I am including 4 different versions of the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood that are all written specifically for children.
1. Tiger Aunt, an ancient fairy tale from Taiwan, that can be found in many Asian cultures, including China and Japan.
2. Little Red Riding Hood, written by Charles Perrault (France) in 1697. The French title of this famous tale is “Le Petit Chaperon Rouge.”
3. Little Red Cap written by the Grimm Brothers (Germany) in1857. The German title of this tale is “Rotkäppchen”
4. The True History of Little Golden-Hood written by Charles Marelles and was published in the Andrew Lang collection: The Red Fairy Book in 1895.

Assignment
First, read the article assignment for this week from Dr Maria Tatar, and then read the 4 versions of Little Red Riding Hood.
Next, Compare and contrast these stories. Do you believe all four are cautionary tales for children? What is the moral of each?
If you remember this story from your own childhood, do you remember which version you heard (or another version?). Do you remember your own reactions to the story?
Why do you think this story has lasted so long? What plot elements are here that have interested people for over 2,000 years?
Finally, After reading all this, consider how YOU would define Little Red Riding Hood, her mother, grandmother, and the wolf. What kind of image do you see in your mind when you think of these characters? Could you create a different version or add a different twist to the story??
Length? I think a minimum of 300 words is appropriate.
