WRITING YOUR OWN COMING-OF-AGE STORY

WRITING YOUR OWN COMING-OF-AGE STORY
For your project, you will be required to complete the following assignment using your creative, storytelling skills and your critical thinking and writing.
Over the course of the year, we have explored coming-of-age stories “in which the main character, usually a child or adolescent, undergoes an important experience or rite of passage”–or several– “that prepares him or her for adulthood” (Kennedy, X. J., and Dana Gioia. An Introduction to Fiction. 11th ed., Boston, Longman, 2010). We have approached the genre through a variety of works including OK for Now by Gary Schmidt, The Odyssey and especially “The Telemachiad” by Homer, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, and most recently The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo.
For our project, you will create:
An essay introducing and analyzing your story.
Directions: Write a 5-paragraph essay–polished but informal–in which you introduce and discuss how your coming-of-age story relates to or connects with 2 of the works we have studied this year as points of reference.
Requirements:
Your essay should be written in the first person
You must include a reference page and use proper in-text citations
Your essay should be 5 paragraphs long (introduction, inspiration, Book 1 connection, Book 2 connection, conclusion)
Directions: Introduce and discuss how your coming-of-age story relates to or connects with 2 of the works we have studied this year as points of reference.
Instructions:
Your narrative essay should have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Think about what makes a good story!
This will be a 5-paragraph essay
Think about structure: rising action, climax, conclusion, and resolution
You should hook your reader
Use imagery
Use literary devices (metaphor, simile, personification, dialogue, rhetorical questions, etc.)
At the end of your story, the reader should be left with an understanding of why this event was significant and how you grew or changed through this experience.
Edit; this is a story, so the story will use your voice (personal, first person, informal) but it is polished. Avoid typos. CRAFT your story.
Lastly, you should include a reference page with the 2 texts you chose to quote (this will be your bibliography, you should cite it in MLA format using a citation generator like https://www.easybib.com/mla/source)
P1: Introduction
P2: Inspiration
Where did your idea come from? what drew you to this specific moment? what was your thought process?
P3: Textual Influence 1
Using at least 1 quote from your own story + 1 quote from a novel we read, why did you create/write/draw what you created?
P4: Textual Influence 2
Using at least 1 quote from your own story + 1 quote from a novel we read, why did you create/write/draw what you created?
P5: Conclusion
Drafting/Blocking Story:
Exposition (Intro)
Rising Action
Climax
Falling Action
Resolution (Conclusion)
What’s happening in the story?
In the exposition of my story, I can paint a picture of my life before the transition. I can introduce my life at Atlanta International School and what it meant to me. This could include my relationships with friends, teachers, and the school’s culture. I can also talk about how I felt about the school and what I enjoyed most about it.
The rising action of my story would include the events leading up to my transition. This could include discussions with my parents, researching potential schools, and touring Woodward Academy. It would be crucial to describe how I felt during this time, whether I was excited, anxious, or a mix of emotions.
The climax of my story would be the moment when I made the decision to switch schools. This could be a conversation with my parents or the moment when I signed the paperwork. The climax would represent the turning point in my life, where I began to prepare for a new chapter in my life.
The falling action of my story would include my first few weeks at Woodward Academy. This could include my experiences meeting new people, getting used to the school’s culture, and adjusting to a new academic environment. It would be crucial to highlight the challenges I faced during this time and how I overcame them.
Finally, the resolution of my story would be a reflection on my experience. I could talk about how the transition helped me prepare for adulthood and what I learned about myself during the process. This could include the skills I developed, the friendships I made, or the new perspectives I gained.

How muscle work together and the impact the nervous system has on the muscular system

The brain acts as the command center of the body, continuously analyzing sensory input and modifying motor output to allow the body to respond appropriately to the everchanging external world. The focus of this paper is to discuss how muscles work together and the impact the nervous system has on the muscular system. Additionally, you will examine how a stroke affects these organ systems.

