Explain whether you agree with Lord Macaulay’s comments regarding the introduction of a ‘Good Samaritan’ law.

In general …
the penal law must content itself with keeping men from doing positive harm,
and must leave to public opinion, and to the teachers of morality and religion,
the offence of furnishing men with motives for doing positive good. [T]o
attempt to punish men by law for not rendering to others all the service which
it is their [moral] duty to render to others would be preposterous.

Lord Macaulay,
The Works of Lord Macaulay Complete (Lady Trevelyan ed, Longmans, Green
and Co. 1866) vol 7, 497

Explain whether you agree with Lord Macaulay’s comments regarding the introduction of a ‘Good Samaritan’ law.

In answering
this question, you should:

(a)
Explain
the general rule regarding liability for an omission to act.

(b)
Demonstrate
knowledge of the exceptions to the general rule.

(c)
Analyse
whether the law should criminalise a general failure to act when others are in
need of rescue.

(d)
Explain
your conclusion as to whether you agree with Lord Macaulay that introducing a
‘Good Samaritan’ law would be ‘preposterous’.

What can Zachary recommend in his report to adapt (a proactive approach) and hold off the competition with Tesla in the electric car market?

Volkswagen—the world’s 2nd largest automaker (Toyota is #1) with its VW, Audi, Bentley, Porsche, and Lamborghini brands—by itself plan to launch 50 EV models and achieve annual EV sales of three million units by 2025.
However, despite potential bumps in the road, Tesla continues its journey from upstart niche to full mass-market brand. It is further diversifying its vehicle portfolio with self-driving EV semi-trucks and the new Cyberstruck slated for 2021—one that promises to shatter more records for speed, acceleration, range, and coolness.
Simulated Business Scenario:
Since Tesla started selling automobiles, Zachary, Tesla’s CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) has guided the brand to go further and faster than any other vehicle startup in history. He has created the image that Tesla is to cars what Apple has long been to consumer electronics, with the same kind of innovative products and cult brand following. With an ever-changing business environment, Zachary is being asked to create a report detailing a strategy to remain agile and ahead of the competition.
Questions:
How have technology, natural, and cultural macro-environmental forces impacted Tesla?
What can Zachary recommend in his report to adapt (a proactive approach) and hold off the competition with Tesla in the electric car market?

Explain whether you feel that this standard is appropriate, and be sure to support your opinion.

The case of Terry v. Ohio provided police with a way to “stop” and/or “frisk” individuals without a warrant and based on “reasonable suspicion” that is less than probable cause. Explain whether you feel that this standard is appropriate, and be sure to support your opinion. Finally, provide a factual example (real of fictional) of a situation in which police properly “stopped” or “frisked” based on the criteria set out in Terry v. Ohio.
As in all of your main discussion posts, be sure to support your comments with at least one APA formatted reference, adding citations to your discussion where appropriate.

Term Paper Part 1 Instruction
As stated on the Syllabus, one major graded assignment for the course is a term
project, which contains three parts. The purpose of this assignment is for you to get
experience with the overall process of conducting scientific, experimental research.
The research topic for the Term Paper is intervention activities can increase one’s
happiness level. With this research topic in mind, the instruction below is for Part 1-
Literature Review.
1. Content of the Paper: This literature review is also called an introduction
section for your final research paper. In this part, you will be required to read
relevant research on the provided research topic. I have listed out some
empirical journal articles for your reference. Please check the Term Paper
Journal Articles section in the course module. You will need to summarize and
connect the findings from the empirical research articles, critique them, and then
use them to support an argument for why a study should/need to be done. The
argument you write will need to be organized and concise, while showing
competency for interpreting research articles.
Basically, I would like you to explore the related intervention variables which can
boost happiness. These variables include but not limit to:
Counting one’s blessings
Performing acts of kindness
Using one’s strength in a new way
Writing letters of gratitude
Writing one’s Best Possible Self (BPS)
Volunteering
Eventually we will narrow down these listed variables to two (say writing
letters of gratitude and writing one’s BPS) and design an experimental two-
way ANOVA study, which is the second part of this term paper.
2. References: The paper should include 6 or more references; all should be from
reputable scholarly sources and at least 4 of your references must primarily
contain reports of empirical research. No secondary sources may be included.
You can use the journal articles I provided in the course module, or you can
search and find other related or similar journal articles on this happiness
research topic.
3. Format: The paper should be in APA format, double-spaced in MS Word with
12 pt. Times New Roman font and 1” margins on all 4 sides.
4. Direct quotations: You should keep the number of direct quotations to a
minimum, no more than four or five. Use them only where the exact wording of
the original is important. Citations and direct quotations must be in APA format.
5. Length: Your paper should be 5-7 pages long (this includes your title page but
reference pages).
6. When to submit the paper: Submit the paper during the Week of 9 (03/07-
03/13), with a deadline of 03/13, 11:59PM.
** Important: Please allocate your time accordingly and make couples of
changes before your submission by the due date of 03/13.
7. Where to submit the paper: Submit your paper online to the Term Paper
Assignment Submission Folder, which can be found from the top tool bar
Activities – Assignments – Term Paper Part 1. In addition, you need to submit
the same paper to Ms. McLane’s lab module for grading
s three parts. The purpose of this assignment is for you to get
experience with the overall process of conducting scientific, experimental research.
The research topic/question for the Term Paper is intervention activities can increase
one’s happiness level. With this research question in mind, Part 2 instruction is listed
below.

