For Cooper, please read my lecture notes about the blog post. It has a lot of contextual information in order to understand the point Cooper is making. I’ve also made a video lecture covering the material as well. Then read the blog post.

1) What is the importance of language to identity for Anzaldua? What connection is made between the way we use language and what it means for our own self-power?
2) What do you think about your own relationship to language and how it shapes your identity?
Questions about “On bell, Beyonce, and Bullshit” by Cooper
1)What do you think of Dr. Cooper’s point about considering the aspect of “humanity” when judging Beyonce’s cover?
2) After listening to these positions, what do you think about the varying ways we perform our “feminism”? Since no single person’s feminism is the same, how do you find yourself understanding the term compared to the likes of bell hooks, Dr. Cooper, and Beyonce?

2) In what ways can cultural, society, and community counteract the tragedies that happened to Serena Williams, Simone Landrum, and the other women mentioned?

Questions:
1) Do you agree with the author that feminism (saving Muslim women in Afghanistan) was just a ploy to justify war?
2) Given that Muslim women who wear burqas are discriminated against and labeled “terrorist”, what do you think people could do in the US to educate themselves on other cultures, specifically Muslim women? Do you believe if people were more educated on other cultures there would be less discrimination?
3) What steps should organizations take when they want to try and lend assistance to a country they are unfamiliar with?
4) How much respect should be paid to culture when we are discussing changing aspects of a country?
Requires no citations but needs to answer these questions thoroughly.
