Wenjack Assignment
Based on Ian Adams’ Maclean’s story, “The Lonely Death of Charlie Wenjack”, and the two other secondary source texts you’ve read, explain In a series of paragraphs (informal essay of 600-900 words), how Chanie’s story has come to be an important part of our history as a country. In particular, explain which elements most seem to speak to people, and why.
You should quote from Adams’ article, from one of the other articles and from the novel.
Select quotations which require some interpretation and explanation — this will lead to a more compelling analysis.
With each line you quote, consider:
Why is it important?
What does it illustrate, imply, etc.?
Make sure you integrate your quotations (try out both methods) and reference your work properly. Set up your response in correct MLA style, including a Works Cited page for the sources from which you quote.
Your response will be marked equally for style and content, this is your first Summative Assessment. Your essay needs to be between 600-900 words. You can resubmit if you hand it in by the due date. The rubric on the following page will be used to mark the informal essay. Your readers’ notes will be marked as formative work.