2. Method
In this section, please address Participants, Design, Materials, and Procedure.
a) Participants: we will have 24 participants total.
Please describe the relevant details of the participants, including
demographic information of the participants, how the participants were
selected and assigned to the study conditions.
b) Design: It should be a two-way (2×2) ANOVA experimental research. Please
address the dependent variable, i.e., happiness in this study, and provide
operational definition of happiness.
Define the two independent variables (IVs) and describe the levels of each of
the two IVs.
For the two independent variables, as I mentioned in Term Paper Part 1,
please choose from the list below:
Counting one’s blessings
Performing acts of kindness
Using one’s strength in a new way
Writing letters of gratitude
Writing one’s Best Possible Self (BPS)
Volunteering
c) Materials: Describe what instrument and materials were used in this study.
For measurement of Happiness, as I mentioned for Term Paper Part 1, we
will use Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ, 2002).
Hill, P., & Argyle, M. (2002). The Oxford Happiness Questionnaire: A compact
scale for the measurement of psychological well-being. Personality and
Individual Differences, 33(7), 1073-1082.
In this section, you should give a detailed account of OHQ, i.e., how many
items it includes, how it scores, and one or two examples of the questionnaire
items. In addition, describe in detail what materials you had used for the two
IVs.
d) Procedure: Please provide detailed information on what the participants
experienced in the study, what instructions were given to the participants,
tasks performed by the participants, and how the participants were assigned
to the conditions.
3. Results
In this section, please state the dependent variable analyzed and the tests used
to analyze it. Make statements about the results, indicating differences or
relationships found, with statistical values to support it.
Make sure to report the two main effects, interaction effect, and include a graph
for the result.
Here are the simulated data for this study. In this set of data, the two
independent variables are Writing Letters of Gratitude and Writing One’s Best
Possible Self (BPS). Each of the two IVs has two levels – either writing or not.
You can change the independent variables based on your design, but I hope you
will use this set of data. If you have SPSS or JASP, please go ahead run the
ANOVA results. Meanwhile, I will provide the SPSS output for this data set.

Activities – Assignments – Term Paper Part 2. In addition, you need to

Describe the impact of the SNU Professional Studies experience on your values and understanding of truth.

Part I: Worldview and Values (2 – 3 pages)
In this section you should begin by explaining what a worldview is and why it is important. Next you should talk about your own worldview. For instance, are you a theist, a naturalist, or something else? If you are not sure explain why. Then you should describe your own worldview assumptions clearly and concisely using James Sire’s eight assumptions as a model. It is essential that you provide a description of your own personal assumptions and not just talk about worldview assumptions in general. If you wish and you have the space, you may also want to discuss James Hunter’s conception of the moral compasses.
Part II: Life Experiences: Family and Friends (3 – 4 pages)
No one grew up in a vacuum. Each person was part of a real family, in a real community, in a real country, at a particular point in time. Honestly reflect on the persons and events that have shaped your values and your understanding of truth. You may want to compare and contrast your upbringing with the Loman family, reflect on Kohlberg’s theory of moral development, or draw from both sources.
Part III: Life Experiences: Work and Organizations (3 – 4 pages)
Compare and contrast your personal values with the organizational norms and values of past and present contexts (work, church, volunteer, etc.). You may want to use the Harvard Business Review articles to jump-start your discussion. Critically reflect upon your participation in these environments and ask yourself: To what extent have these organizational cultures changed me? To what extent have I changed them?
Part IV: Life Experiences: The SNU Professional Studies Program (2 – 3 pages)
Describe the impact of the SNU Professional Studies experience on your values and understanding of truth. You may want to mention specific courses, discussions, classmates, or instructors when piecing this section together.
Part V: The Future (2 – 3 pages)
The last part of the paper focuses on where you’re headed. You may want to describe short-term and long-term goals and how they’re connected. Please do not list your goals in a list or bulleted format.

Identify at least one conflict in the story and describe how it is resolved or treated.

answer the following:
Characters: Who are the main and sub characters? What are their names, gender, occupations, characteristics, relationships to one another, conflicts among characters, etc.? [Describe each character as in detailed as possible to show that you have read the reading, otherwise you cannot get full marks.]

Point of View/Narrator: Which point of view is used (first person, second person, or third person)?; Who is narrating the story?
Setting: When and where is the action of the story occurring? Any outstanding historical references (events, people, etc.)? If you can identify/assume the setting from the text, how?
Conflict(s): Identify at least one conflict in the story and describe how it is resolved or treated.
Theme(s): What is the main theme (s) of the story? Identify at least one main theme and develop it into a more complexed one.
Identify one scene in which the theme is appearing the most (the page number is required); And describe how the theme is appearing in the scene.
What/Which scene stood out to you most in the story? And why?
Identify one literary/visual technique[1] used in the work (the page number is required) that is interesting to you. And what kind of literary/visual effect does it give you (or readers)?

[1] Literary/visual technique includes, for example, imagery, motifs, symbols, figurative languages; music, camera work, editing techniques, mise-en-scene; speech bubbles, panel layouts, facial expressions; and any other formalistic elements.

Describe the project that you were working on, including the people involved.

Consider your experiences at work, school, and in your personal
life. You have, at some point, been asked to work with a group to
achieve a particular goal. It might have been a group research project, a
new marketing plan, a learning plan, a schedule to roll out new
technology, planning a wedding, or even planning and creating a large
family meal. In many collaborative efforts like these, there are
disagreements. Select one collaborative experience from your past that
involved some disagreements or significant differences of opinion.
Write a short (2-page) paper in APA style discussing the following elements:
Describe the project that you were working on, including the people involved.
Explain the problem that you encountered with the
group. How was that problem overcome? What was the end result of
encountering and dealing with that problem?
What do you think was the cause of the problem?
How much of the problem came from miscommunication, either from you or
from other people involved? What did you do to help resolve the
problem?
If you were able to relive that experience, how
would you change the way that you approached the encountered problem?
How would you communicate differently?
How, ultimately, was the conflict resolved?
