HISTORICAL REVIEW PAPER: WORLD WAR II
Historical
Review Paper: World War II Assignment Overview
The Historical Review Papers will look
at several historical events important in American and world history vital for
national security. For national security professionals, understanding and
analyzing history correctly is an imperative. From that historical analysis
important lessons can be acquired. Not surprisingly, worldviews are an
important aspect of historical analysis–even definitions of words to include the
definition and belief in facts. Each worldview looks at history differently.
Some of the more common worldviews are: Secularism, Postmodernism, Marxism, and
the biblical/Judeo-Christian worldview. For example, some worldviews may
practice historical revisionism which is deleterious to accurate historical
analysis.
In this paper, the focus will be on two
World War II events: Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Midway. Everyone has some
knowledge about these events, but it is likely that you will learn some things
you did not know before and have a deeper understanding of the historical
events. More importantly, this will be an exercise in discernment and critical
thinking skills that are very practical in either the academic or professional
field of national security. In addition, you need to look at the various key
actors (e.g., both the Japanese and the U.S.).

either learned or not learned from one of these historical events and
substantiate your answer with sufficient rationale.
4. Describe
the importance of a biblical or Judeo-Christian worldview when it comes to the
study of history (and its analysis) and compare it to at least one other

Sociology 402: Reflective Reviews
These assignments ask you to reflect critically upon the course materials by commenting on the
readings from each unit. In 2 pages (double-spaced), perform these tasks in order:
1. In the first page, summarize what you believe to be the most compelling, most intriguing,
or otherwise most important claim(s) that you have seen in the readings.
2. Then critically reflect upon those claims. Do you agree with them? Disagree? Why?
Explain your reasoning while drawing on the content from the unit’s readings.
Step 1 is largely about summarizing what you have found. This could be one or more
claims shared by multiple authors. Or it could be an argument from a particular author that you
thought was especially impactful. Alternatively, it could be one that has been highly influential,
but that you feel skeptical towards. In any of these scenarios, the first step is to give a fair and
accurate reflection of what the readings are telling us. However, try to pick priorities wisely.
Focus on those claims that you find the most central, valuable, interesting, etc., rather than on
giving a detailed summary of entire articles in this short space.
Step 2 asks, what do you make of those readings? This is where you take a stance on the
quality of their contributions and then lay out your case. In so doing, you may use any of a
variety of arguments to support your comments, such as discussion of the strengths of the studies
in question, their weaknesses, an example or two for illustration, points of contradiction and/or
consistency, or overlaps between articles.
Top marks will be awarded to submissions that are (in order of priority)
• Clear: The wording and sentence structure is understandable.
• Correct: There are no obvious errors or misinterpretations of the readings or lectures. Nor
is it evident that have you may have missed some of the assigned readings.
• Coherent: There is a logical flow from one thought to the next.
• Compelling: The portrayal of what you are arguing and why is persuasive and/or
insightful, based on the material you have learned.
• Concise: Focus is on information pertinent to the broader argument.
For full marks, also make sure your submission comprises
• No more than 2 pages, double-spaced and numbered
• 12-point Times New Roman font
• 1-1.25 inches on each margin
Finally, here are additional protocols to follow.
• Be sparing on the use of quotes, especially long and/or block quotes.
• The work you submit must be your own. Please follow the rules on academic integrity.
• Make sure to properly cite any materials you choose to use, e.g., “Mackenbach (2014)
explains how…” A references page is only necessary if you use additional materials.
Neurologic System & Mental Health: Case Study Discussion
Neurologic System & Mental Health: Case Study Discussion
Read the case study below and answer the questions provided. Comment on 2 of your peers’ submissions.
A 73-year-old woman is brought to your clinic by her husband for a chief complaint of “worsening memory loss.” She is a retired teacher who has recently been getting lost in her own subdivision. She has lived in the same house for 30 years. Neighbors have brought her back home on several occasions. When questioned, she becomes visibly upset and reports that she was only “trying to exercise.” Her husband reports that she has also had increasing difficulty managing her finances and has overdrawn her checking account on several occasions. A physical examination was performed and was normal except that she scored 12 points out of 30 on the Mini-Mental State Examination. Work-up was ordered to assess for causes of confusion. A CT scan was ordered and revealed generalized brain atrophy, but this was possibly within normal parameters expected for her age. She is diagnosed with dementia, likely from Alzheimer’s disease.
Questions:
What are some alternate causes for confusion that would have been ruled out?
Where in the brain are neuritic plaques most prominent in Alzheimer’s disease and how does that explain the patient’s symptoms?
What role does amyloid beta-peptide, the major protein in neuritic plaques, play in Alzheimer’s disease?
Would you recommend genetic testing to determine risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease to the patient’s children? Why or why not?
Search for a peer-reviewed article regarding Alzheimer’s disease and discuss the findings of the articles with your peers.
Professional Organizations
Professional Organizations Assignment Overview
As the field of Student Affairs continues to expand in order to meet the needs of a diverse student population, professionals need to learn, develop, and grow in a variety of areas. Professional Organizations are a great way to stay current in the field while networking and growing professionally.
For this two-part assignment, you will first research various Student Affairs organizations and memberships to determine common trends, benefits, and resources. For the second part of the assignment, you will synthesize the information through a professional application summary.
Part 1: Complete the provided Professional Organizations Template by exploring a minimum of eight official websites of Student Affairs organizations and professional memberships of your choosing. As you fill out each section of the template, be careful to report your findings thoroughly and accurately. Each selected Student Affairs organization or professional membership should include a full hyperlinked web address to the specific page where the information was accessed.
Part 2: After completing Part 1 of the Professional Organizations Template, complete Part 2 by providing a 300-400-word Professional Application summary of your findings in current APA format. The summary should discuss your observations in comparing and contrasting Student Affairs organizations and professional memberships, which one you would become a member of and why, as well as a strong conclusion with a succinct recommendation for why Student Affairs professionals should engage in regular professional development. You must, at minimum, answer the question prompts provided in the Professional Application section of the template but should add additional content and information based upon what was learned.

