Also more rules for term paper from instructor

Students are expected to complete a 1000-word term paper on their choice of a historical topic that will be provided by the instructor. This paper is to be typed, double spaced, and submitted on CANVAS in the dropbox. The paper must correctly use at least four scholarly sources with text citation and a reference page. In preparation for the paper, you will have to complete term paper preparation (graded) assignments which will include picking a topic, a plagiarism tutorial and examination, selecting scholarly sources, and an outline.

*Important note about sources*The only acceptable sources are peer reviewed sources from the college library database. You can find these sources at https://mgccc.edu/library/. There is an abundance of information in the modules on identifying peer reviewed sources and how to cite them. Citations must appear in APA format in the text, and in an APA formatted Works Cited page. Remember that this is a collegiate term paper and not a research paper. It is supposed to be analytical as well as informative. Therefore, the sources that you choose are important. Information from academics that are peer reviewed should make up the bulk of your sources. Sources not found in the college databasewill NOT be accepted. Here is a short (not exhaustive) list of some sources that are unacceptable.

These online sources can only be from the following source types:
o Government reports

o Reports from credible independent groups such as the Innocence Project
Writing a Paper
The term paper will consist of two distinct parts. The first part is the literature review. In the first step you will use scholarly articles to read and discover what others are saying about your research question. After you have read and reviewed studies related to your research question,

you will need to create a narrative description of what you discovered (this is part two). As you write you will need to remember that the purpose of a literature review is to:
Inform the reader of the knowledge and ideas centered around your research question
Inform the reader of your reason for exploring your research question
Step One: Plan
Find a focus- Make sure that your work is organized around ideas- not the sources but a direction or position that they will support. As suggested: start with the table of contents, select a chapter (broad topic), select subtopics from chapter headings, and identify two or three areas.
Create a working thesis- Unlike other types of research papers your thesis does not create an argument or a position. What it does do is to create a way of looking at the research around your topic.
Think about elements of organization- This means that you must consider the way that the information will be presented. Creating an outline of topics and subtopics is a helpful way to organize.
Step Two: Writing (Introduction, Body, Conclusion)
Introduction (1-page)
o Define the general topic, issue, or area of concern
o Point out trends in the published research in the area or conflicts in the theory, methodology, evidence, and conclusions, or gaps in the research or a new perspective
o Detail your reasons for a review of the literature on your research question. Explain your stance and organizational structure
Body (4-6 pages): Its important to consider how you will present the sources you found. You may want to consider the following methods-
o Chronological- Organize the research in the order it was conducted
o By publication- You may group sources by the type of research they present or the area/field of research (for example: government reports).
o Trends- Categorizing your sources this way will present changes in data interpretation over time.
o Thematic- Organizing your ideas around topics or issues. This organizational structure presents an emphasis on ideas or themes.
o Methodological- This approach groups research studies by the way the research was conducted.
o In this section, be sure to include:
The current situation in regard to your research question
The history or related ideas that have influenced the development of your issues identified in your research question
Conclusion: (2-3 pages)
o Summarize the major points of significant studies and articles but your attention on the focus of your position
o Evaluate the current thinking on your research question. This may be a place for you to suggest that there are flaws in the research, theories, findings, or areas of study

o Conclude by providing insight into the relationship between the research question and the focus of your area of interest, study, or proposed position on the topic

What specific requirements are going to be addressed by the deployment of knowledge management and information systems?

Organization or Company Profile

Note: You may use an actual or
fictional organization

The following organization/company is
proposed for the completion of the Initial and Final papers for this
course: Plan for Effectively Integrating
and Deploying Knowledge Management and Information Systems to Achieve
Organizational Improvement

What is the name of organization/company (a pseudonym is acceptable)?

Amazon

Is this an actual organization/company or fictional?

Actual

Is the organization/company for-profit, non-profit, or government?

Non-Profit

What is the major product or service of the
organization/company?

Online Shopping, Delivery, ect.

What is the size of the organization/company (i.e., number
of employees, annual revenue or budget, number of locations)?

798,000 Employees, 110 active fulfillment centers in the US and 185 centers
globally.

What part of the organization/company are you going to review (e.g.,
entire organization/company, division, subunit, or group)? Please be specific.

The entire organization, growth and new development and acquiring new
sectors for growth.

How will you gain access to the
details of the organization/company (e.g.,
current culture, current systems, insights on management support)? Note: If
using a fictional organization, how will you
develop the details?

I will do research and gain details of the organization/company in new
processes and developments that have been discussed and introduced.

Why did you select this
organization/company for this final assignment?

Amazon has grown and acquired so many new entities and has grown from
just an online shopping outlet to delivering groceries, medicine and also today
acquired a streaming service. This will bring new competition to other
streaming service like Netflix and Disney plus.

What specific requirements are going to be addressed by the deployment
of knowledge management and information systems?

People. Your program
should increase the ability of individuals within the organization to
influence others with their knowledge.
Processes. The processes
you establish should include best practices and governance for the
efficient and accurate identification, management and dissemination of
knowledge.
Technology. The technology
you choose should enhance how you configure and use tools and automation
to enable knowledge management.
Structure. Organizational
structures should transform to facilitate and encourage cross-discipline
awareness and expertise.
Culture. Your
organization should establish and cultivate a knowledge-sharing,
knowledge-driven culture for long-term success.
I found these and will target them in my final project Amazon is
constantly changing and introducing new acquired services, growing to quickly
without taking into consideration the following can bring a very successful
company tumbling down.

Some common challenges you may want to prepare for
include:
Inability
to recognize or articulate knowledge; turning tacit knowledge into
explicit knowledge
Geographical
distance and/or language barriers in an international company
Limitations
of information and communication technologies
Loosely
defined areas of expertise
Constantly
changing business
Internal
conflicts (e.g. professional territoriality)
Lack
of incentives or performance management goals
Poor
training or mentoring programs
Cultural
barriers (e.g. this is how we’ve always done it mentality)
Additional Information from professor The goal of the initial paper is to determine whether you understand explicit knowledge and tacit knowledge. For example, Nonaka and Takeuchi point out that there are two types of knowledge: (1) explicit knowledge and (2) tacit knowledge. The explicit knowledge is generally contained in manuals and operating procedures. However, tacit knowledge is learned only by experience and communicated indirectly through metaphor and analogy. In western society, especially the U.S, managers focus on explicit knowledge. However, the Japanese focus on tacit knowledge. Nonaka and Takeuchi argue that learning how to transform tacit into explicit knowledge is the key to success in business.
After a brief introduction and the problem statement (I don’t see a problem statement in your paper), you need to list the research topics/questions. Here, you will need to make a case for why the problem and solution you have proposed to this study (paper) is vital to the success of Amazon’s operation. Although your chapter one discussion is on the right track, you have primarily discussed Porter’s five forces model. There is no discussion on how to transform tacit into explicit knowledge. How do you relate this knowledge to buyers, IT staff, etc.? What is your strategy to better-utilized software’s functionality? What is the methodology to train instructors, staff, and IT personnel? You also need to provide additional peer-reviewed articles for the MIS, Knowledgebase, and other related articles to strengthen your analysis as well. There are also grammatical errors in your document (Porter’s last name needs to be capitalized)
