1.1 Describe features of inclusive teaching and learning

 Define the term ‘inclusion’ (PG: 58-60)
 Describe features of inclusion. How can a teacher or trainer create an inclusive teaching
environment?
For example: Ice breakers (PG: 98-100), ILP’s (PG: 60), individual questions to learners, group
work (PG: 130-134), promoting ground rules (PG: 101-102), learning environment (PG:25-27)
 Explain a minimum of two teaching and learning theories which promote ‘inclusion’.
For example: Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs (PG: 32-33), Fleming (VARK) (PG: 39-40), Kolb’s
Experiential Learning Cycle (PG: 44), Roger’s Humanist Theory (PG: 45), Skinner’s Behaviourist
Theory (PG: 46)
 Explain the theory, how does it relate to teaching?
 If you are already teaching, how does the theory relate to your current teaching practice?
(optional)

1.3 Explain why it is important to provide opportunities for learners to develop their English,
mathematics, ICT and wider skills
 Explain why it is important for teachers/trainers to promote opportunities for learners to
promote their functional skills. (PG: 84-95)
 Include current or future teaching practice examples how you as a teacher/trainer can
promote learners’ literacy, language, numeracy and ICT (digital skills) within your own
subject specialism. (PG: 84-95)

2.1 Explain why it is important to create an inclusive teaching and learning environment
 Explain a minimum of three reasons why it is important for teachers/trainers to promote an
inclusive teaching and learning environment.
For example: To promote equality, fairness, respect, support for all learners, to support
different learning styles (VARK), reputation as a teaching organisation, Maslow (removing
barriers to learning)

2.2 Explain why it is important to select teaching and learning approaches, resources and
assessment methods to meet individual learner needs
 Explain three reasons why it is important to select and promote a variety of teaching and
learning approaches, resources and assessment methods within teaching.
 Why is it important to meet individual learning needs?

2.3 Explain ways to engage and motivate learners
 Explain why it is important to engage and motivate learners within education and training.
 Explain a minimum of five ways that you as a teacher can engage/motivate learners.

For example: To promote games/activities/quizzes, passion/enthusiasm for your subject, promote
active learning, have a varied teaching style, demonstrate up to date subject knowledge, praise,
rewards for learners, targets, ILPs.

2.4 Summarise ways to establish ground rules with learners
 Explain the term ‘ground rules’ within education and training (PG:100-102).
 Explain why ground rules are important within teaching and training.
 When should ground rules be created?
 Include any teaching examples where you have set your own ground rules (optional).

Learner’s reflection on completing the unit:
What have you learnt/refreshed from this unit?

How might it influence your teaching?
