Present an example of an observation and inference. Your response should have four parts. First, describe the person you observed by gender, age, and situation (e.g., a pregnant woman in her early twenties walking in the market with two small children). Second, describe the persons interaction with a product or service (e.g., the woman stopped at the fruit stand, examined a papaya, asked the vendor what it cost, and put it back in the pile without purchasing it). Third, make an inference about his or her motives, priorities, or perceptions (e.g., She perceived the papaya as being of poor quality.) Fourth, make one alternative inference about his or her motives, priorities or perceptions (e.g., She determined that the price was too high, and she gives a higher priority to buying other products at this time.)

Initial Post and 2 Discussion Replies

Class: Management and Organizational Behavior

Topic: Outline the perceptual process and discuss the effects of categorical thinking and mental models in that process.
Write a well-developed paragraph explaining.

I will need an initial Post of 150 word with one reference and two replies to the posts listed below of 100 words each.

First Reply:
The perceptual process is a mental process that helps us perceive the world around us. It involves selecting, organizing, and interpreting information (Bargh, 2014). The perceptual process begins with stimuli that are received by our senses. Selective attention is one way our brain filters the incoming stimuli, whatever is relevant. As the brain filters information or inputs from the external world, it groups information and categorizes them. This process shapes the way we think, and it is called categorical thinking. One downside of categorical thinking is that we can create illusions by jumping to conclusions, believing something is correct and the reality, it is not. Another consequence of the perceptual process is the mental models. Mental models arise as the brain groups information to make sense of things, simplifying complex data, creating frameworks that help us fill in the blanks on upcoming information and situations. Mental models are instrumental in helping us understand the world, but one of the most significant limitations of mental models is that there is the risk for errors and biases.

Second Reply:
Perceptual Process is a sequence of steps, that involves selection of stimuli in the environment, organizing the information available from the environment and interpretation of the stimuli from the environment. In simple words, perceptual process is sleeting, organizing, and interpreting information to make sense of the world around us. Percentual Organization involves Categorical thinking. Categorical Thinking is the non-conscious process of organizing people and objects around us into preconceived categories which are stored in our long-term memory. Mental Models help us to make sense of the incoming stimuli from the surrounding world.
