Your paper will be graded on your ability to apply the steps of both Rational Problem Solving and Social Thinking to a current social problem.
Having contemplated these steps for the effects of racism on African American neighborhoods, choose another issue that places vulnerable families and communities at risk.
Trace behavioral problems like violence against Native American women, or low academic achievement related to contaminated drinking water back to their sources in organizational, institutional or systemic deviance.
After introducing the problem using current statistics and analysis of root causes, follow the format we used for Rational Problem Solving and Social Thinking and answer all prompts.
At the appropriate place, insert a Force Field Analysis for two alternative plans to address the problem.
Estimate the weights of each driving and restraining force, calculate the overall power and direction, and explain why you are choosing one alternative over the other.
Then conclude with a discussion of how you see RPS and Social Thinking complementing each other in working toward solutions to this problem.

After reading Diagramming and Evaluating Arguments, read “Social Media: Establishing Criteria for Law Enforcement” (Links to an external site.) by Robert D. Stuart. Next, write an essay evaluating the effectiveness/ineffectiveness of Stuart’s argument.
Take note: your goal is not to form an argument about Stuart’s subject matter (law enforcement). Instead, form an argument about how successful and/or unsuccessful he is in developing and making his argument. Avoid writing general observations like “Stuart does a good job with…”. Enduring Vision Chapter Sixteen – Reconstruction and Resistance, 1865 – 1877

From textbook and the supplemental readings, write a two to three page essay that evaluates the effectiveness of Reconstruction on both the social and political life of African Americans in the South.

1. Which of the animated films Boxer mentions have you seen? Do you generally agree with her assessment of how they treat mothers and motherhood? Do you think anything has changed since 2014, when this article appeared? What animated films can you name that pass Boxer’s test of having “a named mother in it who lives until the credits roll” (para. 4)?
2. Boxer anticipates some readers saying “Get over it. It’s just a movie…Let it go” (para. 15), but the last emotion she mentions—and seemingly endorses—is “pure rage” (para. 42). Where along the spectrum from indifference to rage would you situate yourself, and why?
3. In “‘Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt’: Advertising and Violence” (reading from our last unit), Jean Kilbourne takes the advertising industry to task for condoning and normalizing violence against women; near the end of her essay, she writes that “this pervasive harassment of and contempt for girls and women constitute a kind of abuse” (para. 48). To what extent do you think animated films are another way girls and women can get hurt? What similarities and differences do you see between misogynistic ads and the films Boxer describes, and so you think the films “constitute a kind of abuse”?
4. Boxer praises The Incredibles for having three important female characters, including Elastigirl—a “really flexible, sexy, and strong superhero” (para. 39). Can you think of any equivalents to Elastigirl in other media arenas like gaming, comics, Manga, or anime? Do these media, like animated films, tend to ignore or kill off mothers?

Use well-formed paragraphs, with topic sentences . One idea per paragraph is the rule. Some concepts will need more than one paragraph because they are comprised of several important ideas.
Use examples. Discuss how these apply in real life. Write as though you were explaining the concepts to other computer scientists that did not know anything about this particular topic. Include references to online resources as needed.
