1. You must pick any health issue or outcome and demonstrate why a person’s belonging to a gender category matters for this issue or outcome. Issues include things like diet culture, intimate partner violence, participation in sports, or access to healthcare. Outcomes include things like patterns of disease such as breast or cervical cancer or unequal mortality outcomes like maternal mortality rates. Your job in this paper will be to demonstrate why your chosen topic is about health and about gender as you define these terms.
2. You must use at least three sources from class, either readings or lectures. You should use these materials to demonstrate why this inequality exists. Make sure to think about things like social structures and intersectionality, power, and the legal climate.
3. You must cite any claims of fact using course materials or reputable outside materials. If you have a question about what a reputable source is, please see the syllabus. Wikipedia and Google do not count.
4. You must frame the paper as an argument. Your goal here is to persuade your reader that gender as a socially constructed category shapes health in unequal ways.
