In this assignment you will be working on one of the following:
Christian creeds and/or beliefs;
Christian worship and/or ritual;
Christian authority and/or community.
This assignment is comparative and involves comparing the information on a specific Roman Catholic church’s website with the website of a specific Protestant or Non-Conformist church. One of the churches should be in Hamilton and one should be outside of Canada.
You are looking at and evaluating the similarities and differences between the two. One could assume that similarities will have to do with what is specifically Christian about the communities/churches and the differences to do with nuances of interpretation of specific teachings. In reality, things are probably a bit more complicated so be prepared to undertake a “deep dive” into the teachings and truth-claims of each.
You can present your findings as a formal academic paper, as a podcast (with written transcript), as a slide presentation video or as a webpage.
Focus only on the way the churches are presented on their websites; DO NOT contact any members of the churches for interviews.
Find churches that interest you. If you are from a Christian background you might want to focus on churches that are very different from your own.
Be sure to develop a set of questions before undertaking your research. “How” and “Why” questions usually yield the most interesting results. E.g:
How are Christian teachings reflected in the mission statement of these churches?
How can we account for differences?
Why do these churches have websites?

Here are more specific format and submission instructions:
1) Academic paper. 4 – 8 pages, double-spaced. No cover page. Submit in the usual way.
2) Podcast. Maximum ten minutes. Upload to PebblePad (ePortfolio) and provide the link when you submit. You should also submit the written transcript.
3) Slide video presentation. Maximum ten minutes. Upload to PebblePad (ePortfolio) and provide the link when you submit. You should also submit the written transcript.
4) Webpage(s). 1500 words max. Make sure all images are public domain or produced by you. Prepare on PebblePad (ePortfolio) and provide a link to Avenue.
