Only do the first one
1. Explain the disagreement between Clifford and James on beliefs and evidence.
Take a stand
and explain which view you think is more plausible, whether Clifford or James.
Your paper should include:
• An introduction (roughly 100 words) where you concisely explain the
reader what you will be doing in the paper.
• IMPORTANT: Avoid generic introductions and go straight to the point. In
the introduction you must clearly state your main claim and argument about
who you agree with (whether it’s Clifford or James).
• An exposition (roughly 300 words) where you explain Clifford and James’s
view.
• IMPORTANT: do not introduce any personal evaluation in the exposition, simply recap the authors’ views.
1. Restate whether which view you think is more plausible and briefly
restate why.
2. Develop your argument. That is, explain in more detail your take on
the issue.
If you think that an author’s view is implausible, for example, you can present
counterexamples to support your claims, or point out flaws in the author’s
reasoning, or question assumptions the author employs.
If you agree, then you must agree in an interesting way. That is, you should avoid
regurgitating the author’s view, but you should go beyond what the author is saying
by providing your own original contribution to the issue.
