CFO Report
Scenario
You are the CFO of a hospital or healthcare organization assigned by the instructor. You are tasked with giving a comprehensive report to the local community.
NOTE: You will have also created a 6-8 minutes slide presentation to be recorded for the local cable media outlet. This is a separate assignment.
Objective
Demonstrate a basic understanding and application of health care financial statements and ratios.
Parts of the report
Introduction
Histories of 2 leaders of the organization (ex. CEO, CFO, Board Chair, etc.) (One paragraph for each is sufficient.)

A conclusion that provides your outlook for the next 5-10 years for your hospital or health care organization
Provide a substantial case study of your hospital’s financial and operational situation.
This will include, but not be limited to: (Note: This section should only be 2-3 pages long.)
Hospital(s) brief history (1 page)
Analysis of the background of two leaders for your hospital(s)
Description of its local and regional economic factors
Brief review of demographics for its market area
Provide a CFO-level analysis of your hospital’s financial recent results, challenges and its opportunities for the next 2-4 years.
This will include, but not be limited to:
Operations
Calculation and analysis of 11 financial ratios provided. (Instructor will provide list of ratios)
Baseline financials from 5-10 years ago. (Use search for ‘Form 990’.)
Clinical labor challenges
Public policy challenges
Report specifications
The report must not exceed 10 double-spaced pages.
No MLA, APA or other styles are required. If you choose to use citation(s), be sure to give proper credit.
A rubric is available in the assignment to guide your report preparation.
NOTE:
The CFO report and presentation are two different assignments. However, they are both on the same, assigned hospital or health care system. Your assignment will come from the instructor in Canvas’ Announcements.
Financial statements can be 40-80 pages long. However, for this project your focus will be on the balance sheet, statement of operations(activities) and cash flow statement. Feel free to use the Notes section, but there is no expectation for you to use Notes.
