medical education in the future.Assignment CHANGES IN MEDICAL EDUCATION
Introduction
Throughout
the ages there have been many landmark studies, reports and events that
have changed the course of history in medicine and medical education.
You will read this week that it was the Flexner Report (1910) that
reformed medical education and brought it to where it is today (Young
& Kroth, 2018). This report was the catalyst that pushed for
legislation requiring physicians to be licensed. The report called for
formalizing medical education and increasing the length of time in
structured, formal medical programs. This report has influenced medical
education and licensing for all of the many different types of clinical,
technical, and administrative health care disciplines of today.

Scenario
Imagine
you are a medical apprentice in the 1800s. Envision your medical
training during this era under the apprenticeship model. Jump to 1960s
and envision your training under the academic model. Finally, think of
what your medical school training might look like today.
Of
particular interest for today’s training are the many technology
innovations for learning in medical schools, including augmented reality
(AR), virtual reality (VR), robotic-assisted surgery, and minimally or
noninvasive procedure technologies. Today’s training features remote
patient monitoring (RPM) and telemedicine through a virtual model of
care (VMC), as well as learning to use the human genome for more
accurate diagnosing and patient-specific treatments.
Using
the Changes in Medical Education Template [DOC], write a 3–4 page paper
to analyze the scope of change in medical education from the 1800s to
today, the apprenticeship and academic models, and the importance of
understanding the history in order to help improve medical education in
the future. Be sure to complete all parts of the template. Do the
following:
Research
the history of medical education from the 1800s, 1960s, early 2000s,
and today. Use the History of Health Care Research tab in the Health
Care Administration Undergraduate Library Research Guide to guide your
research process.
You will need to include four references in your paper, one of which can be your textbook.
Use the course resources provided for the remaining references, or locate your own resources.
Write an introduction to your paper.
Include a brief explanation of the purpose of the paper and its main ideas.
In
The Changing Scope of Medical Education section of the assignment
template, analyze the scope of the changes in medical education from
the 1800s to today.
How widespread are the newer technologies impacting medical training?
Have there been mandated changes or have there been cultural changes that have impacted medical education?
In
the Apprenticeship Model vs. Academic Model section of the assignment
template, compare and contrast the apprenticeship and academic models of
medical education in the 1800s, 1960s, 2000s, and today.
Describe the apprenticeship model and the academic model.
Compare and contrast the similarities and differences in their features.
Analyze
how the models have evolved over time and the impact the evolution of
these models has had on the quality of patient care.
In the
Importance of Understanding History of Medicine section of the
assignment template, explain the importance of understanding the history
of medical education in order to help improve medical education in the
future.
Write a conclusion to your paper in which you summarize the main themes you addressed.
Cite
all the resources you used in your paper in APA format. Refer to

style.
Additional Requirements
Your paper should be 3–4 pages, in addition to the title page and references page.
Double space and use Times New Roman, 12-point font, as is provided in the template.
Use a minimum of four resources, including the textbook and other course resources.
Respond to all parts of the template, using the headings provided.
Support all points with credible evidence, in the form of APA citations.
Include a references page in APA format with appropriate citations.

What significance does the theater have in terms of Maggie’s development through the story?

In what ways might one perceive Maggie as confined by her environment? How is Maggie’s potential confinement similar to/different from Edna’s confinement?
Why is the theater so inspiring and thought-provoking for Maggie? What significance does the theater have in terms of Maggie’s development through the story?
While both Maggie and “The Yellow Wall-paper” reveal environmental effects, the point-of-view also plays a major role. In what way(s) does the first-person, diary-like POV in “The Yellow Wall-paper” contribute to the effectiveness of the story in terms of showing us the effects of environment on the narrator?
In London’s “To Build a Fire,” we find a main character who struggles—quite literally—against nature and his environment. Does the narrator seem to have any more control over his fate than the other protagonists in the Naturalist unit? Why?/Why not?
In “Why I Wrote ‘The Yellow Wall-paper,” Gilman explains her personal connections to the fictional short story but explains that, in “The Yellow Wall-paper,” there were “embellishments and additions to help carry out the ideal” and that she “never had hallucinations or objections to [her] mural decorations” (856). Discuss 1-2 such “embellishments” or “additions” and explain how they help to “carry out the ideal” that Gilman spells out in “Why I Wrote ‘The Yellow Wall-paper’”.

Identify the components involved in the NIMS and ICS protocols and explain how they relate to each of the 4 phases of emergency management.

