Berne Convention
Definition of Berne Convention: The Berne Convention provides minimum protection of property rights that are independent of the nation in which the work originated.
The article I decided to summarize is “The Circulation of Iranian Texts around the World: The appearance of the Transnational Iranian Publishing Industry?” In this article it talks about a publishing house called Naakojaa, which was founded by Tinouche Nazmjou in 2012. Iran has extreme censorship on all the work done in Iran. Naakojaa publishes work by writers in Iran that could not publish work in Iran due to the censorship and receives about a hundred manuscripts a month. They publish a few a month from that hundred and have had multiple successes. This publishing company does respect the Universal Copyright Convention but not the Berne Convention because Iran is not a signatory to it. Naakojaa focuses on digital distribution to help reach Iranians across the world and in Iran. On down in the article, it talks about another publishing company Candle & Fog. Just like Naakojaa they do not use the Berne Convention due to the same reasons.
Before reading this article I never thought of the countries that are censored in everything they post or can read everything we are able to read at our fingertips. Naakojaa made is possible for people in Iran and people across the world to be able to read books. These publishing companies use a different convention known as the Universal Copyright Convention. This convention is an alternative to the Berne Convention but is used to help reach more people in countries that wouldn’t be able to read certain things otherwise. This convention is more flexible and easier to comply with.

The circulation of Iranian Texts around the World: The Appearance of the Transnational Iranian Publishing Industry article is the one I decided to discuss. This article helped me understand that certain countries do have censorship and they must use a different convention that is more flexible and easier to access, Universal Copyright Convention.
Legalization of Artists’ Resale Right mainly talks about the process of which an artist goes through to resale their art and the copyright on their work.

Market Economy
Definition:
A market economy is defined as “an economic system where the production and distribution of goods and services take place through the mechanism of free markets (Satterlee, 2018).
Summary:
In the Financial Times article titled: Why the US economy isn’t as competitive or free as you think, Martin Wolf reviews businesses and how they work in America, which has been known to have the world’s biggest economy. Competition has come to a slow with major companies in each category taking over. Europe has just about the same level of competition as America and its companies have been similar and not evolving much over the years. The lack of competition in the US has hurt the consumers, especially the middle class. Higher prices, lower investment, and not much productivity growth lead to hurt in the US working and consuming economy. Sadly, all of this could be traced back to political reasons, especially the “heavy lobbying and campaign contributions” (Wolf, 2019). The major companies taking over in each category have led to doubled GDPs, less domestic competition, and a higher rate of investments and post-tax profits. These companies use China for manufacturing needs and that leads to higher profits in companies because of cheaper production costs.
Discussion:
This article relates back to the key term because it explains how a free-market economy is needed for a country and its citizens to grow, flourish, and thrive. All these pieces fit together to find the explanation for what is happening to our economy in the US. The article shows examples of what is needed within a market economy and how that type of economy can change when parts shift within it.
