After reading the document explore the following
questions in an essay of at least 300 words:
• What strikes you as the most depressing aspect
of the life described in the letter? Why?
• What is his attitude toward other indentured
servants? Other colonists?
Does Frethorne have anything positive to say
about his life in the colony?
• Does any aspect of his life on the plantation
give him hope?
How do you interpret the requests he makes of
his parents at the end of the letter?
Your essay must include separate introductory and
concluding paragraphs and a paragraph for each
of the 5 bullet points listed above (total of 7
paragraphs).
Your essay must be double-spaced.
Compose the essay and save (.doc, .dox, .pdf, .txt, or
rtf format only – no Apple Pages, Google Docs, or
anything else) to a file, folder, desktop, etc. on your
computer then upload to the Campus dropbox
according to the instructions below.