Discuss what other cities have done (e.g., New York) and explain how the market reacted and why.
Scenario
In November 2014, Berkeley, California became the first city in the United States to pass a soda tax, implementing a penny-per-ounce tax on sugar-sweetened beverages (Isidore, 2014). The tax resulted in a 21 percent decline in consumption of soda and other sweetened beverages in Berkeley’s low-income neighborhoods. Taxed beverages included Coca Cola, Sprite, Red Bull, and Arizona Iced Tea. Berkeley residents reported increasing their bottled and tap water consumption by 63 percent. Isidore (2014) indicated this to be an “excise tax,” paid by sugary drink distributors and reflected in shelf prices.
According to Kaplan (2016), three months after the soda tax was launched, 47 percent of the penny-per-ounce tax on sugar-sweetened beverages was passed along to consumers; and for soda, 69 percent of the tax was passed along to consumers in the form of higher prices. Kaplan’s report estimated that the tax added about $0.12 to the price of a can of soda, and $0.68 to the price of a two-liter bottle.
Research the issue further by obtaining one or more articles from the WCU online library and the Internet. Then, respond to the following in a one- to two-page paper in APA Style.
Use the information in the article you found in your research to estimate the cross elasticity of demand for water with respect to the price of sugar-sweetened drinks.
How does the total revenue test work for a rise in price? What do you predict happened to total revenue from sugar-sweetened drinks when the tax was imposed on them? Explain your response.
Would you expect the elasticity of demand for Coke, Gatorade, Red Bull, or Hawaiian Punch to be the same as the elasticity of demand for sugar-sweetened drinks? Explain why or why not.
Discuss what other cities have done (e.g., New York) and explain how the market reacted and why.
