Premium Writing

A brief summary statement (no more than 250 words) presenting the primary argument being advanced in your assigned reading. This statement needs to be succinct, i.e., to the point. Long wandering paragraphs, filled with long wandering sentences, do not accomplish this goal. Your aim here is to inform your reader of what this reading was designed to “say” in five or fewer sentences.

Three to five major bullet points being made by the author(s) of the reading. Analyze each major point, informing your audience of what it means and how it fits into the larger perspective advanced by the reading. Provide examples of policy issues that reflect the point being made, if possible, by connecting each point to your own seminar research topic. (It may help you make your point if you divide the major bullet points into several secondary bullet points).

Assess the reading from within its larger policy analysis context. Where does it fit in the class material covered to date? If the reading is a chapter from Deborah Stone’s book, how do her arguments relate to American political culture or to the policy model presented by James Anderson or to any other seminar material covered thus far. If you are reporting on an outside reading, analyze how it relates to American political cultural norms, Deborah Stone’s distinctions between the market and the polis, Anderson’s policy model, or to any other seminar material covered thus far.

A critique reviewing how the reading fits in with the overall effort of public policy analysis. In other words, what value does this reading have for analysts seeking to understand public policy matters in general. Like the summary statement, this critique should be succinct and it should include several external source references who either address the author’s arguments directly or who at least have alternative perspectives on the topic addressed in the reading.

As part of its due diligence efforts, the M&A team has determined that the following events contributed substantially to the bankruptcy of Island Banking services.
1. Company officers and managers were able to conduct criminal activities using company IT assets without detection.
2. The company did not have a disaster recovery / business continuity plan in place. It could not restart operations due to the loss of servers and workstations (seized by law enforcement agents).
3. Storage media for servers and workstations had not been backed up to an off premises location leaving the company with no way to recover from the law enforcement seizure of storage media as evidence.
The root cause for each event listed above was determined to be: ineffective and/or missing IT security controls.
You have been asked to perform a gap analysis to assist in the identification and selection of IT security controls which could be implemented to remediate the situation (“close the gaps”). The CCISO has requested that you use the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and the NIST Security and Privacy Controls Catalog (NIST SP 800-53) as your source for IT security controls.
Choose 3 to 5 families or categories of controls (“framework functions”) which should be implemented to remediate the above deficiencies (at least one family, e.g. AU Audit and Accountability, or category, e.g. Recovery Planning, for each event). Describe how the selected controls will prevent or deter such events in the future (“close the gaps”).

The purpose of this research paper is two-fold, it is designed for students to closely examine, and address issues related to social justice, advocacy, and its relationship to social work/social service work. Additionally, this research paper will enable students to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of academic writing, research, and appropriate use of the literature.

Completing this assessment will help students achieve the following learning outcomes

: 1. Identify and examine a specific issue related to social justice and advocacy

2. Examine and evaluate your chosen topic through a critical lens

3. Identify and explore implications for social work practice as it relates to the chosen topic

4. Find and use suitable and relevant research and scholarly evidence to support the issues discussed in the research paper.

1. Students are to complete an 8-to-10-page research paper responding to one of the following questions: a). It is suggested that social work has moved away from its radical roots and now prioritizes micro/clinical practice, leaving macro/advocacy as a marginal subfield of social work. In your research paper, explain the reason for this shift and discuss the impact this has (or will have) on the social work field (if at all).

b) As addressed in this course, there are many issues/concepts related to advocacy, social justice, and the role of social workers/social service workers. Select ONE of the topics covered in this course (i.e. indigenous populations, older adults, animal rights) and discuss:

1. The nature of the issue (i.e. contemporary issues related to your chosen topic)

2. How advocacy/macro efforts are important for your chose topic.

3. Implications for social work practice.
c) There is an emerging interest in internationalizing social work and social work education, making room for concepts like global citizenship, but is it relevant?
Discuss the relationship between global citizenship and social work/social service work and explain in what ways (if at all), global citizenship can enhance social work’s mission to promote social justice.
Details of the Research Paper: 1. The research paper should be a minimum of 8 pages and at maximum of 10 pages in length (this does not include title page and reference page). 2. A good range of academic sources (8 to 10 academic sources)
