These readings should inform your essay, but your essay should not be a mere summary of these readings. The thesis or argument will be of your own choosing. The essay should have a clear pattern of organization, use evidence and reasoning for supporting your position, and reference these readings for some of this support. Even though there are only three readings, you should nonetheless cite these sources when quoting or paraphrasing from them. However, for the purposes of this essay, you need not provide a bibliography or a list of works cited.
Your essay should be about 1000 words long — and no longer than 1250. We recommend that you compose this essay with a program, like Word, and that you save it to your computer or to the cloud.

Compose business policies to enable implementation of a strategic plan.

This assignment will require intensive interpretation skills. Be sure to read this Case Analysis Guide to prepare. Be sure to use the grading rubric as a checklist.
Scenario:
Choose an award-winning company from the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program website (https://www.nist.gov/baldrige/award-recipients) to study. You will evaluate the “Award Application Summary” as a business case. You are the director of strategic planning and business intelligence for your chosen company. You have conducted an evaluation of your chosen company for an upcoming annual report. Your presentation of a strategic framework to expand operations into the international marketplace has been tentatively approved. You have submitted a plan of action for implementation of your strategy to the C-level executives for consideration. As a follow-up to your action plan, the C-level executives require a proposal that outlines internal management operations and organizational culture guidelines for the expansion effort into your chosen international market. Use the following criteria to compose the proposal:
Assignment Part 1 Requirements:
Provide background information about your chosen company, including topics such as the company name, industry sector in which the company operates, products, and target market. Elaborate and use research.
Explain what strategic planning is and why it is important to a company by giving practical examples and synthesizing strategic management theories, principles, and concepts using research (read Chapters 1 and 2 in your textbook).
Identify and present an opportunity for your chosen company to expand into an international market. You can search international markets using the Global Edge website (https://globaledge.msu.edu/). Conduct additional research on the company website or using the Purdue University Global Consider expansion ideas such as the creation of a new product, demand for an existing product, creation of a grant-funded foundation, development of a subsidiary, etc. Be creative and innovative.
Provide reasoning why the company should enter your chosen international market (read pages 184–185 in your textbook).
Explain the importance of appropriate resource allocation to strategy execution to ensure the success of the company expansion into your chosen international market (read pages 323–325 in your textbook).
Explain the importance of policies and procedures to the effective facilitation of strategy execution to ensure the success of the company expansion into your chosen international market (read pages 325–327 in your textbook).
Compose three policies that are imperative to the successful implementation of the company expansion strategy into your chosen international market. Explain why these policies are important.
Determine how process management tools can be used to drive process improvement in the performance of value chain activities of the company expansion effort into your chosen international market (read pages 327–333 in your textbook).
Explain the role of information systems and operating systems in enabling company personnel to carry out their strategic roles proficiently throughout the company expansion effort into your chosen international market (read pages 333–335 in your textbook).

CASE STUDY: Active Labor: Susan Wong
Mrs. Wong, a first-time mother, is admitted to the birthing suite in early labor after spontaneous rupture of membranes at home. She is at 38 weeks of gestation with a history of abnormal alpha-fetoprotein levels at 16 weeks of pregnancy.
She was scheduled for ultrasonography to visualize the fetus to rule out an open spinal defect or Down syndrome, but never followed through. Mrs. Wong and her husband disagreed about what to do (keep or terminate the pregnancy) if the ultrasonography indicated a spinal problem, so they felt they did not want this information.

Document 4 “Mary Prince Describes Her Work as an Enslaved Salt Raker” p. 62
Document 5 “Eulalia Perez Recalls her Work in a Mission in Spanish California in the Early Nineteenth Century” p. 64
You had two readings – one was document 5 about Eulalia Perez, a woman in Spanish California in the early 19th century and document 4, about Mary Prince who was an enslaved salt raker also in the early 19th century. These two documents demonstrate some of the types of labor that women did in the early 19th century. During this time, a woman’s “proper” role was that of wife and mother and her work was usually done within or around the home. However, we see that even though gender roles for women were very strict, women still had to labor outside of the home for different reasons.
The other elements to add to this are race and ethnicity. Eulalia was a woman of Spanish descent in Spanish California. Her Spanish bloodline placed her above other women in the region and even sometimes above men. As a Spanish woman we see that she had some authority over the Native American women and men in the Mission and she was given many responsibilities. However, being a woman still meant she had limitations and expectations.
On the other hand, Mary Prince was born into the system of slavery and therefore she no rights over her own body and life. She gained nothing from her labor.
Looking back at Anne Hutchinson’s story we also see that she worked outside of the home and helped her community as a healer and midwife.
These are just three examples of the many ways that women labored before the industrial revolution and before women stepped into wage labor in large numbers.
