Between 1700 and 1763, many British observers remarked on what they saw as the growing cultural, economic, social, and political differences between themselves and the colonial subjects across the Atlantic. For these British observers, the colonials were becoming more American and less British with every passing year. What major cultural, economic, social, and political trends may have contributed to this process of Americanization?

QUESTIONS
1) Between 1700 and 1763, many British observers remarked on what they saw as the growing cultural, economic, social, and political differences between themselves and the colonial subjects across the Atlantic. For these British observers, the colonials were becoming more American and less British with every passing year. What major cultural, economic, social, and political trends may have contributed to this process of Americanization? Make sure you use specific examples in your analysis!
2) While some colonials in what became the United States embraced an increasingly British identity, as if they were part of a growing “Greater Britain,” others increasingly embraced an independent identity as “Americans.” Still others adopted the idea of being “American” either because the idea of being British was never really an option or because the British saw them as so alien and “other” that a non-British/American identity was inevitable. The question is how would you break up these groups? To what extent did religion, class, race, economics, geographic location, etc. contribute to why a colonial or group of colonials would see themselves as more British or more independently “American”? Make sure you use specific examples in your analysis!
