2500 words + bibliography (2250 words minimum, 3000 words maximum +
bibliography), double spaced, standard formatting and margins. See course
outline for additional formatting details. Times New Roman font. Electronic
submissions only, and only word (.docx) or PDF submissions – NO PAGES or
Google Docs please.
• Minimum of 12 total sources:
• 6 sources are required to be from course content – this means anything
we cover in class is fair game including video content, other than my
lecture slides.
• A minimum of 6 additional sources are required from outside of the class.
• 6 must be peer reviewed academic articles (from the course content
and/or your own research)
• You can have more than 12 sources if you want
• There is a bibliography chart document on D2L to help keep you
organized. You should use it.
• Use any citation style that you know best (APA, MLA, Chicago, IEEE) –
please be consistent with whatever style you choose. (Please see the Purdue
Owl website for more details on citation styles).
• Don’t forget about the opt-in/opt-out feedback option. Please write ‘opt in’ or
‘opt out’ in the top left corner of your paper. If you do not choose either option, it
is assumed that you have chosen to opt out.
• If you opt in, you will receive detailed feedback on your paper. If you opt out,
you will receive 2-3 general comments associated with the rubric and a number
grade only.
• Choosing to opt out will not impact your grade in any way – it’s more about
getting a sense of how to manage my time grading with 3 sections of sport, 3
other classes and a limited amount of grading assistance. As many of you are not
Arts students, the type of feedback that I would give might not be relevant to you
or your success in your home programs.
• You can schedule an optional 10-minute chat with me to discuss your paper
beginning in early November (please check the course outline for exact dates as
this varies across each section). If you take advantage of this workshop session,
you will be eligible for a 3% bump on your paper’s final grade, regardless of
whether you choose to opt in for feedback on the final submission. Due to the
number of students that I have in each section (and across all 6 sections I teach), I
can only see each student once. I will not provide feedback to papers emailed to
me – if you want help, you’re going to have to schedule a workshop session.
Points Breakdown:
The assignment is out of 50 and then will be converted to a percentage. Here is the
breakdown of points:
/40 Argumentation: Things to consider for this category: Is the paper convincing? Does
the paper have a purpose? Does it stand for something? If the author has chosen to write a
policy paper, how effectively do the policy debates get broken down? Has the author
engaged with any theoretical frameworks? If so, how effectively have the theories been
utilized? Does the paper have any real-world implications? If so, what are they? Is the
“So what?” explicit and obvious or merely implied? Remember to show more & tell
less.

introduction? Is the sentence structure and syntax strong? What about the organization of
