Social Class Matters

Chapter 8 Summary: Social Class Matters
Ch 8 Social Class Matters.pdf

Summary
The summary assignment requires you to write a minimum of 250 words. The format for submission of your paper follows:

The course name/number, your name, date of submission.
In writing your summary, begin the summary by using the title, author, and main points as you understand them. You can use your own words to state the main points and other details of the article you have read. The assignment requires you to demonstrate your understanding of the main points presented by the author(s) in the article.
Example: In the article “When Work Disappears,” the author, William Julius Wilson, explains the impact of the advancement of technology and industries relocating to other areas leaving behind a working-class labor pool.

Each article is assigned to a chapter within the textbook. I recommend that your read and complete your summary prior to our review of the chapter (see course syllabus for due date). Additionally, announcements will be made in class by this instructor of any changes in the date. Please note, ALL late assignments will result in a two (2) letter grade penalty. Jane Eyre analysis specific paragraph

Analysis of this paragraph of Jane Eyre:
” I stopped, half suffocated with the thoughts that rose faster than I could receive, comprehend, settle them: thoughts of what might, could, would, and should be, and that ere long. I looked at the blank wall: it seemed a sky thick with ascending stars, and everyone lit me to a purpose or delight. Those who had saved my life, whom, till this hour, I had loved barrenly, I could now benefit. They were under a yoke, I could free them: they were scattered, I could reunite them: the independence, the affluence which was mine, might be theirs too.”

Why did the author write these exact words in this order? Why did they choose these words over other words? Why is this sentence very long, or short? Why did they use this punctuation? How does this passage relate to the larger work? Why does this character or narrator say this exact thing at this exact moment? In addition to this, close reading should have an interpretation, what is your take on this passage? How does it work? Why does it work? Does it work at all? Most importantly, what do you think it is trying to say? For example, is this a commentary about women’s role, a critique of capitalism, a religious metaphor, a turning point in the poem, a moment of foreshadowing, a reference to a historical event, a divergence from / great example of a literary convention of the period/genre, etc. (these are just some of an endless list of ways to interpret a text)

Some general advice:
-Do not summarize
-Keep it specific: make sure every sentence you write is directly about your quote, not about broad themes, other characters/plot points/sections of the text
-This is not an essay, so you should not have an introduction or conclusion, just start with your close reading right away

Latinx challenges

I already have my assignemt writing but i got some feedback from my teacher letting me know this “this draft is all out of order. What will be the introduction, body paragraphs, topic sentences of the body paragraphs? The thesis is also missing. What is the focus of this paper? Have significant improvements been made for this group? Is it enough? This should be much more directly and clearly stated in the thesis.” https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gjGQVwZmOzeMxzvZxeEEO00yhJlzeKKLL3X2wc_cfJo/edit?usp=sharinghttps://docs.google.com/document/d/1gjGQVwZmOzeMxzvZxeEEO00yhJlzeKKLL3X2wc_cfJo/edit?usp=sharinghttps://docs.google.com/document/d/1gjGQVwZmOzeMxzvZxeEEO00yhJlzeKKLL3X2wc_cfJo/edit?usp=sharing

Use Thesis Statement below

*Healthcare benefits in the United States should be provided by the Public Sector and be completely free for its citizens. *<<<<<<< thesis statement above You choose the topic for this essay, Your Toulmin topic can argue anything political, environmental, educational, cultural, social, or health related that interests you. A Toulmin argument must have a clear, strong claim with the intent to persuade readers that your position is valid, logical, and effective. You cannot argue abortion, legalizing marijuana, death penalty, and school uniforms—we’ve heard these arguments many times before, and it is hard to find new angles, assertions, and arguments to share. Remember, you cannot argue something that is not controversial such as: “Texting/Drinking and Driving is Dangerous” or “Fast Food is an Unhealthy Diet Choice.” If the majority of people agree with your thesis, it lacks controversy, so find another topic. Finally, please try to argue something in your lane of interest. In other words, don’t pick a topic because you found it on a regurgitated list of arguments posted online—think about who you are, your passions, and what feels important to share with your audience. At this point, begin by brainstorming your topic and thesis sentence. The following documents in previous Canvas modules (weeks) are helpful references while constructing your Toulmin argument: • Overview of Argument • MLA Overview • Text Weaving • Research • Introductions and Conclusions • Thesis Statement • Active Verb List Your essay requirements are similar to previous essays: Final draft—3 pages of text using MLA format A minimum of three credible sources to support your argument—no quote dumps—all quotes and outside sources must be weaved into your text (see “Text Weaving”). Cite using MLA guidelines and include a Works Cited page

The illicit cocaine market and its link to the theory (Please write a topic sentence)

The aim of this essay is to explain in detail how an illicit market in Australia works. For this assessment you will need to describe the prevalence and characteristics of your chosen illicit market in Australia. This includes both demand, addressing such questions as who uses it, in what quantities and how this has changed over time; as well as supply, including the international and domestic supply chain, the nature and characteristics of local distribution (e.g. what type of market(s) facilitate sales of the illicit good; the nature and extent of organised crime involvement at each stage of the distribution process).

In addition to a detailed description of these aspects of the trade using reputable sources (e.g. government reports, peer-reviewed academic research), you are required to include relevant conceptual and theoretical material that helps explain some aspect of how the illicit market operates. For example, this could include economic explanations for why illicit goods are priced the way they are, or other concepts that explain the nature of supply, such as the balloon effect, supply and demand; globalisation or the iron law of prohibition.

Suitable illicit markets to focus on for this assessment are listed below. Pick one of these to be the focus of your analysis:

Illicit drugs (any from the list below)
