Steps to Complete Week 5 Lab
Use the Weeks 3 and 5 spreadsheets from the Weeks 3 and 5 Lessons to help you answer the questions below.
Step 1: Your instructor will provide you with 10 values to use for this lab.
Gather 10 MORE of your own to add to the 10 provided by your instructor. Do the following:
Survey or measure 10 people to find their heights. Determine the mean and standard deviation for the 20 values by using the Week 3 Excel spreadsheet. Post a screen shot of the portion of the spreadsheet that helped you determine these values. How does your height compare to the mean (average) height of the 20 values? Is your height taller, shorter, or the same as the mean of the sample?
Data Example of 10 people with different heights
Data Example of 10 people with different heights
(your spreadsheet will have 20 values—10 from your instructor and 10 from your own data gathering).
Step 2: Give some background information on the group of people you used in your study. You might consider using the following questions to guide your answer.
How did you choose the participants for your study? What was the sampling method: systematic, convenience, cluster, stratified, simple random?
What part of the country did your study take place in?
What are the age ranges of your participants?
How many of each gender did you have in your study?
What are other interesting factors about your group?
Step 3: Use the Week 5 Excel spreadsheet for the following.
(Use the Empirical Rule tab from the spreadsheet). Determine the 68%, 95%, and 99.7% values of the Empirical Rule in terms of the 20 heights in your height study.
What do these values tell you?
Post a screen shot of your work from the Week 5 Excel spreadsheet.

Week 5 Spreadsheet Example
(Use the normal probability tab from the spreadsheet). Based on your study results, what percent of the study participants are shorter than you? What percent are taller than you?
Post a screen shot of your work from the Week 5 Excel spreadsheet.

Example: If my height is 73 inches, then 20.86% of the relevant population is shorter. The other 79.14%, of course, is taller.
Week 5 Spreadsheet Example
Step 4: Be sure your name is on the Word document, save it, and then submit it under “Assignments” and “Week 5: Lab”.
Grading
This activity will be graded based on the Week 5 Lab Rubric.

Explain how the various farming societies we learned about this week created “divisions of labor” within the society.

Look at files for more instructions.

Look CLOSELY at the lecture
notes, the reading called Slave Mode of Production and the document
called the Hamurrabi Code. Watch ALL the videos. We are learning
examples of the farming (herding) society in East Africa called the
Maasai (second video). We also learn about the origins of wheat and the
first farmers in the “fertile crescent.” We are studying ancient Egypt
in one video. Ancient India in another video. We also learn about how
the “divisions of labor” came about. Here is what to write about once
you have reviewed all this information. 7 paragraphs–at least. Any
format is fine (Chicago, MLA etc). Use the resources here, not outside
sources. I need to see that you have done the work.
Give examples of
how the various farming societies we learned about this week created
“divisions of labor” within the society. Were these divisions of labor
oppressive? Were the useful for helping to advance production and the
common good? Use ALL the vocab words in this week’s “Notes” which are
attached in your essay. Look up the definitions to use them in your
essay so that you know what they mean.

Explain why the statistical test is most appropriate for analyzing the data and whether the assumptions were met.

The chi-square test of independence is used to determine whether two or more samples of cases differ on a nominal level variable. A Pearson correlation is used to determine the relationship between two continuous variables. Both the chi-square test of independence and correlation are widely used in the analysis of public health data.
The purpose of this assignment is to practice calculating and interpreting the Pearson correlation coefficient and a chi-square test of independence. After analyzing the data, communicate the results in a PowerPoint presentation. Refer to the Using and Interpreting Statistics: A Practical Text for the Behavioral, Social, and Health Sciences textbook and instructional videos for assistance completing this assignment.
Part 1
Use SPSS and the Topic 2 “Health Behavior Data Set” and complete the following:
Conduct a Pearson correlation to determine the relationship between age and annual income.
Conduct a chi-square test to determine the relationship between sex and smoking status.
Export the SPSS output for the Pearson correlation and chi-square tests.
Part 2
Create an 8-10 slide PowerPoint to discuss the findings for either the chi-square or correlation findings. For the presentation of your PowerPoint, use Loom to create a voice-over or a video. Refer to the topic resources for additional guidance on recording your presentation with Loom. Include an additional slide for the Loom link at the beginning, and an additional slide for references at the end.
Include the following:
Explain why the statistical test is most appropriate for analyzing the data and whether the assumptions were met.
What are the null and alternative hypotheses?
What is the decision rule?
What is the test statistic and p-value?
How do you interpret the results? (What was done? What was found? What does it mean? What suggestions are there for the creation of a health promotion intervention?)
General Requirements
Submit the SPSS exported output and the PowerPoint to the dropbox.
APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. A link to the LopesWrite technical support articles is located in Class Resources if you need assistance.

Explain and examine the movement and specific work in relation to historical and political influences of the movement.

Explain and examine the movement and specific work in relation to historical and political influences of the movement.
Identify characteristics of the movement and how the work reflects these characteristics.