Pick a region of the body (e.g., pectoral girdle, hand, neck, thigh, etc.) and prepare a written paper of at least 1000 words on the following bullet points:
Describe the type(s) of muscle, patterns of fascicle organization, actions, and attachment points for the muscles present in your chosen region.
Trace the pathways by which the presence of a sensory stimulus (e.g., a bug crawling across your skin) in your chosen region is processed and the subsequent motor behavior that carried out. Be sure to identify the initiation and termination points of the tracts, where the cell bodies of the neurons present in the pathway are located, along with locations of any synapses that occur along the tract.
Focusing on one specific movement performed by muscles in your chosen region, identify the prime mover, synergists, and antagonists.
Predict how a stroke in the primary somatosensory cortex would affect both the anatomy and function of your chosen region differently than a stroke in the primary motor cortex.
Your paper should be formatted as a proper research paper with an introduction and conclusion. Do not simply follow the bullet points above, but really think about what you have learned and how that relates to other material we have covered, and knowledge you have from other courses you may have taken. The Research and Report assignments in this course are capstone assignments for each module. You should be integrating everything that you learned in the textbook, explorations, discussions, and lab activities into your papers. All referances must be cited using APA style format.

Use the following template:
Introduction: first identify the author’s thesis, then provide an analytical statement about the author’s thesis. This analytical statement should reflect what you will argue throughout the rest of this paper
Analysis: how does the author argue, defend and develop the thesis? Ultimately, to what conclusions does the author come? This portion of the paper ought to be 2 or more pages
Synthesis: How does the author’s perspective compare or contrast the concepts in theology?
Reflection: What new things did you learn from the book and what issues did the book leave unresolved for you?
Additional notes:
Turnitin detect AI writing and is considered a form of plagiarism, do not use it.
No need for additional sources, the book itself is enough.

Becoming An Ally

Becoming An Ally Assignment Guidelines

In this assignment, you will choose an underrepresented group that you are not a part of
yourself to ally with.
I. The first step of the assignment will be to identify a minority group to ally with.
Choose a group that you are not a part of yourself (e.g., You may be a cisgender man
who chooses to participate in a community event that centers transgender women)
II. Participate in at least 1 activity with that group this semester (it could be on Zoom or
via face to face ), and document your experiences using videos or photographs – you
must be seen in the photographs or in the screenshots of the video..
III. Make sure to get documented permission from a representative of the group you are
planning to interact with that they consent to being photographed and interviewed for
your academic assignment. I will accept screenshots of emails (these are preferred)
but you can also include screenshots of text messages. Please be respectful and get
this authorization before you attend the event.
IV. Next describe your experience and tell us a bit about the group you are choosing to
ally with along with someone information about the event you attended. Be sure to
also include photographs/videos that depict you with the community completing that
activity or event. You can do this via a power point or a single word document
(please be sure that it is either uploaded as a doc, docx file or pdf otherwise it will not
be readable on speed grader which could result in a zero for the assignment.
V. Finally, on a separate page or concluding slide, write a reflection on: a) how that
experience changed your mind about some preconceived notion about that minority group,
and b) how the experience shaped your broader views of others who are different from you.

Research the objective at the academic level expected of a university student. As an example, researching course outcome one, researching course outcome one, “Rape and violent crime: How are they defined and prosecuted?

