Career Outlook

The Career Outlook essay is your opportunity to research a specific career path of interest to you. You are welcome to interview a professional in the field to learn more about it, and you should use these online resources to gather information:

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics – Occupational Outlook Handbook
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics – Career Outlook
O*Net OnLine
Career OneStop
While researching, you should consider the following topics:

Your interests and the career
Identify a specific career,
Explain why that job interests you, and
Describe how your interests and values would help you succeed in the field.
What the job entails
Description of the occupation
work environment
tasks typical of this job
Training, salary, and outlook
Education and/or training needed for an entry-level position
Range of salary
Trends in employment
You will organize this information into a 2 page, double-spaced essay, and including a separate works cited page. As with your other reflections, please follow your chosen style guide (APA or MLA) for margins, headings, fonts, and spacing. In addition, because this is a “researched” paper, you will want to include citations on a separate “Works Cited” page (MLA example and APA Reference List: Basic Rules). For specific formatting questions about electronic sources, consult Purdue’s OWL site.
