By the end of the Republic, Socrates is convinced that only the just man is happy; injustice will involve unhappiness. Why is Socrates convinced that justice is more beneficial than injustice? Do you agree with Socrates that justice is more beneficial, and for the reasons he gives? Provide an argument for your position. When responding to this prompt, consider these questions:

What alternative accounts of justice does Socrates encounter?
What is the relationship between determining whether justice is more beneficial than injustice, and determining the nature of justice itself? That is, what is the relationship of happiness to justice?