1. Pick one of the seven course objectives (learning outcomes) to research
2. Research the objective at the academic level expected of a university student. As an example, researching course outcome one, researching course outcome one, “Rape and violent crime: How are they defined and prosecuted? Discuss the substantive elements defining criminal conduct for specific crimes(Be sure to discuss the different forms of homicide.” I will expect you to define the specific crimes, discuss the specific elements of each crime, discuss how they are prosecuted and how the substantive elements of a crime are determined. In addition, you would be expected to distinguish between the crimes.
3. Analysis and impact. Here you explain the course outcome’s impact on the American criminal justice system and the larger American society. This is also the area where you, as an academic and future professional can share with me, the reader, how you individually view the topic you have researched.
You will do this by writing a three-to-five-page paper (double space, times new roman, 12-point font with one-inch margins; headers and footers do not count towards the length requirement). The paper should be in APA format. It will be named RP (student last name here). The RP is worth 100 points towards your final grade. All RPs that are submitted on time are eligible for editing and resubmission one time. What this means is that if you submit your RP on time, I will grade it, provide comments and return it to you. You will have one calendar weeks from the time I return it to edit it and resubmit it. I will grade the resubmitted RP and adjust your grade accordingly. Late papers are not eligible for editing and resubmission and will be marked down 10 points for each day after the due date. All papers will be submitted through D2L/Brightspace as a Microsoft Word document by the due date on the schedule at the end of this syllabus.

The relationship between inflation and unemployment . Establishing negative and positive linear

Your paper should be between 3-5 pages, Font Size 12 and line spacing 2-1.5 with
normal margins.

Question 1: The relationship between inflation and unemployment . Establishing negative and positive linear
relationships and by reading graphs. All graphs and charts are provided in the file Student Project 1 attatched!
This paper has to be CRITICAL! Making it very detail to graphs and through out the whole essay.

A. Students will analyze trends in inflation and unemployment and means such as core inflations or the natural rate of unemployment using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

B. Students are expected to understand the relationships between unemployment and inflation from general
scatter plot such as negative and positive trends. And in the case of the Phillips Curve recognize that the theoretical relationship has been questioned based on US experience. Provide a critical analysis of the Phillips Curve.

inequality, crime and the criminal justice system

This semester we will be using a learning and research technique called photoanalysis. Photoanalysis is a type of visual learning that involves using photos to express emotion, perspective, and connection. Think of photoanalysis as where science meets art:

The fact exists, but both the fact and what may result from it may be prejudicial to the person. Thus, it becomes necessary, not precisely to deny the fact, but to see it differently, with new eyes.
-Paulo Friere

Presentation slides:

Uses PowerPoint or Google Slides
Includes 8-10 photos
Minimum one slide per photo, each photo must be captioned with a brief description of the meaning the photo is supposed to convey
Title slide
APA reference slide

Review and Choose Topic

This course requires three papers, with the topic of each one centered on a specific marginalization (class, race, gender). In order to choose a topic for your photoanalysis, pick one of the aforementioned marginalizations, that resonated the most with you, and explore its relationship to crime and/or social harm- through pictures. For example, I may be drawn to explore gender and crime in more detail. Here are some helpful questions that may help you choose a topic (example in bold):

What specific aspect of this relationship do I want to explore? Women in prison
Are there additional intersections that I can highlight in my pictures and description? Poverty, Sexuality, Ableism, Immigration Status, Sexual Orientation
What are some literal and metaphorical representations of this topic that would make a compelling photo? A photograph of the bars of a fence could be a metaphorical representation of the incarcerative experience of women.

use a metaphor of the subject to express your idea with pictures.
At least 20 pictures. You will use 8-10 for your presentation.
The pictures should be of persons, events, places, or objects that represent your perceptions of your paper topic.
The photos should elucidate your particular theme of the problem. Try to capture the complexity of your topic in your photographs. Be creative and experimental.

Create Presentation Slides

Create a presentation in PowerPoint or Google Slides:

Order the photos so that they form a coherent narrative/argument about your topic. For example, if you were analyzing disparities in US prison rates, your photos can be used as markers for discussion of literature that addresses key issues such as: the effect of long term incarceration on communities and families, racism in the criminal legal system, racism in the creation of drug laws, etc.
You should present a description of the content or the subject of the photograph
Each photograph should be part of a detailed narrative/analysis about how the image represents issues raised in your research paper.
Draw on specific arguments, theories, etc. to explain the image.
In-text citations required where relevant. Include APA reference slide at the end of your presentation
