BICYCLE THIEVES - Strictly Writing

Your second assignment on Bicycle Thieves is due on January 20. To review, you will be writing on anything that interests you about this film…the themes, story, Italian Neorealism, historical setting, characters, a particular scene that stood out to you, representations of class differences, the ending etc…I will leave it open to you. Think of it as a response paper or journal entry. This is the similar in format to the City Lights assignment. As a review, here are some basic guidelines:

Assignment: Write a 2-3 full page response/reflection on the film Bicycle Thieves.
Guidelines: You will be writing on anything that interests you about this film…the themes, story, Italian Neorealism characteristics, historical setting, characters, a particular scene that stood out to you, representations of class differences, the ending etc…I will leave it open to you. Think of it as a response paper or journal entry.
Length: The assignment should be 2-3 full pages, double-spaced. Make sure you write full pages so that you do not lose points on submitting an incomplete assignment.
Directions: A title is not required but you are more than welcome to include it. Paper is due by the end of the day (1/20), but may be turned in any time prior through CANVAS. Please include your name, date, class on the top right corner. No late work will be accepted. If you have questions, ask in class or email me.
As a review, here are the basic guidelines:
1. The paper should be 2-3 pages (double spaced, 12 font, 1″ margins)
2. Review the paper for any spelling/grammar mistakes (you will lose points if there are errors)
3. Do not write 1 long paragraph
4. Do not summarize the story; focus more on your reaction to the film. I encourage you to use examples from the film to support your observations but do not rely on simply summarizing the plot.
5. You may use “I” and write in the first person if needed
6. Please make sure you spell the names of the filmmakers, characters, actors etc…correctly.
7. Italicize the film title (or any additional films referenced); for example, please italicize the title as Bicycle Thieves and not Bicycle Thieves.
Your paper should be typed/word processed, proofread and free from typographical, spelling, and grammar errors.

This is also an opportunity to critique the film (both positively and negatively). Do not be afraid to say you did not like aspects of the film either.
Hopefully there are elements from this film which will trigger something to write about for each one of you.
