Class and Inequality

Watch the following videos, all but last of which were first aired in early 2019. The first is from Fox News. It presents their commentators’ views on the tax plan proposed in conjunction with the “Green New Deal” by Rep. Ocasio-Cortez. The second, produced by a group known as “Now This,” seeks to explain the proposed plan from an (apparent) “unbiased” perspective. Both videos are biased, but in different directions. The third video talks generally about some of the consequences of class and inequality of income and wealth. The final video, again from Fox, talks about some of AOC’s thoughts from August 2020 about taxation within the context of a societal response to COVID-19.

For this assignment, summarize AOC’s tax plan as you understand it. What assumptions are the plan built on? How does the plan address (or fail to address) income and wealth inequality in the United States? In responding, make sure that you refer to appropriate terms and sections of Chapter 7 of the textbook. (You will lose points if you do NOT refer to topics for Chapter 7.)
(There is a great deal of information on the internet about the plan, and you may, if you choose, use other information in addition to the videos. However, you need to provide citations for work you draw on extensively, and certainly for everything you quote.)
