Note: You will be asked to submit a Community Project Presentation in Week 14 of the semester, but it is never too early to refresh your presentation design skills.
(THE PROJECT WILL HAVE 3 MORE PARTS TO IT SO IF YOU WILL BE DOING THIS, I WILL NEED TO HAVE THE SAME WRITTER FOR TTHIS PROJECT)*
Please visit the Writing Center if you need assistance. If submitting your presentation for review, please do so early in the semester so that there is time for feedback and revisions.
The goal of the Community Project is to have an opportunity to experience the role of the Community Health Nurse.
The project involves three separate steps. We will provide worksheets that will ensure you are identifying the proper criteria to be successful:
A thorough community assessment. You will have an opportunity to complete a windshield and researched assessment on your community. During the assessment you will provide a clear picture of the community you chose. This will include:
Community Information
Community Demographics
Health Data
Social Data
A community teaching proposal focused on prevention. The research completed in the community assessment will identify prevalent chronic, infectious and priority community concerns. You will create a one stop – one hour teaching session for the community. This is only a proposal and not “hands on.”
The last step is a disaster assessment of your chosen community. An opportunity to assess the readiness and resources that are available in case there is a disaster.
To prepare and complete this teaching topic, you must complete 22.5 hours of practical experience for this course. This activity will help you to complete those hours. Reach out to a community health nurse and ask if you could meet to discuss your community assessment and identified health risk. Preparation for and meetings associated with this task count toward your practical hours. You will complete the Practicum Time Sheet for every task. This form will be turned in week 15 to complete the course.
Project forms are initially located in week 7.
Final Presentation
Develop a PowerPoint presentation with a minimum of 20 slides (not including the title slide or reference slides).
Slides
