Probability Discussion

Topic
Probability is used constantly in our lives. We rarely actually use numbers in our daily calculations but probability still controls much of our daily interactions.
Some examples:
1. My wife is always late. I would estimate that she is late perhaps 95% of the time. Based on this, I can plan events. One time I told her that the time we needed to arrive was one hour prior to the correct time. We arrived about 10 minutes early. This is a subjective probability where an estimate is based upon past experience. Although percents and probability are not exactly the same, we tend to use them in the same manner.
2. When I last went to Vegas, I played the poker machine. I am not much into gambling so I play the 25 cent play. I would have to determine the higher probability of winning given certain circumstances. For example, I might go for all hearts or three of a kind based upon this mental calculation (assuming four hearts of which one is the jack of hearts and the non-heart is a jack of diamonds). Based upon probability:
P(flush or all hearts) = 9/47 (the dealt card needs to be a heart, 47 cards remaining of which 9 are hearts) = 19.15%
P(three jacks) = 2/47 (the dealt card needs to be a jack, 47 cards remaining of which 2 are jacks) = 4.26%
This is assuming that you get a brand new deck each round of video poker. Most people choose to go for the three of a kind but the flush has a better chance.

Come up with at least two examples of probability in your life.

Forum 8: Late Adulthood

Some of the best predictors of successful aging are an individual’s general negativity towards life, as well as the sense of control or one’s ability to adapting to life’s events (expected or not!). Looking back over your virtual life course, what sorts of experiences could contribute to successful aging, and which could have put you at risk for poor transition through the final stages of life?

Milton Friedman and John M Keynes

This exercise will be a writing process where you will tell me about two famous Economists that are still discussed years after their death. In the 6-page paper, I want you to tell me about the contributions of each, some examples of their beliefs in todays economy, and how the two differ in their beliefs of role of government.
It is a College Paper so I look for all references and sources at the end with APA style.
There is lots and lots of material available for both. The problem may be in distilling it to a concise 6- page delivery answering my questions posed above. I encourage you to apply the things we have talked about in this class to date to the two economists. I include a rubric to refer to so you get the best score you can on this 100-point assignment.

Remember this is about you not the team and what they did within the task. Of course, if there is something that on reflection could have been improved by greater involvement that affected you personally and your role, then mention this. Or did another member of the team support and strengthen the group or your role in the group work?

This can be divided up into sections.

Change Implementation and Management Plan

It is one of the most clich of clichs, but it nevertheless rings true: The only constant is change. As a nursing professional, you are no doubt aware that success in the healthcare field requires the ability to adapt to change, as the pace of change in healthcare may be without rival.
As a professional, you will be called upon to share expertise, inform, educate, and advocate. Your efforts in these areas can help lead others through change. In this Assignment, you will propose a change within your organization and present a comprehensive plan to implement the change you propose.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and identify one change that you believe is called for in your organization/workplace.
This may be a change necessary to effectively address one or more of the issues you addressed in the Workplace Environment Assessment you submitted in Module 4. It may also be a change in response to something not addressed in your previous efforts. It may be beneficial to discuss your ideas with your organizational leadership and/or colleagues to help identify and vet these ideas.
Reflect on how you might implement this change and how you might communicate this change to organizational leadership.
The Assignment (5-6-minute narrated PowerPoint presentation):
Change Implementation and Management Plan
Create a narrated PowerPoint presentation of 5 or 6 slides with video that presents a comprehensive plan to implement the change you propose.
Your narrated presentation should be 56 minutes in length.
Your Change Implementation and Management Plan should include the following:
An executive summary of the issues that are currently affecting your organization/workplace (This can include the work you completed in your Workplace Environment Assessment previously submitted, if relevant.)
A description of the change being proposed
Justifications for the change, including why addressing it will have a positive impact on your organization/workplace
Details about the type and scope of the proposed change
Identification of the stakeholders impacted by the change
Identification of a change management team (by title/role)
A plan for communicating the change you propose
A description of risk mitigation plans you would recommend to address the risks anticipated by the change you propose

Applying Kotters 8 Step Model
Carl is an owner of a local carwash that has struggled to maintain a steady flow of customers in the past months. The reasons for this change range from a poor economy to the recent building of two franchise carwash locations within ten miles of Carls carwash. Carl knows that if he does not do something quick to change the current status of his carwash he will soon be out of business.
After much deliberation and brainstorming, Carl has decided to introduce an interior shampooing service to the menu of services the carwash offers. The goal is to generate additional revenue and maintain a competitive advantage over other carwashes in the area. From past experience, Carl understands how important it is to use a change model to guide the process of implementing this new service. He turns to Kotters 8 Steps
1. ESTABLISING A SENSE OF URGENCY
To establish a sense of urgency, Carl holds a meeting with his staff to discuss the current financial situation at the carwash. He informs his employees that they are all on the verge of losing their jobs due to the limited revenue coming into the carwash. Carl assures his employees that closing the doors to the carwash is the last thing he wants to do, but that is a reality that they are all facing. He explains the need for change at the carwash and shows the connection between making changes and creating job security for his employees.
Carls employees recognize their jobs as being in jeopardy and express their commitment to making whatever changes are necessary to secure the longevity of their jobs and the carwash.
