Discussion 1 Matrices for Computer Storage and Processing
Matrices
provide a simpler way to process multiple equations and variables. They
are the basis for many types of computer storage and processing.
Initial Post: Consider
the following situation and how it might be modelled with matrices. You
are the teacher of a class of five students. Throughout the class, you
give them four tests with a possible score of 100. Write a word problem
for a classmate to solve.
1)
Represent the above situation with a matrix (5 x 4) assigning names to
each of the five students and a grade (out of 100) to each of their
tests.
2) Discuss the matrix operations that can be used determine the class average for each of the four tests.
3) Solve for the average on each of the four tests using Matrix Operations.

Discussion 2 Applications of Algorithms and Transition Diagrams
Initial Post: Complete both parts of the Discussion.

Part 1: Algorithms
Write
an algorithm for an action that you perform each day something with
multiple steps and which requires you to make decisions. For example,
putting snow tires on your car or tidying up the house for a visit from
your mother-in-law. Your algorithm must have at least one conditional
operation, one iterative operation, and one sequential operation.

Part 2: Transition Diagrams
How
can transition diagrams help you to write or design a better program,
application, or system? Identify an example scenario in which a state
transition diagram might come in handy. Be sure to identify at least
three states and three transitions in your scenario and the
probabilities associated with each transition. You may use the software
of your choice for the drawing. A few online options are creatly.com or
cosketch.com. Also, Paint, Word, or PPT work and can be saved as an
image or file. Share the image as an attachment or as a link.

Oil (the rule of oil) has prevented uprising and protest in the Golf region such as siria, libia or egypt. Relationship between oil and uprsising. Oil plays an important part in authoritarianism. Oil has increased money (Qatar, UAE, Arabai Saudi…). Golf uprising, did not work because the protesters did not have resources. Citizens has been advantaged by oil but not a lot compare to the government or elites.
gulf states are able to resist political pressure (from locals/grassroots mobilization) due to the provision of oil money for their regime.
Say how the state uses the revenues from oil to appease its citizens, buy advanced weaponry to put down any rebellions.

changing relationship between Israel and the United
States. For decades, Israel and U.S. have had a strong
relationship, due in part to Israel’s dependence on foreign
aid from the U.S. In recent years, Israel has accepted far
less aid from the U.S. and this is impacting the influence of
U.S. foreign policy in the region. According to the article,
why is Israel no longer accepting as much foreign aid from
the U.S.?
2.) The Economist article “Lebanese Move to West Africa,
Escaping the Crisis at Home” discusses the ongoing trend
of Lebanese citizens moving to West African nations,
including Nigeria and Ghana. As the article mentions, the
ongoing economic crisis in Lebanon is the primary reason
why Lebanese citizens are leaving their home country and
despite the fact the Lebanese are moving to all parts of the
world, why are so many Lebanese interested in moving to
West Africa?

Narrative Assignment (Adapted from The Allyn and Bacon Guide to Writing, 6th ed.)
Write an autobiographical narrative that focuses a single experience with language, reading, writing, or education. If you cannot think of anything to write that qualifies as a literacy narrative, you may write about any single obstacle you have faced, conflict in your life that you have had to deal with, disability, disadvantage, circumstance or situation that involved a struggle that you can detail. Take care to write about one experience, to tell one story, rather than to provide an overview that spans several years of your life. Incorporate the literary elements of plot (including at least one scene), character, conflict, setting, theme, and descriptive language in the telling of your story. The finished paper should develop, and complete a narrative point. This essay should be 1000-1500 words in order to be considered complete.
Rhetorical Situation:
Purpose: The purpose in this course is to experience the full writing process, to develop skill in basic essay composition, to understand narration, to demonstrate understanding of close description or illustration in writing. Your purpose as a writer is to communicate a meaningful experience related to language, reading, writing, or education that compels the reader and has a clear narrative point.
Audience: a general audience of readers with varying backgrounds and beliefs and at least a high school education, including your English instructor
Tone: your content determines the tone; whether you choose a serious or light-hearted tone, a critical or celebratory one, it should be clear to the reader and consistent throughout
Grading:
In order to be eligible to be graded from 100% a paper has to be original and complete and clearly respond to the assignment instructions.
Editing and format: 30% (Presentation in correct MLA format and effective editing to remove deviations from Standard English)
Organization and flow: 30% (Use of topic and summary sentences, use of transitions, logical flow of ideas from paragraph to paragraph and within paragraphs)
Narrative elements: 40% (These include character development, at least one effective scene, a clear sense of setting, a clear plot (something has to happen!, conflict, and a clear narrative point)
