1. Select a patient case. Scenarios will be picked by the student and approved by clinical faculty. Give a little information about the patient, the diagnosis and the pt. background
2. Identify the patient’s learning need. What is it that the patient needs to know or needs to be able to do? Be sure to be specific.
3. Identify 3 to 4 measurable, behavioral objectives for the teaching plan.
a. Determine what you want the patient to learn.
b. Use measurable verbs such as list, define, explain, state, describe, demonstrate, summarize, etc.
4. Select one content area (aspect) to teach a patient. Use a nursing diagnosis such as Knowledge Deficit related to…as evidenced by…
5. Develop the teaching plan based on the needs of the patient selected. Identifies the teaching intervention and rationale.
6. Use approved resources from the clinical site to supplement the teaching presentation.
7. Use teaching plan to teach a patient with instructor present, during clinical. (If the identified patient has been discharged from the hospital, teaching may be directed to peers in post conference.)
a. Teaching session should be brief and succinct.
b. Teach content in 10 minutes.
c. Topics may include, but are not limited to the following: deep breathing exercises, use of incentive spirometer, diet, medication teaching.
8. Evaluate patient learning.
a. Ask the patient to determine if he/she has learned the material or have patient demonstrate the skills taught.
9. References in APA 7th format.

Explain why you feel it important to memorialize them.
describe your approach to memorializing your subject—what do you plan to make/do. Explain why you think this approach is appropriate for the topic.
In the third paragraph, sketch out your plan to complete this project successfully. When are you going to make time to work on it? When are you going to do your research? List at least three sources appropriate for a college level class that you will use to research your subject. No Wikipedia or Encyclopedia Britannica. Remember you can go to Library for help with the research.
