Directions for this Essay:
-Read the opinions given below by another person in answer to two questions
regarding an International Monetary System based on gold and implementing a
global version of the European Monetary System.
-After reading the opinions given by that person, respond to the following
questions in a one-page essay:
1) Do you agree with the opinion
given to question # 1? Why or why not?
2) Do you agree with the
opinion given to question # 2? Why or why not?

Opinions:

Question # 1: Do you think an international monetary
system with currencies valued on the basis of gold would work today? Why
or why not?

Opinion: Suppose the international monetary system is the
standard economic unit of account based on gold. In these countries, the
currency would be linked to gold, and the value of a country’s paper money
would also be linked to gold. Therefore, the gold standard would lead to more prevalent
periods of inflation and deflation. This is because the value of a currency
will depend on gold discoveries. For example, if there is a significant
discovery of gold, it will lead to more currency, which will lead to inflation.
However, if gold discoveries reduce or fall drastically, then growth in the
money supply will slow down, leading to deflation. In addition, the banking
system will become more prone to crisis and instability. While new unregulated
entities will crop up, putting an immense risk on the financial and banking
structure.

Question # 2: Do you think implementing a global version
of the old European monetary system would work today? Why or why not?

Opinion: Implementing a system similar to the European
monetary system on a global scale would be a difficult task. Economies with
highly disparate economic conditions would find it challenging to address
domestic economic problems that could be dealt with efficiently at the national
level. The world’s industrialized economies could develop a system similar to
the European monetary system, but without including the least developed
economies. Thus, without the world’s poorest countries in line economically
with the world’s most advanced economies would be practically impossible.
Furthermore, the vast amounts of subsidies to the poor economies could severely
drain the resources of the world’s most industrialized countries.

Part One: Introduction
Explain the importance of evidence-based decision making in healthcare. Your slide must include (1 slide):

Part Two: Recommendation and Rationale
Using the data provided, analyze the current and future state of the ICU. Consider three scenarios for the future state, one without additional beds and two with additional beds. Based on your research and analysis, determine two viable scenarios for bed count and present these scenarios. Use graphics, text, and charts as required (8–11 slides). Be sure to cite your sources as needed.
The slides should include:
An overview of three options for the ICU that you analyzed.
In your narration, be sure to provide a thorough analysis of the three options and refer to academic resources to support your options.
A description of how each option will address the issues in the ICU.
The presenter’s narration should provide a detailed explanation of how each option will address the issues in the ICU.
A graphic comparison between the current state of the ICU versus the remote monitoring ICU implementation in 5 years.
A final recommendation for one of the options and an explanation of why it will maximize the benefits to the hospital, patients, and community.
The slide narration should include:
A detailed rationale justifying your recommendation.
The presenter notes should include citations for the sources of your graphics.
An explanation of the impact of your recommendation on staffing, productivity, competitiveness, and finances, using appropriate qualitative and quantitative data to support your explanation.
The presenter’s narration should include an explanation regarding how the data supports your explanation.
Part Three: Evidence Evaluation
Knowing that United General’s leadership team focuses on evidence-based decision making, address the following, in 3–4 slides:
Summarize the evidence used in developing the opportunity statement and recommendation.
Describe why each piece of evidence is relevant to patients, the community, and the hospital.
Summarize the analysis used to create the recommendation.
Evaluate the validity and reliability of the data.

Background
We have just started to work together this semester, and we have also started to learn something about how you can succeed in this class and in college. We have very briefly discussed some basic ideas about what it means to be successful, as well as one more complex idea: mindsets.
Your Task
In a short essay, summarize the basic idea of mindsets (including one short quotation from Brainology by Dweck) and give examples from your own experience to answer the writing question in the box below.
In what ways do you have a fixed and/or a growth mindset?
How To Do It
These are recommendations rather than requirements.
Your first paragraph might be a short summary of the idea of mindsets: What is a fixed mindset? What is a growth mindset? You might also briefly explain how these concepts help us to understand why we succeed or do not succeed at some tasks. You should end this paragraph with a thesis statement.
Your thesis statement should directly answer the writing question. Feel free to use “I”—after all, I’m asking about you!
Some examples:
After learning about these differences, I realize that I have a fixed mindset about math, but a growth mindset about art.
I am lucky because I have a growth mindset about almost everything.
I am working on having a growth mindset about English.
Note that these are not high school formula thesis statements with a list of three things: now is the time for you to begin growing out of those.
The body paragraphs should support your thesis by providing examples and further explanations.
At the end of your essay, in your conclusion, state whether you believe you need to change your mindset. If you do need to change, how might you do so?
