“Race you up to the top…” My brother, Adam, and I were always competitive with each other. Adam did not even have time to finish his sentence before I started to kick off my shoes and run. The warm, sun-baked sand gave a soothing sensation rubbing between my toes with each step farther up the hill. Running in sand is not like running on a field, especially up a hill. Gravity is working against you so slowly each step becomes harder and harder.

Adam decided to rip me back while launching himself forward. The unevenness of the ground and rush of moventum had me lose balance and plunge to my knees. I whipped my head back to check and make sure mom saw what just happened. Unfortunately, mom and dad were still at the bottom of the hill not paying attention to us. My clammy hands made the sand cake to my palms.
