Global Perspectives in Psychology

The goal of your reading reactions is to connect your experiences with the text by interpreting, evaluating, applying and even sometimes considering alternative responses or interpretations of the information you are learning. For this assignment, you are required to write a 500 word minimum (no maximum) response to the materials that are posted on that week’s Canvas page. In order to receive full credit, all materials must be included in your reading reaction. You will post your 500+ word response here.
For your reflections, consider the questions below. You are not limited to these questions, but your answer must be thoughtful and academically strong. In other words, you are expected to use advanced terminology and concepts learned in the course in your postings. No credit will be given for responses that appear shallow, vague or overly general (e.g. “This article was great.” or “That was interesting.” or “I did not know what to think about this one.”
Here are the questions for you to consider:
What are the complexities of this issue? What new ideas are here for you to consider? Discuss connections between the material and your life to the extent that you feel comfortable and is appropriate for your classmates. How can these readings help you develop as a professional? What questions would you pose to the authors? How does your frame of reference affect your understanding and interpretation of the information (excluding simply a limited understanding of the complex concept? What do you still not fully understand about the topic?

Judicial Activism

Instructions
The Argumentative Synthesis project is divided into three parts. This is the assignment sheet specifically for Part 2. See the course calendar for due dates of drafts, peer reviews, and final drafts of all three parts.
Remember to combine Part 1 with Part 2 when you submit the assignment. So, you should submit one essay that includes both Parts 1 and 2, with a subheading labeled “Part 2” indicating where that essay begins. You should have one works cited page for both parts, correctly including any additional sources you’ve used in Part 2.
Part 2: Analysis & Synthesis (1200 words; 3 additional sources)
In Part 2, your job is to analyze each of the points of view or positions taken on the issue and then synthesize the debate for your readers. Here are some questions you might consider as you work on analyzing and synthesizing in Part 2:
Why is the issue significant today?
Who is most affected and concerned?
What “sides” are currently debating the issue? (And there are always more than two sides.)
Why do people think the way they do or take the position they do currently?
What values do the differing points of view share?
What values do they not share?
How do the various points of view define the values they hold? For example, everyone may agree that laws or policies should respect someone’s right to privacy, but they may disagree on what “right to privacy” actually means.
What values does one point of view prioritize higher than the other points of view? For example, people debating an issue may agree that laws or policies should respect someone’s freedom of religion, but one person may think that the economic needs of society is a higher priority than individual freedom of religion. So even though they may share the same values, in general, they may prioritize them differently in a specific situation.
Part 2: Organization or Structure
Generally, there are three main ways to organize or structure Part 2. You have to decide which way works more efficiently for you and your topic and issue. You can, of course, extend or modify these patterns as necessary. For example, if you have four major points of view you are trying to develop, then the formatting patterns below would have to be adjusted accordingly. Of course, you also need a works cited page.
Format 1 (organized around the competing points of view)
Briefly remind readers of the topic and issue
Introduce, summarize, and analyze point of view 1 (POV1)
Introduce, summarize, and analyze POV2
Synthesize POV1 and POV2
Introduce, summarize, and analyze POV3
Synthesize POV1, POV2, and POV3
Conclude with a reminder of the significance of the debate and a set up for Part 3
Format 2 (organized around the competing points of view)
Briefly remind readers of the topic and issue
Introduce, summarize, and analyze POV1
Introduce, summarize, and analyze POV2
Introduce, summarize, and analyze POV3
Synthesize, POV1, POV2, POV3
Conclude with a reminder of the significance of the debate and a set up for Part 3
Format 3 (organized around the sub-issues within the larger issue)
Briefly remind readers of the topic and issue
Introduce and summarize the sub-issue 1
Introduce, summarize, analyze, and synthesize the various positions on sub-issue 1
Introduce and summarize sub-issue 2
Introduce, summarize, analyze, and synthesize the various positions on sub-issue 2
Introduce and summarize sub-issue 3 (if you have time and space to develop a third sub-issue)
Introduce, summarize, analyze, and synthesize the various positions on sub-issue 3
Conclude with a reminder of the significance of the debate and a set up for Part 3

RESEARCH:
Usually, bird flu viruses only infect other birds. It is rare for people to get infected with bird flu viruses, but it can happen.
How the organism affects us: Two types, H5N1 and H7N9, have infected some people during outbreaks in Asia, Africa, the Pacific, the Middle East, and parts of Europe. There have also been some rare cases of other types of bird flu affecting people in the United States. (Bird Flu | Influenza A | Avian Flu 2020)
Bird flu illness in people can range from mild to severe. Often, the symptoms are similar to the seasonal flu, such as: Fever, Cough, Sore throat, Runny or stuffy nose, Muscle or body aches, Fatigue, Headaches, Eye redness (or conjunctivitis), Difficulty breathing, in some cases, bird flu can cause serious complications and death. (Bird Flu | Influenza A | Avian Flu 2020)
Kind of organism: The H7N9 virus is a kind of influenza found in birds, also known as an avian influenza virus. Avian influenza viruses go through genetic changes over time, and sometimes these genetic changes result in a new (novel) strain that can infect humans, swine and other animals. (Novel Influenza Viruses | Florida Department of Health. (n.d.)).
CRITICAL THINKING:
Although this type of virus was not that common in people, recently a lot of information has been published about the cases that are increasing slowly, more constantly. As with seasonal flu, some people are at higher risk for serious illnesses, for example pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems, and adults 65 and older. This, like other types of viruses, are affecting people level or seriously, depending on each immune system and I would also say that it has a lot to do not just age but our eating habits or routine habits. This type of virus is found only in birds and can be transmitted when the virus enters through a person’s eyes, nose, or mouth, or through inhalation. In conclusion, we are all exposed, and we must take the necessary measures to reduce the chances of contagion.

How the first and fourth amendment are integrated, as well as Facekonnect in society.

For this assignment you must write a 2-3 page paper that discusses the following issues: (a) an analysis of the First Amendment and how it applies to this particular case, (b) an analysis of the Fourth Amendment and how it applies to this particular case, (c) an analysis of the ethical responsibilities of FaceKonnect and whether they acted ethically under these circumstances, and (d) an analysis of what is the likely outcome under this set of facts.

You work for FaceKonnect, a social networking company that allows users to connect with other individuals based on their location and employment. In order to sign up with FaceKonnect, individuals must create a profile with personal information regarding their name, age, gender, geographical location, job description, and hobbies. Once enrolled, users are also allowed to express their opinions about whatever they like or dislike on their profile, they can add Konnections (friends), and create groups. FaceKonnect is a big advocate for the First Amendment and seldom blocks users from posting comments. You are in charge of the Human Resources Department at FaceKonnect and have the following situation brought to your attention:

Stephanie has a FaceKonnect online profile where she has expressed some controversial ideas. In one post, Stephanie has encouraged her Konnections to go out and commit human sacrifices in the name of Satan, alleging that that is the only way to fix the vast problems of the world. She has other controversial posts where she speaks of her personal love for Satan and what people should do to make him happy. Stephanie also posted some disturbing pornographic images along with that post. FaceKonnect failed to do anything about Stephanies posts, as it overlooked them. The spouse of a woman that was abused and murdered by Peter, a Konnection of Stephanies who became so engulfed in Stephanies post that he began to worship her and felt that she was a messenger that had to be listened to, filed a civil suit against both Stephanie and FaceKonnect. In addition, the spouse wants both Stephanie and FaceKonnect to face criminal charges for the incident. The government has further issued a subpoena to FaceKonnect requesting that FaceKonnect provide the government with all of the personal information of all of its users in order to conduct a thorough investigation of FaceKonnect.
