence of diarrhea for the whole city? Why or why not?
Among the 4,000 people who came into your clinic, half of them are adults. Among the adults, 150 of them have chronic arthritis.
What is the prevalence of arthritis among the adults who come your clinic per 1,000 people?
Describe the interrelationship between prevalence and incidence rates.
What types of information are found by using specific rates and adjusted rates? Why are they sometimes used instead of crude rates? Give some examples of each type of rate.
Calculate the infant mortality rate (per 1,000 live births) from the following data:
Number of infant deaths under 1 year in the United States during 1991 = 36,766
Number of live births during 1991 = 4,111,000
How did the infant mortality rate in 2013 compare with the infant mortality in 1991? (Use data from the textbook p. 73)
Calculate the crude birth rate (per 1,000 people) from the following data:
Number of live births during 1991 = 4,111,00
Population of the United States as of July 1, 1991 = 252,688,000
How did the crude birth rate in 2013 compare with the crude birth rate in 1991? (refer to textbook)
Calculate the general fertility rate (per 1,000 women aged 15-44) from the following data:
Number of live births during 1991 = 4,111,000
Number of women (15 to 44 years of age) in the United States as of July 1, 1991 = 59,139,00
How did the general fertility rate in 2013 compare with the general fertility rate in 1991? (refer to textbook)
What is the difference in fetal mortality rate and the perinatal mortality rate? How does race/ethnicity impact the perinatal mortality rate?
Using Figure 3-12 on page 73, compare the infant mortality rates in the United States from 2005 to 2013 based on the race and Hispanic origin of the mother.

Discuss at least one theory described in the chapter AND how it can/does apply to the lives of African Americans today?

Discuss at least one theory described in the chapter AND how it can/does apply to the lives of African Americans today?

“Critical Race Theory Critical Race Theory (CRT) was originally developed in the 1980s as part of legal studies examining civil rights (Crenshaw, 1988). Kimberlé Crenshaw developed this theory after noting the racial bias and inequalities found within the criminal justice system. One of the central ideas of CRT is that racism is infused into society. An example of this is the stereotype threat (Steele & Aronson, 1995), which suggests that even when there is no perpetrator of racism, individuals can be negatively impacted by it. In the case of stereotype threat, African Americans perform worse on tasks labeled as a measure of intelligence because of stereotypes suggesting that African Americans are deficient in this area. CRT also suggests that ideas like color-blindness (people stating that they do not notice race) and meritocracy (believing that individuals’ success is within their own power due to their abilities and talents) cover up underlying racial biases because they ignore the significance of race in the United States. Further, CRT discusses White privilege, the fact that being and/or appearing to be White is profitable and advantageous. Finally, CRT espouses that counter-storytelling communicating the stories of those who are oppressed and have different experiences from people who adhere to mainstream culture is an essential tool for identifying and breaking down racism. Elements of Critical Race Theory are found throughout Black psychology. Critical Race Psychology (CRP) combines CRT and critical psychology in order to understand race and racism as well as examine the social realities of oppression. CRP focuses on the examination of how institutions and other parts of society play a role in producing racial power. It does not focus on individuals engaging in racism, instead focusing on more widespread systemic racism. Within CRP, it is essential to examine the influence of the racial environment on individuals (Salter & Haugen, 2017). Furthermore, CRP suggests that mainstream psychology repeatedly manifests a worldview that is based on the perspective of European American, middle-class people, implying that is the real human experience. Because of this false perception of reality, research and theory concerning African Americans and other people of color are likely inaccurate. One major problem with traditional psychological research from a CRP perspective is that those in power typically middle-class European Americans set the standards for psychology and their ideas are being reproduced as the norm when they often do not consider race or racism. According to CRP, one must examine the influence of race and racism in order to understand the psychology of African Americans.”

What experiences/beliefs/viewpoints/arguments/etc. in the material have changed in today’s world?

Moving on from biological/sex versus gender differences, we’ve started looking at the history of women’s “movements” in America. There’re obviously thousands of years of historical info about women before this point, but we’re starting relatively recently and focusing solely on the U.S. – a very limited scope (but it’s all we have time for in this class). For this discussion, after you’ve completed the film and the readings for the week, consider the following:
What experiences/beliefs/viewpoints/arguments/etc. in the material have changed in today’s world? And what ones remain the same? Better? Worse? For Whom? Some better, but with trade-offs for others? What bias influences the perspectives?
Make sure you back up any claim you make with actual, sourced (you can always use prior week’s info, too!) evidence (cited, as we don’t want to rely on personal experiences!) and feel free to challenge each other to disagree – in a polite way, of course. It’s not important that you agree/disagree with each other; rather, it’s important that we’ve covered every angle possible in the Discussion (even if we have to play “devil’s advocate” to do so).

Do you think that applying operations management concepts and methods such as Six Sigma and lean principles can reduce U.S. healthcare costs?

After reading the assigned chapters, (Collier, D. A, & Evans, J. R. (2021). Operations and supply chain management (2nd ed.). reviewing the assigned presentations, and watching the assigned videos, please answer the following questions from the “Discussion Questions and Experiential Activities” section at the end of chapter 18:
Do you think that applying operations management concepts and methods such as Six Sigma and lean principles can reduce U.S. healthcare costs? Explain.

What are THREE competitive threats on the horizon that Starbucks should position against?

For the purposes of this case, please stick within the confines of the information contained in the case study. In the context of this case, Starbucks is experiencing some challenges. One of the main purposes of a case study is to place yourself within the role of leader. In business and life, we face the challenges of uncertain information.
Use your marketing skills, research, and experience to make TWO strategic recommendations for Starbucks based on information in the case. For example, if one of your recommendations is that Starbucks should create a customer loyalty program, don’t just say that Starbucks should have a customer loyalty program. Instead, talk about a company that has a successful customer loyalty program that Starbucks could emulate and explain why.
Given the information in the case and marketing best practices, what ONE THING should Starbucks change in order to achieve continued success?
What are THREE competitive threats on the horizon that Starbucks should position against? (For this question, feel free to use just the case information or also current information.
