Explain how plants acquire and distribute sugars, water, and minerals.

1. Mosses are a non-vascular plant phylum. They reproduce by spores rather than seeds, and they don’t have flowers, wood, or genuine roots. All moss species contain rhizoids instead of roots. The mosses are found in the Bryophyta sub-division of the Musci division of plants. Mosses are found in moist habitats such as rainforests, marshes, and alpine habitats all over the world. They’re also abundant in wet-climate cities, where they colonize roadways, sidewalks, brick walls, and other man-made structures. Mosses need water to reproduce, which is why they suffer in arid environments. Despite the fact that mosses are primitive plants, their life cycle is quite similar to that of all other terrestrial plants in that they have generations that alternate. All terrestrial plants have alternate generations, with one (the gametophyte generation) having half the genetic material as the second (the sporophyte). When spores released by the sporophyte settle and begin to divide, the gametophyte is formed. Sperm cells can move from one gametophyte to another and fertilize eggs when gametophytes are coated in a thin coating of water. After that, the fertilized egg grows into a sporophyte, which produces spores. The gametophyte is the dominant generation, and the sporophyte can only live because of the gametophyte’s water and nutrients. Almost all other terrestrial plants are the polar opposite of this. Moss species account for over 75% of all Bryophyte species, with over 14,500 species worldwide. Mosses are limited in size due to their lack of vascular tissue, which makes it difficult for them to transfer water. They are generally less than an inch tall, and the world’s tallest species can only reach a height of 50 cm (20 inches). A spongy moss mat is composed of hundreds of small individual mosses that band together to promote water absorption and retention. Mosses are significant for a variety of causes and in a variety of elements of life on Earth. Mosses provide a fantastic habitat and food supply for insects and other animals. Mosses, on a larger scale, filter and retain water, stabilize the ground, and remove CO2 from the atmosphere, among other services that help ecosystems work successfully. Mosses have also been used by humans for a variety of purposes. Moss has traditionally been used for packaging food, helping to insulate dwellings, and in the Northern Hemisphere, peat made from semi-decomposed Sphagnum moss has been used as a fuel. Mosses have lately become popular in the floristry industry.
