This is what I wrote but the professor says I didn’t answer the question:
One advantage of integrating treatment plans for co-occurring disorders would be focusing on therapy programs such as the 12-step which can help counselors facilitate therapy groups ranging from individuals to group drug counseling (Narayana and Naaz. 2018). It can reach a large group of clients vs a small group at a time. Another advantage of integrating treatments is how it recognizes the amount of flexibility between the disorders (Narayana and Naaz. 2018). The life which is beneficial to helping them change their maladaptive behaviors (Narayana and Naaz, 2018).
A barrier to implementing an integrated approach is setting limitations for treating co-occurring disorders and challenging the diagnosis for the clients that would have a difficult time being placed under a certain category. The ways in which this issue can be addressed is by gaining knowledge of the clients presenting symptoms. It would also be a great foundation for the counselors in this aspect to reach out to members of the clients family and also their close friends so that the counselor can gain an understanding from the perspective of people that are close to the client in order to help properly diagnose the client. That is why it is important for the counselor to properly assess the client to better aid them in their issues, so that the treatment for the client can be narrowed down to the best related disorder.
