The government policies are crucial in transition to a sustainable/green economy. In this essay, you are asked to choose a country (— Nigeria) and:
a. briefly discuss the government’s major sustainability policies and objectives in the chosen country.
In your discussion, you can briefly compare the policies and objectives in the chosen country with some other countries’ policies and objectives,
b. discuss the carbon emission control system (carbon taxation and/or carbon trading system) that is in place in the chosen country, and discuss its importance in this transition. If there is any recent policy change in the carbon emission control system, discuss the policy change in detail
c. discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the carbon emission control system in place in the chosen country,
d. discuss how the country specific conditions such as socioeconomic conditions, institutional characteristics or sectoral composition of the economy affects the success of the carbon emission control system. In your discussion in this part, you can also compare the chosen country’s carbon
emission control system with the ones in some other countries.

Structure of the Essay
• The clarity and structure of logical arguments will be important assessment criteria. Your assignment is expected to have a good structure and to have distinct parts for each part. You are expected to use a formal written language, showing that you can effectively use the necessary terminology.
• You are expected to explain your statements in detail and always provide in-text references whenever needed and add a reference list to the end of your essay.
• In addition to the in-class readings, you can use other resources to support your discussion and arguments. For the analysis, you can use research articles, working papers by central banks and international organizations (such as BIS, IMF, World Bank), books, news articles, etc.
• Using a well-structured sectioning format throughout the essay (e.g., sections, subsections, and subsubsections if required) will help you to organize and transmit your ideas in a clearer way
• You are expected to have a title page with the “word count” information. The word count excludes the words in tables, figures, and reference list.