When multiple agencies collaborate during times of crisis, it is critical for the success of the disaster response that communication follows the 4 phases of emergency management (mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery). In this assignment, you’ll analyze how components of NIMS (National Incident Management System) and ICS (Incident Command System) protocols help consistently facilitate these phases.

Write an 875- to 1,050-word paper on the importance of NIMS and ICS in interagency communication and collaboration as they relate to the 4 phases of emergency management. Address the following in your paper:
Identify the components involved in the NIMS and ICS protocols and explain how they relate to each of the 4 phases of emergency management.
Discuss the components involved with effective interagency communication and collaboration in the NIMS and ICS protocols during each of the 4 phases of emergency management.
Describe the impact that U.S. presidential disaster declarations have on the initiation of the NIMS and CIS protocols and, in turn, on the communication, collaboration, and interoperability within government agencies.

Describe major compromises such as the Great Compromise and the 3/5 Compromise made at the Constitutional Convention. Finally, discuss the debate over the Constitution’s ratification.

How was the new Constitution better than the Articles of Confederation? Consider the economic, political, and diplomatic problems and new powers that were granted to deal with them. Describe major compromises such as the Great Compromise and the 3/5 Compromise made at the Constitutional Convention. Finally, discuss the debate over the Constitution’s ratification. How did the debate over Hamilton’s financial policies illustrate the different interpretations of the Constitution held by the Federalists and Jeffersonian Republicans in the 1790’s?

What is the best solution to Visnas situation based strictly on the theory of utilitarianism?

Utilitarianism may seem cold and calculating however, it can be useful in making moral choices. Read the case listed below and discuss the question that follows it. Be sure to review the instructions on completing online discussion which can be found under the content tab Start Here!
Visnas Dilemma: For months doctors told eleven-year-old Visna and her parents that her abdominal pains were nothing but indigestion. Then in July 1998 the truth finally emerged: Visna was twenty-seven weeks pregnant. Visna, her parents and her sixteen year-old brother had emigrated from India to the Detroit suburb of Sterling Heights, Michigan, only the previous summer. After discovering she was pregnant Visna revealed that her brother had raped her. As soon as Visnas parents discovered her condition, they made plans to take her to Kansas for abortion. Visna would have to have a late-term abortion, and because Michigan law bans almost all abortions after twenty-four weeks, her family would have to take her out of state. However, their plans were frustrated when a family court judged pressed charges of parental negligence against her parents, and the court removed Visna from her family, becoming a ward of the state. At a court hearing, Visnas doctor argued that if her pregnancy were allowed to continue, it could cause her both physical and psychological damage. A psychologist testified that, because Visna was a Hindu, if she were forced to have an illegitimate child, it would make her unfit for marriage by another Hindu. Her parents expressed worries that if Visna had the child it might suffer from genetic abnormalities and mental retardation, because her brother would be the father. Abortion opponents made public arguments, begging her not to have an abortion. Money was offered to let the pregnancy proceed and they promised to find someone to adopt the baby. They considered it irrelevant that the child was conceived as a result of rape or incest.

Morally, what is the best solution to Visnas situation based strictly on the theory of utilitarianism? Consider the arguments presented on both sides of the issue. I know this is a tough case but it is a real situation that occurred and choices had to be made. Keep in mind that utilitarianism is a moral theory and moral theories have little to do with emotions…..while you may disagree or agree with abortion you will need to make an argument using utilitarianism to support your decision for Visnas. You may want to do some research to help make your argument stronger….for example if you want to argue against the abortion based on beliefs in Hinduism you might want to research how Hinduism views abortion. You will want around 2 paragraphs for your initial response to the question asked. You will then need to respond to 2 classmates. These responses should be reviews so you want to evaluate their work, point out good responses, ask questions ect. Your responses should be around paragraph each.

Explain what you hope to learn from your proposed observational study.

Health issue: Pertussis
Post a comprehensive observational study design proposal for your chosen topic. Your answer should include your responses to the following questions:
State your research question, and identify whether it is a case-control study or cohort study.
Explain what you hope to learn from your proposed observational study.
Identify your independent (exposure) and dependent (outcome; health issue) variables. Note: You may have more than one independent variable for a case-control study and more than one dependent variable for a cohort study.
Explain how you will measure your variables.
Identify the participants of your proposed observational study. Be as specific as possible regarding their characteristics.
If you chose a case-control study design, explain your selection criteria for cases and controls. Justify why you selected a case-control study design. Identify the measure of association for your study.
If you chose a cohort study, explain the type of cohort study you have selected. Justify why you selected a cohort study design. Identify the measure of association for your study.
